Great Tour, definitely worth it.
Se started out doing the recommended route direction but about 20 mins in ran into a road closure due the winter storm the night before. We went back to the starting point downloaded the opposite direction and drove until we hit the same closure from the other side. From there we turned around and drove back. The recommended route is the lake on your passenger side and it's best because it's easier to pull off the road in the view spots. The app was helpful with some history and good places to stop for pictures.

We thoroughly enjoyed this self-guided tour! I downloaded all versions before leaving home as suggested and got acquainted with it, so all went great! We toured half of Lake Tahoe on one day and the other half the following day. We loved learning about the area and the stories shared, as well as having clear directions. Highly recommend! We lucked out with great weather to boot!

A very interesting listen. Really awesome how it integrates/syncs GPS, driving directions and audio. Would definitely suggest everyone get this for their drive around the lake…. And don’t forget to take your picture looking over the edge at Fanny Bridge in Tahoe City.

The tour was a 5 star experience. We learned so much about the area and stopped at locations we would have not known about on our own. It actually took us longer because we made so many stops. The audio and tour are well organized and informative. Would definitely purchase again.

My audio tour covers the entire Lake Tahoe area, and additional stories are available in the Learn More section of the app. The price is the same as last year, and the tour is valid for a year, so you can listen to all the stories at home or during your next visit. Excellent narration that gave us advanced alerts to pullouts around the lake to view amazing scenes. Included historical background, interesting stories, and myths and legends. Also allowed quiet time to admire the views and talk with others in the car.

The tour has great views of Lake Tahoe and the surrounding forests. The narrator gives informative insight into the various stops along the way. Especially liked the warnings of up coming road conditions, such as sharp mountain curves and roadwork in progress.

This is actually a very tough question to answer. If you just drive around the lake listening to the audio tour, depending upon time of year (crowds), it’s probably a bit over an hour to maybe two. But there are dozens of points of interest along the route, so we spent more than half a day including stops and getting out, taking photos and enjoying. And then we went back and re-did some points the next day.

There will probably be snow. If so, a big part of the north road (California side to Nevada) will close the pass for safety. This trip is much better from late spring to fall.

My husband and I are going to Tahoe with three other couples for vacation. We are renting slingshots and motorcycles for a tour around the lake. I thought your audio tour would be a great addition. However can we individually hook up to the audio with our phone and earplugs in order to hear the presentation? Also is a presentation only available for a certain amount of time?

Hi Sandy, this isn’t a presentation but rather an audio guide that plays based on your location as you drive. This would be a perfect fit for what you’re describing! As you guys drive around the lake, the audio will automatically pipe up and begin playing. It’ll tell you about what’s coming up, what to see there, if you should stop, etc.
Since each of you would need the audio to connect to your individual headphones, be sure to purchase one tour per person (normally I would suggest one per car since everyone in a car listens together). Let me know if you have any questions!

I wish we could help answer that question but this trip last May was our first and only trip so far to that area. My guess would be to contact local DOT officials to get their thoughts. These people are use to snowfall so I’m sure they’re going to be experts in removing it to allow roads to be functional. Safe travels!

The tour is basically a loop around the lake so you can technically start anywhere. The minor downside is that the tour may reference people or history mentioned earlier which you missed. But since it’s a loop, you’ll eventually hear it all as you loop back to your hotel! The only “must” is driving clockwise around the lake.

Great question! I assume you are all in one car — so you only need to book one ticket. One person can download the tour onto their phone and play it over the car speakers for everyone. (Basically, book per car instead of per person).
