I recently had a stay at Peniche Surf Camp which unfortunately was marred by an unfortunate incident. While the hostel is strategically located near excellent surfing areas and is staffed with knowledgeable personnel, my experience was tinged with disappointment due to an issue regarding security.
During my visit, a high-quality wetsuit I had rented was stolen from the communal terrace. The distress of losing such an expensive item, coupled with the inconvenience it caused, made a dent in my overall experience.
What left me more dismayed was the hostel's management's response to the incident. I felt that the lack of accountability and responsibility was deeply concerning. As guests, our trust in the establishment to safeguard our rented equipment, especially when we're out exploring the surf, is paramount.
This incident was a stark reminder of the importance of personal vigilance in communal spaces. I would, therefore, urge future guests at Peniche Surf Camp to be extra careful with their belongings and rented equipment. It's essential for the hostel's management to address this security issue to ensure a comfortable and safe environment for all guests.
While Peniche Surf Camp offers an excellent surfing experience, the incident left a bitter aftertaste. My word of caution to future travellers is this: Always ensure the safety of your rented equipment, as the communal spaces at the hostel might not be as secure as you'd expect.

Parents beware. DO NOT BOOK with this place. We made reservations from the US months in advance, arranged for a private driver to get us there, and they took our money and then said they didn't have our son's private lesson on the schedule. We traveled from the US for this reservation and they didn't have it. They put my teen son in a group class which was awful since he's a better surfer. Then the instructor left him behind at the beach. The entire group left and they abandoned my son. We had to find him and somewhere to drop off his board and walk him back to the office. Then the manager proceeded to waste our time with Joanna in arguing that they wouldn't give us a refund. My son was SO disappointed. This operation is a lesson in WORST business practices. Go to Blue Ocean at Ericeira World Reserve in Ribeira d'Ilhas and get a top notch experience. Peniche Surf School is UNSAFE and DANGEROUS.

Ехал специально покататься на сёрфе в ноябре, в холодный сезон - народу немного, волны шикарные!

I've taken a one-week course at this school in October 2019. It was quite a negative experience. The safety and technical training were very brief, and the instructors changed every day. I'd call it a blend of "for the record" and "throw into the water" approaches. My progress after 5 days was zero and I dropped out. I don't recommend this place if your intention is to receive proper surfing training, especially for beginners.

Après avoir vécu une très belle expérience en octobre 2018, nous avons décidé de faire à nouveau confiance à l’équipe du PSC afin de profiter des joies du surfcamp avec une vingtaine d’élèves (17-20 ans) d’une école professionnelle de Bienne.
Autant dire que nous avons à nouveau pas été déçu!
Dès le premier contact avec le PSC, on a tout de suite l’impression qu’ils sont prêts à tout mettre en oeuvre pour que l’on passe une très belle semaine.
Une fois arrivé sur place on a été pris en charge par des moniteurs très professionnels.
Motivants, donnant des bon conseils, amusants mais très sérieux lorsqu’il s’agit de sécurité.
L’hébergement est simple mais on trouve tout le confort nécessaire après une journée de surf.
La cuisine se donne énormément de peine afin de satisfaire tous les régimes alimentaire (végétarien, vegan,...) et nous avons eu bien assez à manger.
Le camp est très bien situé pour les différents spots de surf et pour les sorties à Baleal.
C’est sans hésitation que l’on repartirait pour de nouvelles aventures au Peniche surfcamp de Baleal.
Autant dire que nous avons à nouveau pas été déçu!

I was taking surf classes with them two years ago in September. The surf school is just amazing, everything perfectly organized, everyone perfectly nice, the place was perfect as well :) It was my first time and I had really a lot of fun. I am not an extremely sporty person, rather someone who agenda some fitness classes or yoga when he has time, sometimes tried to go out to fun, skies in the winter sometimes too but generally often doesnt do nothing at all. But it was not a problem, it turned out that surfing for the beginers means just that you have to be tough and energetic. You learn to standard on the board during one week and perhaps not much more but this is enough to feel amazing and have huge fun, more than during first climbing lessons even for example (to compare it with something). A theoretical class with Captain was really well thought (for some reason mainly Poles and Russian attended it - as the most curious of all the nations?:)). It answered to all the question that appeared in my head regarding sea and surfing and was 100 times better than Google. It was fun too, since everyone there is a fun person, it seems. (Also not too much fun, don’t worry, it was not a place with too miuch partying or anything like that; the balance was perfect too). My instructor was Kikko, in my subjective opinion the best one of all of them but also the single one I got to know really well, since most time in the water and on the beach was with him. he swims like a fish, it is amazing and recommended to see it as an attraction by itself. You attempt to do something with your surfboard and he just flies around you. the balance between Ireny and sincere devotion to what we did was another perfect element... Well, worth recommending, everyone should do something like this for himsefl. Why I still haven’t repeated it is a misterny for me, but I will certainly make up for this. Have fun in Baleal! PS For those who like to show their impressive looking sport achievements to the family and friends - when I was there the school cooperated with a very nice protographer (a blond blue eyed woman whose name i unfortunately forgot but I send her my regards) that was able to catch everyone in his best (and worst) moments and then you could purchase these really profesional pictures that certainly will be a wonderful souvenir, especially after many, many years... They also post very motivating pictures on their Instagram but I didn’t notice and expect any trace of pushyness regarding publication of your portretami o advertise the school which I appreciate. the board that they had were blue and beautiful, the wetsuits comfortable... English of the instructors was very good, I also heard Kikko teaching in Spanich. On the evenings they organise dinners with dancing, on the evenings some yoga classes etc, for those who want. The conditions when we were there were good the full two weeks. Last day there was some mini catastrophe of the sea planty appearing which was quite disgusting for me but like real sport people they continued the lessons and everyone trained also in such funny conditions, maybe I gave up only because on that day I was also quite tired (it was so much fun that I didnt do enough breaks).

