Highly recommended experience. There were 17 people on our trip & 4 staff and there was still plenty of space on the boat. The included guided snorkelling tours were excellent - we saw a turtle, reef sharks, Nemo and plenty of other animals! We also decided to try scuba diving for the first time and our guides were so knowledgeable and made the whole experience feel safe and easy. Thank you again for the amazing day out on the reef!

We had a great day out with Reef Daytripper. The weather was not the best but the crew made it a great day out. If the weather had been good I would have rated it 6 stars. The only room for improvement would be the lunch, it was nice enough but some of the salads were not the best. We still would do it again regardless.

This was a fantastically fun and very well organised trip. The crew were great, safe, explanatory, very patient with new snorkellers, and guided you round the reef pointing out things they spotted. Like (friendly!) sharks. The safety briefings were thorough and clear. They insisted people wore sting suits. No sting suit, no snorkelling. They stopped some people diving because they did not have the correct paperwork, as opposed to turning a blind eye. Food good. They catered for gluten free and veggie. And most amazingly they had prescription goggles which were better than my glasses! (I’d thought I would put my glasses under the goggles but they don’t fit.) It’s a small catamaran which was great, only 18 people, and we felt like a team, everyone was chatting and friendly with each other. We all
Agreed a big boat would not have been as good. Fab day out - would totally recommend! My only suggestion to the crew is to please talk a bit slower and more loudly when doing the briefings, because one guy was hard to hear and I have extremely good hearing.

We had researched trips to the Great Barrier Reef. This has surpassed our expectations. It was an amazing trip with this company. We were 18 and received personal care and knowledgeable information about the marine life on the Reef. We had a delicious lunch including wine after we snorkelled. I was apprehensive about snorkelling due to medical reasons and Sam could not have been more considerate and helpful. The whole team Michaela, Gabrielle and Sam were absolutely fantastic. Sam was our guide in the water and he was so knowledgeable and attentive. We saw turtles, many varieties of fish and a massive clam. Thank you. It has made our trip to Australia.

We were expecting a windy, overcast day. Instead we got a calm, sunny day and the reef did NOT disappoint. Mikayla, our captain, and Julian & Gabriel we’re great hosts on the boat. We went to two places, fairly close to each other. The first spot Gabe was a snorkel guide and showed us so many things…green turtle, reef shark, rays, giant clams, sea cucumber and soooo many kinds of fish!
After a great lunch of cold cuts, chicken legs, a couple different salads, bread, we went in at
the second spot. This time we just snorkeled off on our own (by choice) and saw all the same creatures we saw the first time. At one point we just floated and we’re surrounded by hundreds of fish - too many different kind to count.
It was amazing!
The ride home was about 2 hours. We had some wine, fruit and cheese & crackers. It was by far our best adventure in Cairns.
Don’t hesitate to book with the Reef Daytripper- you won’t be disappointed!

