This was such a great tour, with lots of things to do and see. Andrew Duggan was the best tour guide, he was very kind, funny and knowledgable. I would highly recommend this tour to friends and family.

I wanted to travel to Ireland for a long time but always felt a bit overwhelmed about how to plan it. One of the big factors that was holding me back was the prospect of driving there - I just don't feel confident navigating the narrow roads and adapting to the opposite flow of traffic than what I'm used to in the US. I also had way too many things I wanted to see and do there, so I needed to find a way to narrow my list down to something more realistic. This is where Vagabond Tours comes in - they solved the issue of transportation and they also offered so many different travel route options, that it was easy for me to select a package that best suited my needs! On the 7-Day Driftwood Treasure Ireland Tour, we saw and experienced SO much! Everyday was filled with not only items that were on the itinerary, but also some unexpected and delightful surprises along the way, keeping things exciting and interesting! I loved the atmosphere of a small group tour - our guides truly cared about the wellbeing of the group and were marvelous at providing fun and interesting commentary throughout the journey. The van we traveled in was comfortable as well. Though I only returned from my tour about two weeks ago, I'm already daydreaming about going back to Ireland and doing another trip with Vagabond Tours! I can't recommend this company enough!

So I'm writing to those people who are looking for an Ireland travel experience and not sure who they should trust. Rest assured that your Driftwood Tour of Ireland will be all that you're hoping for and then some!
Brendan was our tour guide and he did an amazing job of providing narration and historical reference. throughout our Kingdoms & Castles Driftwood tour. All the great reviews on Trip Advisor are accurate.

We just wrapped up an incredible 7-day Driftwood Island Tour. In addition to visiting iconic Irish sites, we experienced the breathtaking countryside and stunning views of the Atlantic Ocean. We enjoyed comfortable accommodations and delicious meals throughout the journey.
Our guide, Conor, was fantastic. He shared a wealth of historical and cultural knowledge, covering topics such as the Vikings, the Anglo-Norman invasion, Christianity, English occupation, independence, and the civil war. Before each stop, Conor provided an overview of the site's history and its significance to Ireland. He also infused our experience with Irish music, stories, singing, and plenty of “craic” to keep us entertained.
One highlight was an afternoon with Dee, who took us on a scenic drive along the Sleigh Head loop on the Dingle Peninsula. She showcased the rugged beauty of the landscape and shared insights into the lives of the people who have inhabited the area for centuries.

We and another couple took a tour from Dublin around the north and back. Only 15 people, and there were a foursome from Canada and another from around Boston. Vagabond does "hiking" or "rugged" tours but they also have the less strenuous "Driftwood" trips like ours. we had walking activities every day but were alway driven between stops. Our driver Conor not only kept us entertained with history, culture, sports and geography, but turned us all into friends. Some accommodations were magnificent, some smaller, but all were comfortable. The route included something new every day and was great for folks like us who wanted to get to know the place but were not sure where to pick. We saw everything from working sheep dogs, to cliffs and seascapes, to towns with shops, castles and pubs, and walking the walls in Derry. Restaurant recommendations in every town were spot on. We had dreaded the idea of unpacking every night but even that did not spoil the trip.

The 7 days tour in the Republic of Ireland was amazing. The guide, Damian, was fantastic-personable, flexible, very informative about history and locations. Saw amazing scenery, stayed in wonderful accommodations. Not one complaint about anything. Would do it again.

Conor was a wonderful guide for our 7 day Driftwood tour of the south and west of Ireland! He was a wealth of knowledge for all of the sites we visited as well as regarding the history of Ireland in general. He provided lots of helpful tips regarding restaurants and points of interest in the towns we stayed in. He made our time in the bus a lot of fun with his tales and his sense of humor and also a great safe driver. Our one-day guide Dee also gave us a fantastic tour of the Dingle Peninsula.

