- marien6110 bidragBryllupsreiseVår første destinasjon på reisen var Sapporo. Guiden vår, Asuka, ga oss en god oversikt over byen. Skrevet 10. oktober 2023
Veldig koselig dame <3Skrevet 10. oktober 2023

We had excellent experience on this tour and our guide Izumi. We visited three areas and five destination total. In Monzen-nakacho area we visited Tomioka Hachiman Shrine and Fukagawa Fudou-dō temple. In Nezu area we visited Nezu Shrine and Yanaka Ginza. In Komagome area we visited beautiful Rikugien Gardens. We wouldn't have known to have gone to those places without the your and our fantastic guide. This itinerary was quite enough for us as we were getting tired by the end of the 5th spot, so 5 destinations over 6 hours is quite enough. Izumi is knowledgeable about all aspects of the tour and all the areas visited. Because we are getting another tour that involves Tsukiji market, we asked Izumi to modify itinerary to accommodate that and he was happy to do that. I highly recommend this tour and Izumi as a guide.

Thank you for joining the tour and thank you very much for your nice review on the tour. It's really my great pleasure to know that you enjoyed the off the beaten path tour on that day. Nezu and Yanaka are lovey small calm towns not yet very much known to the people from overseas. Fukagawa and Tomioka Hachiman are also still not very much widely aware of for even the local people in Tokyo. I hope those are the good memory for you. See you again. Izumi

Our tour operator Fumiko was wonderful!! She was so informative and spent extra time telling us the history of each tour. She was also very watchful to ensure our group of 8 was always together (as we tended to sometimes separate and wander). Thank you Fumiko for your amazing hospitality and a making our first day in Japan a memorable one!

We had a great day with Steve!
He took us to see the beautiful oasis in the city, Shinjuku Gyoen Garden and the 3D cat billboard in Shinjuku, which I could have watched all day.
We had the most delicious tempura lunch and learned about sake.
We went to the Yaneka district and found charming shops.
We saw many more places with Steve and appreciated his insider knowledge!

Very satisfied with the tour. It has been very intense and interesting. Izumi is a spectacular guide prepares the route carefully capturing all our attention. He has also been very kind to help me with the language because I speak very little English but Izumi overcame this obstacle with patience (and a translator). In short very satisfactory activity.

Thank you very much for your wonderful comment. I'm very much pleased to hear that the tour was enjoyable. The spots I've selected on the tour are not popular places as the tour this time is "off the beaten path" tour. It's my pleasure if you could take nice photos of the downtown Tokyo including rustic temples and shrines during the tour. I hope to see you once again in the other seasons. Have a nice trip. Thank you. Izumi

Fumiko did a very good job giving us the tour. She did her best to tweak around our scheduled places to see because of the rain. Inspite of it, we were very satisfied. Glenn & Naida

Noripy was our guide and was absolutely fantastic. We asked a million questions and Noripy happily answered them comprehensively. Whether it be of the location she'd taken us to, historical to current politics, traditions, local foods and the all important; how to use Tokyo rail system!!
We definitely went to places we would not have discovered ourselves or learnt as mich as we did in the time we had in Tokyo.
Thank you Noripy!!!

