APPALLING - do not book with this operator!!!
We received a WhatsApp message 2 minutes before we were due at our meeting point to say that our tickets had been cancelled. It was a long and clearly pre-prepared WhatsApp stating that they had been "... unable to secure your ticket due to the Vatican's sudden policy change." Apparently the Vatican had made a last minute decision to limit access to all external tour operators due to technical issues. This seems highly implausible. And then GetYourGuide (whom we'd booked through) sent us an email saying that "... Ancient and Recent can no longer provide Rome: Vatican Museums Skip-the-line Entry Ticket on 28 September 2024 at Rome, Italy. They've informed us that this activity cannot be offered due to a blackout in your destination." We were there and there certainly wasn't a blackout! Having read the reviews, I can see that this has happened to multiple other customers on other dates too.
Please do not book tickets with this provider.

As a professional travel agency with many years of experience, it's normal for our communications to use a standardized language. We certainly cannot send a hastily written message. The message from GetYourGuide is an automated one and does not specifically reference your situation. Whenever we handle a cancellation, the email is automatically sent by GetYourGuide through our system. Therefore, there is no reason for us to have misled you; this is simply how these platforms operate.
I kindly ask you not to make assumptions or invent stories to justify a low rating. We regret what happened and will continue to do so. Please let me know how I can assist you further.

Absolutely appalling service!!! I received a message the night before confirming our booking for priority tickets to the Vatican. We turned up at the allocated place at the allocated time… No member of staff there. I eventually messaged to ask when they would be arriving. Only then did I receive a message saying they had to cancel the tour! This was 5 minutes after we were supposed to be on the tour. No guidance was given as to how we could get tickets for another provided.

Once again, we sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused, and we will never stop doing so. However, I must clarify a few things. Sometimes, to justify a low rating, customers like you tend to completely fabricate certain details while conveniently omitting others. Otherwise, such a low score would be hard to justify for anyone reading your review.
First of all, I want to start by saying I'm sorry again. It's simply not true that we reached out with such little notice. As we explained in the chat and over the phone, the cancellation was due to circumstances beyond our control, so we could not have notified you any earlier. In fact, the message was sent an hour before your scheduled time, not five minutes after, as it would have been impossible to communicate that quickly.
Additionally, the apology message included detailed information on how to obtain alternative tickets. Despite this, we continued to provide you with assistance through chat and phone calls.
We understand your frustration and want to apologize once again for the inconvenience caused, but we cannot allow misrepresented details to create a disastrous picture that doesn’t reflect the truth.
Thank you for your understanding.

Two weeks in advance I had bought tickets for the Vatican Museums for 127€. I show up half an hour early and they tell me that due to over booking my Reservation did not allow me access to museums. Unfortunately in my same situation other Italian customers and not only. But I do not give up, the police arrive and the person in charge on the phone (who obviously does not show up on the spot) tells me that he can do me the kindness to refund me. I still show up at the entrance of the museums and find that this situation had already arisen several times during the day, as I understand our tickets have been sold. Beware near the Guide there were several bathers 🤔. Security lets me through, they take me to the cashier and I pay for the tickets 48€.

Siamo davvero desolati di dover leggere questa recensione e, ancor di più, di dover affrontare queste accuse. Non ci stancheremo mai di chiederle scusa per la sua cancellazione, che, come abbiamo spiegato sia in chat sia di persona, non è dipesa da noi.
Proprio perché ha scoperto di essersi presentata più volte durante la giornata, poteva quindi capire che il problema era reale e non dovuto a noi. Non avevamo alcun interesse a venderle un biglietto; che senso avrebbe avuto? Come avremmo potuto cancellare la sua prenotazione e rivenderle il biglietto?
Se c’erano bagarini, cosa c’entriamo noi? Che senso avrebbe avuto rivendere i biglietti e offrirle di accompagnarla? Chiamarci truffatori è davvero scorretto. La sua recensione è priva di fondamento e senza senso. Se si era ripetuta durante la giornata, come avremmo potuto vendere i suoi biglietti e a chi?
Il nostro staff ha fatto tutto il possibile per scusarsi, offrendosi anche di accompagnarla alle casse per acquistare un biglietto, unico punto in cui era possibile farlo. E ribadiamo che la situazione non dipendeva da noi.
Ci teniamo a ribadire che siamo qui per assistere i nostri clienti e ci rammarichiamo per qualsiasi inconveniente possa aver vissuto.

I bought the ticket almost two months in advance and one day before they canceled it. They left me with no option to buy a new ticket, they didn't even offer a new time or any help, they canceled it and disappeared from the map... A trip planned for months, I crossed the globe and when I got here I was left helpless, terrible company, don't do anything with them.

Dear Costumer,
This review is completely fabricated. How exactly would we have "disappeared off the map"? Do you think we can fly? We had to cancel your booking due to reasons beyond our control, and we apologized both in chat and in person.
It’s really sad to see such lies being spread to justify a negative review. Saying that we canceled the booking in no way justifies this level of malice. We don’t understand why you would go to such lengths to be cruel, especially when we’ve apologized and done everything we could to find a solution.
This is just unwarranted.

These guys are a scam. They cancel my booking before few hours when I already reached to the meeting point. Please don’t book through them. They will cancel at last moment and then have their guys contact you and buy tickets at a much expensive rates.

We are truly saddened to read a review like this. As explained in our chat, it is unfortunately true that we had to cancel your booking due to circumstances beyond our control. What is truly upsetting, however, is reading outright lies about our staff. These are heavy, false, and unfair accusations. We have apologized for the inconvenience. But to claim that we tried to contact you to sell tickets is simply vile and disgusting.
We have already informed Tripadvisor to remove this false review. This is beyond unacceptable—it's shameful.

I bought a ticket through TripAdvisor/Viator to see the Vatican and the Sistine chapel. When we got there to pick it up, they had no evidence of us even booking/a ticket even though I had paid and received a confirmation number. The staff there tried very hard to find it-calling the office etc. They even tried to figure out a way for us to get tickets as this was our last day in Rome. There were no tickets available. They told us our only option was to go back in the ticket line (long) and hope to buy another ticket, and then get back in the line we were in. Successfully negating the fact of the skip the line ticket I had purchased.
Needless to say, they thankfully refunded our ticket. BUT I did NOT get to see the Vatican. Ruining that experience. The staff, atleast tried their best to accommodate. But someone dropped the ball. Badly.
If you book, apparently book through them. Not through TripAdvisor. Because you may not get your ticket and your experience will be ruined like mine.
Needless to say, they thankfully refunded our ticket. BUT I did NOT get to see the Vatican. Ruining that experience. The staff, atleast tried their best to accommodate. But someone dropped the ball. Badly.
