This was a great way to get around and see the sights in Oslo.
We used this off the cruise port. We had to walk down to the corner past the Fortress to get on a they no longer pick up from the Port. They do however drop off at the souvenir shop at the Oslo port. There are free earbuds near the drivers station. You can listen to history and information in several languages about each stop
**make sure you get on the right bus. There is a similar bus in operation. This company bus is stamped "official" city sightseeing tour

Never choose this bus tour we payed 1000nok we got out at the 2nd stop and we waited for 2 hours and no buses came and in the online tracker map all the buses dissapeared so we were forced to get back to the city centre by metro.

We bought tickets online for the Red bus Hop On Hop Off and went to the departure point, showed our tickets and were then told that the Company we bought from was Stromma and was a Swedish run company which was not the genuine tour. After much talking and convincing by Mr Amer Zakeria, we bought tickets with the Red Bus company and were told that we should go to the Information Centre at the Station and they would refund our Stromma tickets so long as they had not been scanned.
The tour went ahead but initially the driver forgot to switch on the Audio so we had to request that at the University stop. Then we found only one earpiece was working but we could still hear. We alighted at the Museums and when we went back to the stop to reboard, there were several people waiting. A bus appeared and they attempted to get on only to be told their tickets were for the Red Bus bus - and the driver of the Stromma bus said loudly that he was the genuine company and the other one was a fake. Confusing ? You bet - especially as the buses looked identical.
Finally I went to the information centre and told my story only to learn that, of course, they cannot refund the tickets because for one thing they did not sell them! They also told me that the two companies are privately owned.
We wasted 800NOK and I am sorry but this has put a very bad taste onto our impressions of Oslo. We always take the Hop on Hop off bus in each city we visit and have never had an experience like this.
My advice - BEWARE.

My wife and I were on a Baltic cruise and many cities were served by Stromma City Sightseeing buses. I spotted on the Stromma website that if you are doing multiple tours in different cities, if you keep your tickets, hand three tour tickets over and you get the fourth for free. So we paid for tickets (all bought online before leaving home at a discounted rate) for Oslo, Helsinki and Stockholm and got the fourth tour (in Copenhagen) for free, which meant the relatively high price of the tickets became much more reasonable.
The down side to using these buses is that you often lose time in your day waiting for the next bus, some of the services finish mid-afternoon, and to be honest you often have to get off the bus and walk to see the cities properly, but as a means of getting a flavour of a new city they are a handy way of getting an orientation and seeing some highlights. If we have time we usually do a complete circuit on the bus and then use the second circuit to get off at a few places that were on our to-see list. We planned our days in advance using the maps and timetables on the Stromma website and all worked out pretty well.

Having done numerous red bus tours around the world we were looking forward to seeing Oslo in this way. However, this trip was horrendous and doesn’t even warrant a one star rating. The buses were so overcrowded that my eight month old grandson got smacked in the face twice by people and their bags! My pregnant daughter had the rear doors shut on her twice and we all got pushed and shoved around. As for hearing the talk with the headphones, well that was impossible as there was no where to plug them in! We actually gave up on this tour and had to find our own way back to our starting point. The overcrowding on these buses were downright dangerous! I do not expect my grandson and daughter to be physically injured because of a tour!

What a waste of money this tour is.... Oslo is so small that we may have well have walked the area. And taken bus 30 to all the museums.
The bus driver if one of the 2 buses that were touring this day was really not enjoying his work; grumpy to the max. The lady on the other bus was very cheerful.
Still; save the bucks and huge your own 2 feet!

Man bekommt einen Eindruck von Oslo. Durch den Feiertag 1.Mai wurden einige Haltestellen in der Innenstadt nicht angefahren und die Busfrequenz war sehr unregelmäßig. Da wir rechtzeitig auf dem Schiff sein mussten, viel der Besuch vom Vigeland-Park leider ins Wasser.

Firstly the tour bus stops around Oslo are very difficult to find. When we spotted a bus, we just walked in that direction. And still were dumb-founded - no visible bus stop.
Finally caught up with a stationery bus only to be confronted by a very rude young man. To him I say - If you don't like PR jobs, go work in a warehouse! Very disappointing welcome to Norway. We didn't take the tour, so no idea whether it's worth the time/money.

We had a very bad experience with CitySightseeing in Oslo, which was surprising because we have used your hop-on hop-off service in many cities.
At first, the driver did not stop at the first stop and then pretended not to speak English when we asked him. Then, the outlets for the headphones on the whole right side of the bus were not working, and again our driver pretended not to speak English, so we missed a big part of the guided explanation of the city.
Lastly, a group of us were waiting at stop number 3 for more than 40 minutes and no buses stopped by. When we moved to stop 1 to ask what was going on, a CitySightseeing representative got ver angry at her manager for not telling her that stops 3 and 4 were closed and that nobody let her know. There wasn’t a sign telling tourists that those stops weren’t working either. She got in a very bad mood and spoke terribly to all of us.
Not to mention that it was close to 40 euros per person for the service.....

This is the best way to get an introduction to a city, or indeed to see it if you only have a short time there. We were lucky in that it was early June and the weather was incredibly and most unusually hot, 31 degrees. Oslo is a lovely city, especially when the sun is shining.
The tour is quite expensive, but then Norway is one of the most expensive countries in the world.
I don't know if everyone speaks English(like a native of the UK) but they probably do.
We always do the complete tour, then go round a second time and get off at places we want to have a look at, like Vigelandsparken with all its sculptures,Aker Brygge, with the quayside bars and indeed bars on boats, and the opera house where you can walk up the sloping roof, not to mention the Royal Palace and Karl Johans Gate with the park at the top end where an outdoor evening concert was being performed on our visit.
The tour is quite expensive, but then Norway is one of the most expensive countries in the world.
