This is the first concentration camp I visit. So quiet, so sad. 30,000 prisoners died here between 1938-1945. Lot to see and read in this camp.

It was snowing on our arrival, but we saw the Flossenburg concentration camp anyway. The museum was closed due to the pandemic. I felt a tremendous amount of sadness and negative energy. Wouldn’t surprise me if the area was haunted.

This experience changed my life. I had to prepare myself mentally for this...it was not an easy day and nothing can prepare you for the emotions you will feel walking these grounds. That being said, I truly feel that if you travel to Germany, take time out of your plans and come to one of these camps.
I am deeply touched by the honor and respect that Germany has shown for the millions that perished at the hands of the Nazis. My visit to Flossenburg was a day I will never forget. We had a German speaking tour guide...I had a German friend with me who did his best to translate. I never asked if she spoke English; however I was the only person in the tour group that spoke little to no German so out of respect for the others, I let my translator assist me. The written plaques and signage were in written in German and English, which I was grateful for.
The moment that really touched my German friend was when he discovered that Dietrich Bonhoeffer, a prominent Lutheran Pastor and theologian, was murdered here on April 9, 1945.
As difficult as it is, I strongly encourage anyone to visit this place, to not only take in the essence of the experience here, but to honor and respect the dead, to stand where they stood, walk the earth they walked, cry where they cried. It is powerful and all should see it; step out of our blessed lives and feel this.
A side note, there are residence built on the hillside above the camp, overlooking the camp. I was very upset by the sight of this until the tour guide explained that after the US liberated this camp, the some1500 survivors had nowhere to go so remained living in the barracks at the camp for some time. It is their understanding that some of these survivors requested land on that hillside to start to build homes as they had nothing left and nowhere to go. If this is true, then these homes are survivor homes.

Also total schlecht und sinnlos sprit verfahren.

I have a few artifacts my Father brought back from the camp. He was in the USA 405th Div. approximately late April 1945-Nov.-Dec 1946 poste at camp. 1 ring, carved wooden baton and photos. All taken from former SS prisoners. Would camp curator like these donated?

Yes, I am convinced that they would accept this with all the honour. The camps Museum is really impressing and there are some artifacts from prisoners showed. So, I would say send them, bring them because Flossenburg has to be remembered. Bye

In September 2017 I will be in Bamberg, Germany and want the best way to do a 1 day trip to Flossenburg CC and return to Bamberg. Train, Bus, both or hire a taxi. Thank you !!

A taxi would be expensive as it's about 143km. Do you have an international license to rent a car? If you download the DB Navigator app, it will tell you the train schedule. You can google Bamberg to Flossenburg and it will tell you the public transportation available. although it would be a long trip. Best bet is to rent a car, if you can. Flossenburg is a small city so public transportation might be limited getting to and from.

Are the concentration camp grounds and museum located in the same place?
How long should you allow for both the grounds and museum?
Is the tour recommended?
How is this compared to Dachua which we visited before?

The museum is located inside the concentration camp. I would plan for at least half a day to view everything. We did not take the tour, everything is well documented and available in English. We also visited Dachau, which is a lot larger than Flossenburg and has many more visitors. We felt that our experience in Flossenburg was more personal due to the act that there were not so many people there when we were. The information sinks in and you have a chance to really contemplate what had happened here.

Got the Regional Train 3013 platform 19 from Nuremberg central at 9.45 am to Weiden. Got the 6272 Bus outside train station to Flossenburg concentration Camp which is the last stop, and arrived there at approx at 12 .00 pm
We got the 15.06 Bus back to Weiden and got the Train from Platform 4 back to Nuremberg.
The Bayern ticket covers bus and train tickets which cost €28 for two people from ticket machine using only local transport thats for one to five people which is good value.