On a warm November morning, I set out for a day trip in Tokyo that I knew would be special. The sun was shining in the clear autumn sky, and I was filled with excitement as I waited in the lobby of The Celestine Hotel Tokyo Shiba. My guide, Koji Shinjo-san, arrived on time. Koji’s calm and approachable character instantly put me at ease, and as we made our way to the subway station, I knew I was in good hands.
Our first stop was the Yanesen neighborhood, which includes the districts of Yanaka, Nezu, and Sendagi—an area filled with charm and history. The first highlight of the tour was Nezu Shrine. I would call Nezu shrine as Tokyo’s most beautiful shrine. Located in a quiet area, the red torii gates winding through the grounds created a mesmerizing path as sunlight filtered through the trees. The shrine, with its vibrant structures and ancient atmosphere, offered tranquility in the heart of the city. Koji shared the fascinating history of Nezu Shrine, and I could feel the connection to its past through the air.
From Nezu, we continued onto Snake Street, a narrow, winding road in Nezu/Sendagi that was once the Aizen stream. It felt like a hidden gem, making its serpentine through a quiet residential neighborhood that seemed worlds away from the hectic metropolis. The charming street was full of plant pots, adding a delicate touch of life to the already picturesque scene. As we walked, Koji explained to me the street system in Japan based on block coordinates rather than on street names and pointed out small stone animals and decorations tucked between plants. The street’s curves led us deeper into the nostalgic atmosphere of old Tokyo, and before long, we reached Yanaka Ginza.
Yanaka Ginza felt like stepping back in time. Despite the increasing number of tourists, it still held onto its local roots. I was struck by how the mid-20th-century Showa period seemed to come alive here, with shopkeepers selling croquettes, traditional crafts, and souvenirs. Koji encouraged me to try the famous croquettes, and as we stood on a side eating local delicatessen food, I was delighted to discover that most of the customers were locals picking up snacks for their evening meals. It was this blending of old and new, of tourists and residents, that made Yanaka Ginza so unique. We climbed the Yūyake Dandan steps, catching a glimpse of the street below as the sun began its gentle descent.
Next, we hopped on the subway again and headed to Fukagawa, where history awaited us at Tomioka Hachiman-gu, the birthplace of sumo wrestling tournaments. Walking through the shrine’s grounds, I marveled at the rich cultural heritage surrounding me. As we stood in front of the Sumo monument, I could feel the weight of centuries of tradition. I was also surprised how tall the first sumo wrestlers were and how big were their palms imprinted in stone.
From there, we made our way to Fukagawa Fudō-dō, a temple that was a blend of the traditional and the modern. While I initially found the large LED display advertising the Goma fire rituals jarring, Koji explained the temple’s importance in Esoteric Buddhism, and soon the strange mix of architecture started to make sense. Temple’s prayer corridor with 9500 miniature Fudōmyō (a fierce-looking representation of Buddha’s determination) crystal statues were magnificent.
After all that walking, it was time for lunch. Koji took me to a local restaurant where we tasted a local eel recipe. The tender, savory dish melted in my mouth, and it was the perfect fuel for the next leg of our journey -Kiyosumi Garden. This serene oasis, with its crystal-clear pond and stone pathways, offered a beautiful contrast to the energy of the temple. Koji shared the garden’s history, and as we walked along the water’s edge, I admired the rare stones that had been collected from all over Japan. The teahouse on the water added an air of elegance, and for a moment, I felt transported to another time.
Our final stop of the day was the Fukagawa Edo Museum, a captivating place that recreated life in Edo-period Tokyo. Walking through the streets of the past, I could almost hear the clatter of wooden sandals and the bustle of merchants. It was a fitting end to a day steeped in history and culture.
By the time Koji and I made our way back to my hotel, we had walked about 13 miles tracked on my Garmin watch, yet it felt like the day had flown by. Koji’s deep knowledge of Tokyo’s history, combined with his warmth and approachability, made the tour feel more like a day out with a close friend than a guided experience. As I thanked him and we said our goodbyes, I couldn’t help but feel grateful for the memories we had created together.
If you’re looking to explore Tokyo beyond the usual tourist spots, this tour is an absolute must. It offers a glimpse into the city’s hidden corners, blending history, culture, and local life in a way that makes Tokyo’s rich heritage come alive. I left with a full heart and a deeper understanding of this incredible city.

Great walking tour . Miyuki was one of the best guides that we have ever had. Her knowledge of the areas we went to was excellent. The temperature was very hot, and she ensured that we took breaks, and drank water. She also went out of her way to travel on the subway with us back to the station to catch the correct train back to our hotel. By the time we left Miyuki at the train station she had spent an extra two hours with us.

Thank you very much for your kind words that encourage me a lot. You are really interested in Japanese culture and history. Furthermore, you are curious about learning new things. It was pleasant for me to show you around and introduce various aspects of Japan. You ate Soba noodles in Yanaka and enjoyed the atmosphere in a small local restaurant. The Kiyosumi Garden we arrived just before the closing time was beautiful and peaceful. I enjoyed walking and talking a lot with you. Arigatou! Miyuki

Our guide Show took us to places we would have never discovered ourselves and provided a lot of insight into Japanese Culture and history.

Thank you for taking the time to review our tour. Despite the extreme heat, I appreciate your effort in visiting each spot. I was particularly delighted by your knowledge of Japanese culture and history. Japan is also a great destination in other seasons, such as spring and autumn, so I hope you will visit again.

Hi there, I am looking to book this tour for 4 adults and 1 child (7 years old). I will prefer to have a private vehicle arranged for this tour - can you please quote a price? Thanks.
