      Ut på landet..kjekt det..
Bussavgang 11:00 bak hovedjernbanestasjonen (200 m). Flott buss. Flink fører. Flink og hyggelig (og bestemt guide). Rundtur i Zuriz. Rundt og rundt. Første stopp Rapperswil. Noen gamle hus. Liten rosehage. Lunsj. Mc Donald. Neste stopp: 10 min til fotografering av gamle hus i Werdenberg. Egentlig en sidegate i en mye større by. Neste stopp. Vaduz. 48 min.

There was an Asian tour guide who was absolutely the rudest person I have ever seen taking people on this tour. He is posted in several photos on this trip advisor post, so I will not post another one. He yelled extremely loud at a lady who sat on the train instead of just kindly requesting her to move. I have never been so embarrassed to be with a tour guide like this. I really wanted to quit the tour at this moment. No one should act like this, and especially not when you are leading a group of people. It is so simple to politely ask people to move and if they don't, it's the train’s workers who are responsible to request it. Yelling is not acceptable.
I would save the money and do the train ride yourself! It will be much more enjoyable. I found him to be quite obnoxious after this whole incident. Go to the train station and buy your ticket there instead.

Breathtaking views, this is a trip I will reminisce on for years to come. Extremely accommodating for someone in a wheelchair, like myself. If you can walk a few steps or have a friend who can assist you up a couple of steps on and off the bus/train you will have no problem enjoying this tour. Highly recommend this trip for anyone looking to see the mountains of Switzerland.

Day 1-I want to start my summary by thanking all the TA experts for their advice, suggestions, and quick responses
to my inquires. Your help and the help of many of the lovely people we met in Turkey made this visit very special. If any one has any questions, please reach out. I will post individual reviews of the hotels, restaurants, and some of our experiences separately. I hope the pictures I post will begin to do justice to the variety of experiences we had over the 15 days exploring the treasures of Turkey.Day 4 -11 we joined an organized Gate 1 Tour
We begin- left New York on a direct night flight to Istanbul on Turkish Airlines. Despite, lots of help on the site, we had a little difficulty with public transportation from the airport. If I were do it again, would take a taxi to our hotel. We missed our bus connection and did not want to wait an addition 45 minutes for the next bus. We purchased our Istanbulckart card outside the airport and bought two additional bus tickets that would get us to the Mararay train. Short story, it was dark and we were unfamiliar but fortunately we met a stewardess on our bus, got off the bus with her and she put us in a cab and were at our hotel in 20 minutes. Arrived at the Renaissance Polat Istanbul Hotel and could not have been more pleased. They have the largest outdoor swimming pool in a hotel in Istanbul and I had the pool to myself. They also have a wonderful indoor pool. Bring your bathing suits and bathing cap if you want to use the pool. First night, we ate in the hotel restaurant and the food was beautifully presented and well prepared. We over ordered but really enjoyed the chicken corn soup and grilled fish.

Day2-Merhaba The adventure begins- We booked the “Taste of Two Continents” excursion on TA before coming. Our tour leader Tugce Ucar was a passionate foodie, presenting a historic, cultural, and food prospective of the foods in Istanbul. We began with an outdoor typical Turkish breakfast with ingredients our guide picked up around the Spice Market. We had nine very unique food experiences. A 20 minute ferry ride to the Asian side of Istanbul was perfect. There, food included lamb intestines, a salted yogurt drink, wonderful fermented grape that is not quite considered a wine, a buttery dish with honey lentil soup, stuffed grape leaves,Turkish eggs- my favorite, etc. We had pickles at Lezzet-i Sark,Beyyran, Kadikoy Ozcan Tursu. This establishment opened in 1935 and started as a pushcart. Isskender Iskienderroglu is a fourth generation restaurant. Last restaurant stop was Mado Geercek Lezzetler for an ice cream and baklava desert- everything in the display looked delicious. It was a well spent 6 hour day which included a ferry to the Asian side and if you wanted, the tour ended near the Kakdikoy ferry terminal with a return trip on the ferry. We opted to stay and walk around. While not inexpensive, we really found the tour worthwhile as we got to explore different neighborhoods with an experienced local guide. We also wandered the streets in the neighborhood of Moda. We saw many tables with people playing the game “OK” which I believe Is called Rummy cube in the states. Despite eating for 6 hours, we managed to have a small dinner agin at the hotel.

