Considering the price 300 US dollars for 3 days (in fact 2 and half) it is much overpriced.
1. cars were ok,
2. guide speaks poor English,
3. so called guesthous in Abala is extremly basic, 1-2 dollars worth a night - no water running (bucket - see pic), no light until you demanded switching on generator,
4. lunches were a joke!, cost of them maybe 20 US cents - rice or noodles with teaspoon of vegetables (see pick).
5. 1,5 h waiting to go thru Afar village to Erta Ale - They organize the trip every day, so shall have agreement with local about money, not made us wait and waste our time - climbing to crater should be at dusk, not during total darkness.

Try other companies, I DEFINITLY don't reccomend ETT.

Interesting 3 days with a group of young energetic travelers. I saw mixed comments but decided to give it a go for my top dream place of danakil depression ETT seems to be the largest agent in this area. Overall trip was ok, decent jeep for 4 people. Food was ok. Overnight camping was an experience sleeping under the stars. Staff and driver took care of us well. This is one of my best place have visited so far very exotic to see such geological formations in real

We had a great trip The Danakil Depression. The agent at the ETT office arranged the trip and the execution was flawless. A perfect itinerary and he had staged great guides along the way. The entire experience was amazing

****NOT SAFE FOR SOLO FEMALE TRAVELERS--- I took some private transfers with ETT and the driver, while a very good driver, kept touching my leg and making me feel uncomfortable. When I reported this Akil, the manager of ETT in Mekelle, he laughed and said I was lying. The same happened with Yihune, the manager of the Lalibela branch. Both men, representatives of ETT, laughed and said I was making things up. That's just the tip of the iceberg.****

Completely unprofessional people. Not only did the car we were put in was unsafe (the clutch didn't work) the whole thing was incredibly badly arranged. I'd like to be punctual and clear about my complaints, so I am going to number them so its easier to read and follow.

0. The first and foremost point I need to make is that the company does not care about sexual harassment reports. The driver who took me from Gondar to Axum to Mekelle kept grabbing my leg and squeezing it. I told him 2 times to stop, and he didn't care. He kept doing it and making me feel super uncomfortable. He was also grabbing my arm and back. When I reported this to the Mekelle branch, Akil, the manager, laughed at me and said I was lying and delusional. Same thing happened in Lalibela with Yihune. In this day and age, after everything women have fought for, there are still companies like this who dismiss harrasment like nothing. Not only that, but when reported, they laugh and call the affected party a liar. This is not an empathetic company that cares about women or their safety, and this has been made clear by the way the management in Mekelle and Lalibela have handled the issue.

1. ETT sold me 2 nights 3 days in the Danakil Depression knowing fully well that I did not want to see the volcano. I booked in Bahir Dar, I was told the only way to see Dallol and the salt lakes was to book 2 nights and 3 days, because Dallol was at the end and the volcano always at the beginning. If I were to book only one night, then I would miss out on the camel caravan, the salt lakes and salt flats. So I booked what was suggested: 2 nights and 3 days. Fast forward to the tour---- it turns out first we would see Dallol and at the very end, the volcano. Furthermore, when we had already started the tour, they said there would be no camel caravan or salt workers since it was a Sunday. I felt scammed. Not only did ETT lie to me by saying the only way to see Dallol was, NECESSARELY to book 2 nights and 3 days, they in consequence forced me to book one more night for something I made clear since the beginning I did not want. I came back after 1 night and 2 days, like I would've wanted, because the volcano was the last thing to see. I came back to the Mekelle office to ask for a refund, because they essentially tricked me into buying something I did not want and they lied to me. This is not the only reason I asked for a refund of the trip. It is worth noting that I only asked for HALF THE MONEY BACK of what I paid. I wanted fairness, not to be abusive and obtuse. The other reasons why I asked for a refund are:

2. When I booked the tour, it was said to me that all my food and water would be included, and this was not true. In the first place we stopped for lunch, they charged me for my food. At the place, they asked me what I wanted to eat and I said I wanted traditional food. In the end, they charged me for the traditional food and they never, ever said it was extra. When you book a tour that says all your food and water is included, and you get to a lunch stop where they ask what you want to eat, you choose what you want to eat without thinking that you're going to have to pay extra, because the contract says ALL YOUR FOOD IS INCLUDED. They also charged the group for water, when it was already included.

3. The guides were incredibly rude, didn't give any information and their demeanor was as if they were doing us a favor and they didn't want to be there. The promised me a torch light and that didn't happen, either. Jonas, out guide, failed to tell us what was happening and every time we asked a question it seemed like he was tired and sick of us. He didn't share any information. The guides' communication skills were also terrible. I work in the tourism business, I run tours in my home country and this is the worst experience I have had traveling. If I had guides like the ETT ones, I would be ashamed. Also, Jonas said he did not represent ETT and that he didn't work for the company.

5. ETT promised a safe car. The car we were put in was incredibly unsafe. The windows didn't work and the clutch was failing. At some point, the poor driver had to maneuver for 20 minutes in neutral because the clutch wouldn't work. I was sitting in the front, so I noticed. When I pointed it out to the guide, he laughed and said I was exaggerating. We could've had an accident, but hey, I'm the crazy faranji who exaggerates (the guide said this)

6. When I found out about the volcano at the end, I asked to come back to Mekelle because I never had wanted to do the volcano, like I've said before in my first point. I went to the ETT office in Mekelle and after waiting 2 hours for the manager to arrive, I and was met by Akil, the person in charge of the branch. He was incredibly rude and unhelpful, yelling at me and not wanting to listen to what I had to say. I said that the guide (Jonas) had mentioned that he had forgotten the torch light and Akil basically called me a liar. I asked for a refund of HALF of the tour. I tried to be understanding and explain myself slowly. I NEVER wanted to be abusive and I NEVER wanted to create a bad reputation for the company, i told him this and after a few calls to Gasha, the manager of Bahir dar and Yihune, the manager of Lalibela, he calmed down. This all took about 3 hours. In the end, they ALL decided that I would get the refund in Lalibela, since the day I came back to Mekelle from Dallol, was a Sunday and the next day would be a holiday, the commemoration of the Victory of Adwa. Akil, after speaking with Yihune, wrote me a letter explaining what had happened and indicating to give me the refund of 150.00 USD or 4,800 birr. He signed it and wrote down both Yihune's and his own phone number. So off I went to Lalibela.

7. When I arrived in Lalibela, Yihune, the manager, refused to take my call and when I spoke with him, he hung up. He refused to give me a refund saying he needed to speak to Danile and Gasha, the people in Bahir Dar, where I originally booked. Akil, the manager from Mekelle, had already spoken to Danile and Gasha and they all agreed to give me a refund, this is why Akil wrote the instructions to Yihune in Lalibela and signed it. Apparently, when Yihune called Akil to ask who I had paid, Akil said he didn't know, when I was PRESENT when he spoke to Danile and Gasha and they told him I had paid the Bahir Dar branch.

8. ETT has completely ruined my stay in both Mekelle in Lalibela, making me waste time sitting around waiting for a refund that had already been agreed upon, and playing he-said/she-said. My first full day in Lalibela I had to wait in the office for more than 6 hours because Yihune refused to speak to me in person. At this very moment, after 7 hours of waiting, my refund still hasn't come. My stay in Lalibela is completely ruined.

DO NOT BOOK WITH ETT.