A 7:30 start for our snorkelling trip to the Great Barrier Reef felt slightly anti-social, which was added to by the positively Biblical nature of the rain storm going on. In fact we even called to check it would still go ahead!
We were greeted at the boat by three very friendly young-ish crew. Disclaimer forms completed, a safety briefing was given as we headed out of the harbour - coffee, tea and Danish pastries were available for those who fancied them.
Once we exited the harbour, the state of the weather became really clear - we were in for a rough ride for the two hours it takes to get out to the reef on this particular vessel. Happily, we’d both taken motion sickness tablets so we were in reasonable shape - others clearly hadn’t, and weren’t.
The boat takes a maximum of 20 guests; there were thirteen of us on board (excluding crew) for this trip, and I think 20 would have been very cramped in the covered area. On a nicer day, I am sure some would have decamped to the netted area between the hulls at the front of the catamaran.
About 20 minutes before the first snorkel, we were fitted for fins and “stinger” suits - mandatory at this time of year. We both have our own masks and snorkels, but the ones handed out looked to be of decent quality.
In the water, the two snorkel-guide crew gave as much help as they could getting everyone in and stable, additional buoyancy being given using “pool noodles”. It was at this point the weather became a proper issue; waves were a good 2-3ft high over the reef, with a strong current running.
The instruction was given to go only out in front of the boat, which made perfect sense. I’m not massively fit or a great swimmer, but the conditions made it extremely hard work, which is unlike any other snorkel trip we’ve been on before. In addition the water was very turbid - I’d guess lateral viz at no more than 20m, which meant keeping in touch with the group was more than a challenge than you’d expect.
We saw a decent variety of fish, but nothing exceptional, and not the shark, stingray and squid that others saw. After an hour, we’d had enough so finned back to the boat; again the weather was making it quite a challenge to get back on board.
Once everyone was back aboard, lunch was served. Cold meats, potato and pasta salads, salad leaves, chicken legs, bread. Just what was needed, really. Soft drinks are available, at A.$2 per can, and plenty of free water. There was more than enough food for the group with plenty left over.
After lunch, a quick motor to the second location and a repeat experience on the snorkelling. This time we saw quite a bit more as the reef was slightly shallower, therefor the visibility wasn't such an issue. By the end however, the weather was turning quite bad - a heavy squall, and my husband managed to crash and burn when getting back on the boat. Happily a crew member was on hand to help him out of my predicament. If you were very fit/experienced you could have stayed out for 90 minutes at each location.
All back on board and the lengthy return journey began; this boat is one of the slower ones here. The trip back was punctuated by a glass of wine, some very welcome fresh fruit (pineapple, melon, watermelon, grapes, oranges), and as we got to calmer waters 30 minutes from dock, cheese and biscuits.
I was very glad to get back on dry land, since it felt like the effect of the motion sickness tablet had worn off.
I think on a calmer day, with sunshine and less wind, this trip would be absolutely excellent; the crew were all top notch, very friendly, helpful and clearly safety conscious. It was a shame that we had a rotten dull rainy overcast day, but you certainly can’t blame the company or crew for that. Would love to go back on a nicer day!

I had a really good experience with this trip. I was looking for a trip with a smaller number of people, with good snorkeling locations. I wanted to snorkel somewhere without a lot of people and I didn’t want to go to a pontoon.
This trip was exactly that. We were about 13 people on the boat. Everyone did snorkelling at the first stop, where you could either go off on your own or swim along with one of the crew. He had some good facts about what we were seeing and his enthusiasm for the reef showed.
At the second stop I went for the introductory scuba dive. I was the only one and had a great dive with the instructor.
The captain (and boat owner I think) and the crew were nice and friendly. The other people on the trip where a mix of families, couples and single travelers.

Hoping for a trip to the reef on October 4 with my son who is vegetarian. Would your buffet accommodate this?

Yes. I don't eat meat myself. Pastries in the morning, pumpkin soup to warm up post snorkeling, salads at lunch with a meat platter for those who wanted it, cheese platter and fruit and biccies in the afternoon.

Hello there. I had reserved a spot on this cruise/ day trip for the 30th June and I was told it was confirmed. However, now, upon checkout, it says it’s no longer available even though I had reserved? Can you please please please allow me my spot please. I would be very grateful and this organisation and experience seems the best incomparably.

Hello there,
I am thinking of booking for the 30th June 2022.
Firstly, is scuba diving option available.
And is hotel pickup/ drop off available?
Thank you!
Geoff
3 bidrag
Yes and yes. There is an extra charge for both. The scuba option can be purchased on the boat. The hotel pickup is coordinated with the boat so if there an unexpected delay they will wait.

Hi there - just to clarify - do you only go to the inner reef or to the outer reef? The description says outer reef but one of the reviews says inner reef so it is confusing. Also is there a difference in what marine life & the amount of marine life you will see at the outer reef compared to the inner reef? Thanks.
Margaret J
England, UK44 bidrag
Outer reef, inner reef... not sure, but what I do know, is that because it is a small group, we felt that we were at one with nature. We were away from the other boats, rather than crowded out by a 100 or so other divers, who must appear like a swarm in the water from the larger crafts.
On the day we went, even just snorkling, we saw lots of beautifully coloured fish, a reef shark, a mantaray, sea cucumbers, starfish, clams, coral etc.
Because it was a small group, we all got to chat, and it was exciting sharing other people's sightings.
The captain and the crew were all knowledgeable about the reef life, and provided us with reference charts.
It was obvious that they regarded the reef as a special environment, not just a money earner, and a place that we should all respect, appreciate, and delight in.

Hi,
Please advise the size of the boat?
Thank you.

Not sure about actual size, but plenty big enough for the 18 passengers and 4 crew. There is lots of great outside space, plus the shaded cabin, with enough seating for all.

Hi there,
is snorkling gear included and are there any extra costs if we would like to do scuba diving (it would be our first scuba dive).
Kind regards,
