I was here 50 years ago. The island has been spoilt by commercialisation. The facilities are poor. Bird life was wonderful. A couple of nice beach areas. The glass bottom boat tour was good, a lot of fish that follow the boat ( They get fed ) . Most of the coral appeared dead.
It’s a 50/50 would I bother or not.

Unfortunately the weather was unfavourable. Very windy & rainy. The boat ride across to the island was very bumpy & lots of people with sea sickness.
Maybe should consider in this weather whether the tour should go ahead. Once on the island the glass bottom boat & the semi submerged tours were disappointing as the water clarity was cloudy due to the weather.

Sadly it was a windy day and it was hard to swim and snorkel in the wind, but we were out there long enough to see a few colorful fish and bright blue star fish! Still a good day

Be careful when you book through TripAdvisor.
I booked tickets through TripAdvisor and because of the lack of communication between the tour operator and TripAdvisor I had to pay extra 30 AUD per person to get snorkelling gears . Which if I had booked through operator website I would have get them for free.
The island itself and the tour was fine and interesting, but the fact that i had to pay extra for otherwise free options made my experience awful.
And even worse is that you can't communicate with TripAdvisor( No emails no costumer service) and tour Operator doesn't take responsibility for this miscommunication.

Semi-submersible boat was fantastic. Crew on the island very friendly, crew on the boat no where near as friendly. Overall a great day out on the reef.

It was an exhilarating trip from we got on the Big Cat to our return. We snorkeled, we did the submersible and we had the lovely buffet. For two teachers visiting from New York, it was an amazing experience. We definitely would recommend it

Spent the day on Green Island , May have been the time of year we went , but we found it a bit disappointing , there was only one restaurant opened , a takeaway hub and drinks bar beside the pool . As my husband doesn’t swim there is not a lot to do , we did the boardwalk around the island several times , we thought we could go and see the crocodile show in our reef package but we needed to pay to do that . There was only one gift/ souvenir shop , which was also the dive shop and they had very little souvenirs .

This day trip was incredible!! The snorkelling is a must as it was absolutely stunning to see so much sealife just off the beach!
The boat trip was short and calm, the island itself was gorgeous and lunch provided on board was very good! Most noticeably, the service from staff was fantastic! Everyone was friendly and helpful.
We were lucky enough to see such a wide variety of fish, coral and other sealife. Another great part of the trip was seeing the crocodile sanctuary that is on green island which was amazing!
One of the best day trips and snorkelling trips I have ever done !

We took the full day trip with semi sub, glass bottom boat and buffet lunch and are so glad we did.
The day started with complimentary tea and coffee on board. Smooth crossing to Green Island followed straight away with the glass bottom boat then semi sub rides. Unfortunately the water was cloudy following storms and that combined with high tide made it little difficult to see the coral clearly. Loads of fish came close up as did a sea turtle and we had a quick glance of a reef shark. Staff fed the fish off both sides of the glass bottom boat and also from the rear of the Big Cat just before setting off back to Cairns.
Buffet lunch was delicious. Full spread, cold meats, chicken wings, prawns, salad ,slaw, bread buns, mixed fresh fruit and something else that we didn’t try. On the hot side there was pasta & meatballs and rice & chicken n veg curry. Unlimited returns to the buffet included made for an exceptional lunch. Drinks can be bought onboard at reasonable prices. There are food outlets on the island but when you can have a spread like this onboard, why bother eating elsewhere.
Pleasant walk round the island takes about half an hour. One beach is patrolled by lifeguards.
We didn’t take up the snorkelling option but did go for a swim.
Well organised, friendly, approachable staff made for a great day out. Thank you.

One young Oz guy was very friendly and nice. But rest of the crews don't really care about the small group of tourists. All they care is the big Indian group. They told us nothing about where to get off when it was arrived to the Green Island. We were waiting for 10 minutes until we realised that we were supposed to get off by other gate. And somehow I got a s stringer suit but I am 175 cm high..... I wasn't able to wear the suit which stoped me to do snorkeling. The other staffs are very cold as well, only care about their country man/woman. Didn't show any welcome or friendly attitude to us at all.

if you choose to leave cairns for green island at either 9 am or 11am cruise what time will you be returning back to cairns?

You can choose which ever extras you want while you are on your way to the island. So yes. You can choose the glass bottom.

Hi,
Sea walking activity s not included. You need to book it. Once you board the boat for Green island, they share information about different activities and respective rates. You then need to book yourself for the activities you are interested in. Also you need to fill up the form for all underwater activities. This is for them to confirm that you are medically fit to be underwater.
I was not allowed to take any underwater activity (scuba, sea walking or under water scooter) due to high blood pressure.
The 9:00 semi-submarine tour listed for $118: does it include the round trip ferry to Green island? What’s the time table of the tour, it says tour is 30minutes? What’s the returning time from green island? Can different people in the group choose different activities?

I think the semi-submersible includes the return ferry cost. There are a range of options for the Day/half day trips for when you get to the Island - semi-submersible, glass-bottomed boat, and snorkelling. I suspect you could book more than one option on the full day trip, but possibly not the half day. Check online.

We had taken a combined tour of Green Island and a Great Barrier Reef. Semi submersible tour was included along with the cruise
However it did not have glass boat tour included
If you are booking for your parents and if they are not keen on underwater activities then book a cruise which includes glass boat tour ( taking to outer reef)
