We booked our tour with Bruno after reaching out to another "Tour by Locals" guide who was booked. He referred us to Bruno and we were so glad we had the day with him. He was an excellent communicator from our initial contact until our pick up time in Lisbon. He was born and raised in Sintra so has a deep passion for the area and shared his extensive knowledge and personal stories from growing up. The castles were closed due to wildfires in the Northern parts of Portugal but that didn't stop us from having an amazing day (we weren't planning on seeing the interiors of the castles regardless so it didn't change our itinerary). We were picked up promptly at our meeting point and from then on the day flew by. Bruno gave a great mix of time on our own to explore Sintra and Cascais along with portions that he accompanied us and provided history and details that we wouldn't have gotten had we done things on our own. He was a great driver and always put our safety first. He took us to a few "secret" stops that only someone who grew up in the area would know about. He brought us to a great lunch spot on the coast and was very mindful of the fact that some may prefer to dine alone. We invited him to join us for lunch (we highly recommend that you do) and he helped with the menu, portions and we tried things we wouldn't have had he not been along. After lunch we continued our journey and despite our tour lasting longer than anticipated we were not charged extra and he did not rush us to get back to Lisbon.

I was in Lisbon with my family and the hotel suggested us this tour (pick up / drop off at the hotel and a daily private tour to sintra, cabo de roca, cascais and belem tower). Sarah and Ana (our private guide and driver) made the difference in this day! 2 sweet girls very passionate, kind and nice that stay with us the full day giving the opportunity to discover these treasures. I would totally suggest this tour to explore something special out of Lisbon, it worth!!

I’m from Texas in the USA and I’ve been on a number of tours and BRUNO is excellent. He is educated, intelligent, kind, helpful and has your safety in mind. His knowledge of history rivals Wikipedia (slight exaggeration)- He knows about far more than just Lisbon and Evora and other common tourist areas - he will customize your tour. BRUNO is the best.

We enjoyed an excellent day with Joao for our tour to Sinatra and Cascais. He was delightful, extremely knowledgable and very flexible to tailor our tour to what we wanted to do. He was also a very steady driver and we felt comfortable in the car with our 3 kids. Highly recommend this tour both for the sites and the guide.

José was the most amazing tour guide anyone could ever ask for! He is extremely knowledgeable, super friendly, easy to talk to and such a professional. We felt safe and comfortable and knew we were in the hands of an expert local.
José arrived on time and with a car seat for my toddler. He was extremely understanding when my son got car sick, and made sure to be as helpful as possible with everything we had going on.
We learned so much about Sintra and Portugal from this tour, and got to wander through some breathtakingly beautiful places…they are hands down my favorite memories from this trip.
We were even taken to a great local restaurant for lunch by the beach, and had a wonderful time.
I would rate José more stars if I could, for we felt that his guidance and knowledge were beyond anything we could have expected. Thank you soo much for everything, this was the tour of a lifetime!

Victor is an extremely well informed and interesting tour guide! We had the most wonderful and informative day. He was very flexible with timing and tour locations to accommodate our interests. The private day tour of Sintra and Cascais with Bruno of Portugal Unknown Tours was amazing. Bruno was punctual, friendly, knowledgeable and very helpful. Highly recommended Bruno as he is the best driver and guide for Sintra day tour.

I was looking for a Sintra daytrip tour for last Tuesday the 20th and having spoken to a couple of really good tour guide companies, Bruno stood out for being able to provide not only a fantastic offer (entry tickets included for Pena Palace and Monserrat) and the fact that they were a local business based in Sintra, really helped make me feel confident about going with them. Bruno also recognized that we would have a more consistent experience with him doing the tour versus the original plan of having the next best available person and he swapped and made the proactive move to be available for us. Was pretty impressive.
On the day of, we started earlier at 8:30AM so we can cover more ground. Bruno was on time, such a professional, and was warm and friendly. We started in Cascais but since I mentioned Estoril, he made sure we drove there to see it. For the duration of the day, Bruno brought us to Cabo da Roca, Monserrate Palace, and shared a wealth of information on the history of the place and did the same for Pena Palace, we only did the gardens given it was already a full day. Now, the Pena Palace is enormous and I somehow got lost in the gardens, perhaps the signs and symbols could also be improved. Thankfully, Bruno was already on his way back to pick us up and literally met me halfway along the lakes. What a huge relief, especially when your phone battery is about to die on you. One thing that my husband and I also tremendously enjoyed is the lunch spot where he took us. It's away from the touristic spots in Sintra and the view is incredible. If you don't mind paying for fantastic food (esp. seafood), you'll definitely enjoy. If you read this and you end up hiring him, tell him to bring you there. It was easily our best meal in Lisbon and the highlight of our day even. We enjoyed his company and invited him for lunch as well, we definitely had a great time and meañ together. As he drove us back to the hotel, we realized that we actually ended way past 6pm and it didn't feel like a private tour that counted every hour solely for revenue. I'm about to create a YT video about our Sintra daytrip so feel free to check that (channl on my profile). Overall, Bruno and his company have my highest recommendation. Our tour guide, Joǎo Lopes, was incredibly passionate about the history and culture of Portugal and the surrounding Lisbon area making the trip that much more enjoyable. He also was extremely good about giving recommendations, asking if we had any special requests, being flexible and giving you time to explore. The weather was amazing and the whole experience was a 5 out of 5.

Hi! We will be in Sintra overnight for 2 nights and this trip sounds wonderful for our 1 full day. We will be staying at the Hotel Sintra Marmoris. Do can you arrange to pick us up at this hotel since we will not be coming from Lisbon? And is the trip private for just the 2 of us? If not, what is the maximum number of people on the tour? We have booked this tour for Friday with a pickup time in Lisbon at 09:00. I want to buy tickets to the National Palace of Peña but they require me I specify an entry time. What entry time do you suggest? Will 10:00 be ok?

Personally I think you should get a later time, 10:30 or 11. We were there in September with lots of tourists, not sure # of tourists this time of year. After being dropped off by the driver we still had a 10-15 minute walk, uphill. We stood in line for 20 minutes. Once the time opens up the line moves fairly quickly to get to the front door, but there is one door in and your pace slows down.