Day 3- We took the metro to the Basilica Cistern. It was an easy walk uphill from the train. We passed a great place for freshly squeezed peach juice. It is a most impressive scientific and engineering feat considering both the time and the resources. The underground water-storage tank was built to supply Constantinople with water as it was the ideal site for trade but did not have a local source of its own.We were told that they also have concerts there and it is often used in film locations. It is opened from 9-5. We went first thing in the morning and had no difficulty getting tickets.
After, we went to the Tomb of Sultan Ahmed, and worked our way to the Sultanahmet Camii, or the Blue Mosque. It is known for its more than 20,000 blue ionic tiles. The line, though very long, moved quickly. Female visitors must wear a scarf. It is oped 9-7 but closes during prayer time. On our way to lunch, we passed the Hurrem Sultan Hammy, Turkish baths. By the time I joined my husband outside, as there are separate Turkish baths for men and women, he had booked us a full treatment for 1:00. The service was 5 stars! I was pampered, scrubbed, and feed. This was an amazing experience. We were told that the bubble massage is traditional and the oil massage is something that tourist like. I enjoyed every part. Afterwards, walked through the Grand Bazar and found the building very interesting but overwhelming. We took the tram, and metro back to the hotel, joining our Gate1 tour for introductions and a lite dinner.

Day 4 - Even though we are now on the tour, I thought it would be helpful to list some of the things we did with them and on our own. First stop was the Rustem Pashe, a 17th century Ottoman Mosque. It is considered one of the most beautiful small mosques with beautiful traditional tile work both geometric and floral designs. Afterwards, off to the Hippodrome. It was made famous during the Roman period for chariot races, and athletic events.
We went into Topkapi Palace which reminded me of the Forbidden City in China with its many different walled courtyards. A lunch spot for good chicken and rice. World Famous Pudding Shop Restaurant, opened since 1957. It was at one time a hippy hang out. It is famous for rice pudding. Bill Clinton also once ate there.
We returned to the Spice market and once again teased by the aromas. This time we could not resist buying the famous Turkish coffee from Kurukahveci Mehmet Efendi. We noticed that the spices were less expensive outside of the market and were told that is where locals shop for spices and teas. Afternoon at Hagia Sophia, the 6th century Byzantine Basilica which became a museum but was converted back to a mosque in 2020. Closed during prayer times, it re opens from 9-11 everyday .The dome is considered a miracle as it doesn’t really fit perfectly. We also saw the St. Sophia Turkish Islamic Arts museum - including a beautiful rug exhibit. That evening, back near out hotel, we found a local spot where we grilled our own food.
Day5- Took a bus to Galilee. On our way to the Anzac Cemetary, a memorial to the Australian and New Zealand Army Corp that fought against the Ottoman during World War 1. Our bus crossed on the ferry from Europe to Asia to visit Troy.
Day 6- Ate in a local village called Gobbler, meaning “brothers who share the same tummy”. This was one of the highlights of my time in Turkey. I was with 5 other (gluten free) travelers and the vegetarian meal including the bread was prepared so we did not have to worry. It was wonderful getting to know this lovely family .Visited Pregamum on our way to Izmir, walking the waterside promenade at sunset near our hotel.
Day 7- Excursion to Ephesus and House of the Virgin Mary, the temple of Hadrian, Archaeological Museum, the toilets, spa areas, even Elvis, yes Elvis.
Day 8- Visited the Necropolis and the ancient city of Hierapolis atop of the Pamukkale hot springs. It has white calcium cascades. The hotsprings, has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage site. It has served as a thermal bath since the 2nd century B.C If you chose to take a dip, bring a towel. This area is also well known for yogurt, honey, and poppy seeds. Important tip- It is very slippery and we saw many fit people slip and fall. You are only allowed to go barefoot in this protected area.
Day 9- Antalya Archaeological Museum , and Perge. The museum with artifacts dating back over 2500 years. It is set up chronologically and is another museum that I would have returned to if I had more time.
Day 10- Early morning air Balloon Ride in Cappadocia. This was something I really was looking forward to, having done balloon rides in several countries and was excited to soar over the fairy chimney formations. The company itself was very efficient in picking us up from the hotel and returning us. I was impressed how the balloonist landed on the flat bed trucks. That afternoon we opted to do a half day tour of Capppadocia including the Open Air Museum on the Goreme Valley to see the early Christian Churches and the Ozkonak Underground city. There are 365 churches at the open air museum. The Apple Church left an impression. In the underground city we saw evidence of wine making, pottery, sophisticated safe houses. It is not for anyone, if you are claustrophobic, you might want to skip this one.
Day 11- Cruise the Bosphorus in perfect weather. This was a wonderful experience and a nice way to share time with the new friends we made on the trip.It also gave us ideas of places we still wanted to visit before returning to the states.
Day12- Back on our own-Return to Istanbul, staying at the Mr 10 Karakoy Hotel, centrally located hotel in walking distance to The Galata Towers and bridge. We took a short tram ride to the Istanbul Modern, eager to see contemporary Turkish artist’s work. We were fortunate to catch the photographs by Nuri Bilge Ceylan and exciting work by women artists and digital installations. They do have a senior admission rate that is not advertised.I would strongly recommend the museum which also has a lovely gift shop. The museum is closed on Mondays. Next stop was Dolmabahce Palace, also closed on Monday now a public museum. Our ticket included entry to Selamllik, Harem, Painting museum, and the gardens. The buildings, gates, grounds are worth seeing. DInner at restaurant recommended by our hotel, on an upper floor near the foot of the bridge. They are known for kebobs, Turkish pizza, and grilled fish.
Day 13- crossed the bridge to return to the Spice Market and picked up spices from Elmaslar just outside the market, directly opposite the coffee roaster Kurukahueci Mehmet Efendi,in business since 1871. We noticed that this shop was filled with local women making purchases. The owner was very helpful, with no pressure, suggesting teas and spices, each vacuum packed for customers for travel and freshness. Back on the other side of the bridge for lunch we went to Durumzade , a tiny place recommended by Anthony Bourdaine and my son. This is inexpensive street food with a few tables. They do not accept credit cards. We had a plate of grilled meats. We wandered the streets, including the shopping street Istiklal with a mission to go to Barnathan Istanbul a hotel restaurant with a rooftop that has panaramic views including the Galata Towers. We came for the views and stayed for the Brownie and ice cream desert. Good service, but you must have a reservation for dinner.
Day 14- Took advantage of our last morning and walked over the bridge once again to return to Elmaslar, at the spice market for Sumac and wandered the largest outdoor market, and Fatih neighborhood before leaving Turkey.

