Flying PiratesGuided Tours or On Your Own RentalsATV’s / Kayaks ATV’sThe ride begins in the heart of Bocas town right next to the water working your way through town and driving alongside beautiful beaches. Our first recommended stop is PAKI POINT ART + SURF + FOOD. Just a short ride from town – this is a popular surf spot where you can relax on the beachside deck and watch the surfers in action or rent a board and do some surfing yourself. When you’re ready to continue, you’ll head down the surfside road, through the first of several water crossings you will encounter and venture towards the less inhabited part of the island. The dirt road is one fairly well traveled by cars (mostly taxi’s) until you reach PLAYA BLUFF RESTAURANT & LODGE – another great place to stop. They offer a full menu using the freshest local ingredients and seafood Bocas del Toro has to offer. They also have a wide variety of exotic smoothies and cocktails to cool you down on a hot tropical day. The beautiful setting of the restaurant combined with the swimming pool and lounge deck makes it the perfect place to relax and enjoy. Jungle tours can also be started here. The walk takes you through truly pure rainforest with amazingly huge trees and the chance to see White faced monkeys, Howlers, Sloths, a variety of birds, frogs, and more. Boots can be provided as it can get a bit muddy after the rain. It is a bit of a hike with some climbing to a waterfall and takes an average of 2.5 hours depending on the interest and condition of the guests. As you go on from here, the road becomes less of a road and more of a trail where you will find yourself in a wooded tropical forest. Soon the scenery will change to that of wide open grasslands. To your left is an old overgrown runway and some remnants of a long abandoned farm and to your right is FLATROCK BEACH. As you proceed further on, these old Indian trails will take you through tunnels of trees alongside beautiful beaches and lagoons to snorkel in. We highly suggest a stop at LA PISCINA where you will find your own private ocean pool to swim in the calm waters or just relax on the waters edge. After your break you will start to make your way over log bridges perched above swamplands, through light jungle, into dark jungle, next to cliffs on one side and ocean on the other. You may even catch a glimpse of monkeys, sloths and eagles along the way. On the ground you may see large trails of leaf-cutter ants and the occasional snake. If you’re ready for another stop, there are some caves that you can venture into, one of which is home to a large boa. If you prefer to keep going, you can continue towards the trails end which will bring you to a small house perched upon the hill above a beautiful beach. If the waters are calm you can take a short swim around the island just off the coast and in the distance is a beautiful view of Bird Island. This is a nice place to relax before making the journey back. The Indian family that lives here has been helpful in transforming the trail you just traveled from merely a walking path to what it is today. They have also been kind enough to allow you, as our guest, to cross over their land. You will be one of few tourists to ever see this part of Isla Colon and for that we suggest an offering of $1 per person to show your appreciation. KayaksA great way to paddle between the islands and explore the many landscapes offered by the archipelago of Bocas del Toro. White sand beaches, mangrove forests and a multitude of small offshore islands to name just a few. Take along some of our snorkeling gear and experience the beauty of the surrounding coral reefs and the wide array of underwater wildlife.Single and Tandem kayaks available for rent in Bocas Town and at Gran Kahuna Beach Hostel on Isla Carenero.
