Come on, people, all those equator “experiments” they perform are totally fake. Google it. The cache should be named "Fake Science at the Fake Equator".
Consider this: since the actual equator is outside the property in the middle of the road, how could the "experiments" work at the wrong location?
It is nothing but a tourist trap.

This is where the true equator lies, determined by GPS. It was far less crowded than Ciudad Mitad Del Mundo, which is 250m south of the actual equator. A guided tour was included with the price of admission and we got to participate in some fun science experiments involving the equator. Definitely preferred this over the flashier Mitad Del Mundo.

The “sell” of this Museum is that it is where the actual equator is, while the large and more famous nearby monument is a few hundred meters off. That makes it worth visiting itself. The Museum has a guided tour that is focused half on the Equator and half on indigenous cultures, complete with replica huts and other structures. The tour takes about an hour. It’s More interesting and in depth than what is at the Monument, which is mostly a photo opp with shopping and dining.

First off if visiting here after mitad del mundo área, just walk along the north exit and see a sign for the museum don’t walk along the road as it’s busy and more dangerous to get to the front of the museum. This back dirt path leads to the rear entrance and a worker will guide you to the ticket booth. It’s a good value and fun hour or so. But the tour is way more than just showing you the experiments on the equator. Which is absolutely crazy that only a few steps in each direction can change forces on small objects, worth learning more about the science. Before the area you see all the pictures of they do a history, it was unexpected kind of interesting but I think. They could cut this down to 30 minutes more just about the equator. You’ll see Amazon wildlife examples, the making of a shrunken head (and a real one) and how the indigenous people were wild or not wild based on appearance. It was neat they had indigenous amazonians actually build a hut and blowgun. So some things that were good but I had no clue we had to sit through with our guide. You also sample cocoa seeds and see some ground to get the smell, that part was just to sell chocolate bars and in my opinion should be left out for sure. That’s the only reason for 4 stars. Must visit when there just for the true 0’0’0’ latitude. Crazy feeling

This place is a sort of Ecuador equator theme park. There are some nice dioramas on different cultural elements within the country followed by some activities around the equator line on the ground. It is great for photos and a little fun.
However the issue is that you are taken by a guide - who basically takes you for a ride. It is a real shame that the science of the earth / equator is polluted by their pseudoscience lies.
Firstly after they built this place they discovered the equator is actually a short distance away- but does that really matter? Well it would if you believed all the nonsense in their activities that you don't really have any choice in. The corollis effect that determines which way water spins when going down a plug-hole is a real thing, however it doesn't switch on and off as you step either side of the equator, it is very weak near the equator, and you can make it spin either way or just go straight down by the shape of the bowl and how it is put in the bowl (the momentum of the water already moving). The egg balancing - being on equator has zero impact on this - pure nonsense.
What is true is that the earth is thicker here than at the poles, the planet is slightly eliptical, so you are closer to the stars at sea level than you would be elsewhere. This does affect gravity and as such you will weigh less here than at the poles, the difference is less than 1% though - so maybe a few hundred grams.
it is a real shame and rather symptomatic of our current world where exciting lies are preferred to rather more mundane truth.
This place is good for some photos in a self indulgent tacky sort of way, and seeing the Mital del mundo monument (you'll drive past it if coming from Quito) is interesting from an Ecuador heritage perspective - just don't be sucked in by the guides - or better yet call them out publically as you go for their complete lies.

How do I get there using public transportation? How long does it take to get there? Does a bus run on Sundays? How long should I plan to spend at the museum? I have one full day in Quito. There is so much to see and my list is already jam packed with beautiful "must sees". Thanks. BJ

Hiring a guide is a great idea if you have only one day in Quito. Our guide took us to the Centro Historico to see the beautiful churches and colonial architecture, as well as the Intinan Museum. The museum will take 1-2 hours, depending how long you linger in the exhibits. I don't know about public transit to that area of Quito. You should also consider a visit to the Teleferico while in Quito for an impressive view of the city with towering volcanoes in the background.

Hi! Can anyone recommend a tour company to use? We have seen it advertised on the hop on-hop off bus tour. Would you quote the price for the tour, as well.
Thanks!

There's definitely a post box , my friend sent her postcards there but she had already out the stamps on them in Quito.