We had a terrible experience with one of the instructors of this surf school a few days ago - an extremely aggressive and violent guy who even physically attacked my girlfriend at the parking lot by the surf beach! (I do not know his name, but had longer wanna-blond /bleached/ hair.) I do not know how these guys teach surfing, and it is always wrong to judge a whole company based on one negative experience with one single person, of course. On the other hand, if the company employes such people and tolerates this kind of behavior, it says something about them, as well...
My girlfriend was trying to keep "our" parking space since we needed to repark our camper to turn it 180'. Thus, I left the space (for 2 minutes max), drove around the parking lot and wanted to park the car back. In the meantime, this guy with Peniche Surf Camp branded car came and literally drove into my girlfriend(!) pushing her by his car out from the spot, even though she tried to explain him the situation and showed to him that I was already standing with our car right behind his one and intended to park (in fact, I gave him right of way several second before the incident...). He was immediately aggressive and attacked her verbally in an insulting way. Then he parked at the place ... wait, not at one space only, but he parked over two of them not even caring that this parking lot gets totally packed during a day and every space is precious for other people.
We did not want to escalate the conflict. I parked on another parking space thinking to myself "oh, poor boy, you have serious mental limitations and problems, if you need to prove something to yourself this way..." My girlfriend (indignant and frightened simultaneously) came to our newly parked car, as well. The incident seemed to be over. Also we got over it. But this appeared not to be yet the end! After the camp participants (guests of the surf camp) left the parking lot for the beach to learn surfing, this clown came to our car and attacked both of us again, provoked a fistfight with me, screamed aggressively and repeatedly pushed both of us - anybody who ever met some drunk "wannafight idiot" knows. What is alarming, however, is that he again physically attacked even the girl while threatening that he would "hit her down first"!!! Really?! I have to say that it was extremely challenging not to lose a nerve and not to fight back. Evidently, this blockhead has many personal issues and complexes which he tries to cover by "macho look":-) Although, this fact about "what is behind" does not detract anything from the unacceptability and potential danger of his aggressiveness (on the contrary, maybe ).
During the "discussion" we got extremely close to starting a fight. Well, it has to be said that I have been doing krav maga quite intensively for several years and the first rule learned within this combat system is to prevent violent conflict to the maximum extent possible - not to let emotions prevail. If we started the fight, the boy would probably end up seriously harmed (I would have to "eliminate" him completely since he tended to lose control over himself - in such a case there is no other option), I would end up arrested by the police and, thus, our holiday with my girlfriend would be totally ruined... So, only and only due to our calmness (and also us mentioning our willingness to call the police immediately) the incident vanished after a while. After he satisfied his ego and left, we instead went surfing and enjoying the waves:-)
During the "dialogue" we had (him screaming and me rather calming the situation) Mr. Instructor (working under a motto of the Peniche Surf Camp: "Your smile is our goal") let us know, for example, that he, in fact, hates tourists(!?) since they have more money and therefore behave like they can do anything in his country, and several other "pearls". Interesting approach from someone, whose work relies on tourism. "Funny" is that regardless of his open aggressivity it was me who stayed calm and kind all the time, considering, amongst other things, that we are the guests here and he is at home. Regardless of how idiotically he behaves. At the same time, we did not want to bother ourselves more than necessary with this looser and to spoil our beautiful surf day at a beach.
Although, I think it is important to let other people know. Such aggressive and violent behavior should not be tolerated, even less supported. This is a task for Peniche Surf Camp, should they want to keep any good reputation. Greetings to all other people we met during a perfect stay and surf sessions in Portugal! All, apart from this particular experience, were great, including other local surfers.

Esperienza fantastica al Peniche Surfcamp, struttura attrezzata con tutto quello che serve, ragazzi e ragazze da tutto il mondo, istruttori top e tante tante onde da surfare! Ci tornerò sicuramente!
