Pompeii was nice but felt like a tourist trap. Didn’t see a lot of interesting things in this guided tour

Paid for a skip the line ticket for me and my husband as we had our 2 year old with us so queuing would have been difficult.
We came from Naples especially for this activity and arrived to pick up the tickets from the location that was a good 20mins walk away from the venue,which was fine but only to be told the printer was not working so they could not give me a ticket. No alternative offered initially and they tried to charge me just for the audio tour which I explained was not what I wanted if I did not have skip the line. After a lot of back and forth for over 30minutes flitting between giving me a refund or fixing the problem they managed to get someone to bring a ticket from the Pompeii site.
Whilst the women were trying to be helpful in the end it was a terrible experience and we arrived to the ruins a lot later than we hoped so we had less time to look around. I asked to not do the audio tour and just take the skip the line tickets, so we did not have to come back to the pick up location and exchange the audio devices for the ID they kept as deposit, this would mean we could take the time back to look around the ruins and not rush back before the ticket pick up office closed but they said no to that too.
The audio tour was not the best, 2/5. We’ve done many of these before so overall a bad experience, it may be a one off in general but there was hardly any flexibility shown to make up for the problem so overall it was lacking. Would not recommend.

El contacto permanente de la empresa previo al paseo.
Puede llamarles y explicarles que iba a llegar mas tarde por tema de trenes y me tranquilizaron que tenia tiempo.
Por otro lado, me asesoraron en el uso del equipo.
Falto, un mapa impreso para orientarme mejor dentro de las ruinas.
El GPS no funcionaba muy bien.
Me quede sin bateria en un momento y no pude continuar con la visita normalmente.
Me dijeron que tardaba 2 horas en recorrer todo pero no es asi. Necesitas mucho mas tiempo.
Plantee todas estas cosas al regreso y me reintegraron el dinero.
Asique se portaron de maravillas.

We had driven to Pompeii without a real plan and came across the Audio Guide booth near the train station. At first it seemed like any other street vendor pushing a service but we found the price to be modest for a small group tour. It was February and off season, so about 20 people in the tour group. Each person has an ear piece to listen to the tour guide as we walked around the park. Our guide Rosella (?) was fantastic and really explained what we were seeing and why it was important. She had a great energy and passion about her that made the tour very enjoyable. After the tour we were free to wander the park and take in the sights at our leisure.

The staff were really nice in the Pompei train station. Had an issue but there was no problem with getting help from them. They couldn’t have been more helpful

We really enjoyed seeing Pompeii. Just a shame we had to collect the tickets elsewhere which caused some confusion

booked online through tripadvisor. tried to cancel for a refund due to illness. no way to contact company direct while abroad and they refuse to provide a refund.

like any booking portal, there are cancellation rules to be observed.
For our services, it is only possible to refund the booked service within 24 hours in advance.
Unfortunately, you booked the service for 27 September at 14:00, but as you can see, you requested the refund on 27 September at 14:27.
So you can see that you are late with the cancellation rules. When we receive a booking, we already purchase your tickets and reserve your audioguides, so it is not possible for us to cancel the purchase, it would be a financial loss for us.
In addition, when booking from this portal it is never possible to be in direct contact with the agency. This is a rule of the Viator portal.
These rules are all stated at the time of booking.
We are sorry for this problem, but these are rules that must be respected for the correct functioning of the organisational system.

Good morning, we are sorry you are experiencing these problems.
The package purchased through the Viator portal does not include delivery of the map of Pompeii.
The paper map must be purchased on arrival.
The device you are using is an audio guide complete with an explanation of the excavations of Pompeii and you do not need to purchase a map because it is already inside the audio guide device.
Each customer is always explained how and where to start and end the visit of Pompeii.
We are very sorry for your problems and hope that we can be of help to you on your next trip to Italy.

The confirmation email said to go to the Main Entrance called Porta Marina. When we got there they wouldn’t issue us with an entrance ticket. They said that we needed to go into the city centre. We then went to another ticket issuer who said we were to go back to Porto Marina. At least half an hour went by and we still couldn’t gain entrance. We tried to call the number given on several occasions with no reply. Eventually my husband got through and was told to go to an hotel in the main village square and a gentleman would meet us there. We found the hotel and was sent to a small market stall where we got tickets and audio equipment and finally got in. This is not a cheap tour and the collection instructions are terrible. Need to do better!

Hi Ms Sereya. first of all thanks for the time spent to write this review. As we already told you when we met, the meeting point is well pointed on the voucher. FS train station is the only one of Pompei (the other two are called Circumvesuviana) and it is very easy to found it; anyway, misunderstanding could happen, the important thinks, in our opinion, is to find a solution. This is why we reach you to give you the tickets, just to help you and we feel very sad that u didn't appreciated it. If you need some help write us! We are always more than happy to help you!

The ticket is described as ‘skip the line’ that’s not true, you still have to queue for your ticket. Also not mentioned in the booking process is that it must be collected from one specific location. None of the official Pompei staff at each entry gate know anything about the voucher you are given by Tripadvisor. In fact we were sent in completely the wrong direction by one of the gate staff.
The other thing that is not made clear is the Audio Guide is NOT the sites official guide. It’s a third party system which is not compatible with the signs and numbers around the site.

Our audio guide comes with a well detailed map and provides well detailed explanations, at the time of delivery we explain well how it should be used. I hope you still spent a nice afternoon in Pompeii.