We always knew where we were headed each day. After city traffic, we got to know our guide, Conor. He knows and loves Ireland’s history and tells it with his storytelling gift. By the end of the adventure, we can’t imagine him in any other profession.
Every day was packed full, and our group had lots to share with each other at the end of the day. We were able to squeeze in a few short side trips along the way and everything was so memorable. We think Vagabond got it right by scheduling small group tours and we think the price was exceptional for the sights, hotels and almost daily surprises.
Here’s an example…while lunching at MacCarthy’s Bar in Castletownbere, we learned of Dr. Aidan MacCarthy’s story of his trials as a POW during WW 2, and how he came into possession of a Samurai sword. The story and sword were presented to us by his daughter! She and her sister inherited the pub from their father and enjoy sharing his legacy if time permits.

It was our first time overseas and our first time on a guided tour. It was an experience we will always treasure and will fondly remember for years to come. From the moment we were picked up at the Grand Canal Hotel on the first morning, we were checked in and introduced to our guide, Steve. Steve did an outstanding job. He was welcoming, funny, entertaining, and patient with guests' questions and requests. He provided us with a wealth of knowledge and explanation about the places we were seeing and Irish history. He also did an excellent job driving, navigating all those one-way roads!
Our itinerary was spot-on, and the choice of hotels was excellent. It was an amazing experience, and we thank you for providing it for us

We did the 7 Day Treasure Ireland tour and thoroughly enjoyed it! The itinerary was good , the views were stunning, the stops interesting and the accommodations were wonderful. What made the trip excellent was our guide , Steve. We have travelled a lot and Steve was the best guide that we have ever had. He was extremely knowledgeable on Irish history , flexible if we wanted to do something a little different and had a wonderful sense of humour. Steve was fun to be with , thoughtful and very kind & helpful.

We stayed at the Grand Canal also due to early start in the morning. Place was nice and staff very helpful. Many from our group also stayed there.

I have reservations for July.... coming from the US interested in hearing what did you pack for the 7 day tour? Where there items you wished you had taken or items you should have not taken? Trying to figure how I can get everything in small suitcase ! Thanks so much for feedback!

I hope you have as much fun as we did on this tour! We went in May but according to our guide, the weather doesn’t change all that much during spring/summer. I also live in FL so the weather was chilly for us. A raincoat & comfy walking shoes are musts & I took 4 pairs of jeans, 8 t-shirts, 2 cardigans, 2 button shirts. I usually started the day with a t-shirt, a light cardigan & the raincoat but by mid day, the cardigan or the raincoat would be off. There’s no need to change for dinner so 1 outfit a day is good. There was nothing more I would’ve taken & nothing I would’ve left behind. I didn’t have any trouble getting everything in a carry-on but others on the tour took larger bags (Vagabond says up to 30” is OK). Enjoy your time in Ireland - I’m jealous & can’t wait to go back!

What is the difference of the 7 day Vagabond trip and the 7 day Driftwood Treasure Ireland trip? Is one trip more active than the other? And what about the 8 day trip? I am interested in the Southwest of Ireland.

The Vagabond tours are more active than the Driftwood tours. The Vagabond tours usually include longer hikes & maybe kayaking, surfing, horseback riding, etc. But don’t think that there’s not activity in the Driftwood tour because there is, just not as much or as intense. It looks like the 8 day tour is more along the line of the Vagabond tours. We did the 7 day Driftwood Treasure Ireland trip. It goes completely to the west side of Ireland & also covers the southern area. The overnights are in small towns which are very charming. It was incredible & we really loved it. Hope you’ll try it.

The tour is structured so that you make stops for lunch where you can wander off and find a place to eat, if time is restricted because of the schedule, the options are still good. For dinner, Madison explains well the choices. On some days you may arrive at your accommodation and just have time to settle in and then it's time for dinner, so you may be quite content to eat at the hotel. These offer good options and atmosphere. Dingle is a place where you can unwind a little and explore the town.
As for hiking on your own, most of the destinations allow for this and are not rigidly structured. The visit to the farm is more structured as expected but highly enjoyable. We went in April but the days would be longer in Summer. Small tour that I would highly recommend and they try to accommodate any requests you may make.