The trip was great. Ken was super on top of getting us the best spots on the trains and gondola. He made sure we got a ton of the best pics. He is a little rough around the edges but it is for a reason. He really made sure we got our moneys worth. Totally recommend.

What a fantastic trip, I am glad that I read the reviews frist, as I was forewarned about Kid. A fantastic experienced tour guide, he knows all of the places to get the best photos and videos, he gets you where you need to go in double time so you don't spend hours queuing, thus more time enjoying the experience, but he is a force of nature, that some people did struggle with. be warned, he is a diva who is an expert at hearding cats, he takes no prisoners, but gets results. On the other hand he noticed that a member of our party had an ankle injury and was struggling to keep up, as such he made a point of holding her hand and kept checking that she was ok, so that she didn't get left behind.

We went to some fantastic, beutiful places and Jungfraujoch is breathtaking, well worth it, and thanks to kid, we have some amazing photos to look back on.

We had 36 of us take a day trip from Lucerne to the Jungfraujoch and it was a fantastic day! We left early morning and drove through some of the most spectacular scenery in the Lauterbrunnen valley. We took two different trains up to the mountains until we reached the Jungfraujoch. We had lunch in the Crystal Cafe which was a sufficient meal. Wasn't bad at all, but nothing to get excited about. We visited the Ice Caves which was really cool and went out on the viewing platform, however, it was snowing and a complete white-out, so we could not see a thing from there! So, no mountain/glacier vista views that day unfortunately. But everyone enjoyed it none the less. Definitely felt that altitude up there! They do offer cans of oxyegen for sale if you have any issues breathing. I'm in relatively good health and the breathing affected me a bit at certain points, but nothing serious. One of our group members passed out momentarily and fell down, but came out of it quickly. Another person (not in our group) passed out at the train station on the way back and did not regain consciousness while we were there. They had to call for medical assistance. (a bit scary to witness). We then took the cable car back down the rest of the way to meet our bus. This was a spectacular day tour and I highly recommend it. (our tour was a private tour just for our group, but I believe they offer similar day tours through Viator/Project Expedition etc)

This was the most memorable part of of our trip to Switzerland. Kid was the best tour guide - the company should be very happy to have him. He knew exactly the right places to take photos and made sure everyone had nice photos and videos at the end of the day. The views were phenomenal and everything ran smoothly. Absolutely no complaints as you couldn’t have asked for anything more.

This was a great tour! Kid was a hoot and did a great job herding cats. Jungfrau was beautiful and definitely worth the time to visit. It was definitely a highlight of our trip to Switzerland.

We helicoptered to the top of two glaciers and honestly loved the low level flying more. The hills are so green and the glaciers are dusty looking. Lucerne seemed crowded for this time of year. Food in town was par at best. We always felt safe.

Shopping was mostly routine, the ferry boats were good and the Burgenstock Resort now ranks as our best stay ever--beating out some famous, worldly estates. We almost returns this week and we will return soon.
