We did the breakfast with the birds on our visit. What an experience. Up close with some beautiful birds and the breakfast was very good. Once inside the setting the varied areas they have was a great way to spend a morning or longer if you would like.

We went three times to this amazing place. When you buy your ticket, it gives you re entry over five days, so of course we had to go back! It is beautifully set out, and it’s wonderful to see the animals in their natural habitat. I could have stayed all day watching the quails and finches in the first enclosure! The cafe was so inviting, and loved that we got to meet the black cockatoo as we were having lunch. I can’t speak more highly of this amazing place!

We had a great morning at this park. We got there early, giving us the opportunity to see some of the animals and birds before it got too busy. As it turned out we could have gone a little later as it never got very crowded.
The koalas were awake and we really enjoyed walking around the aviaries. There was an added bonus of being joined by Max, a large black parrot. He jumped on my shoulder and enjoyed the tour with me.
We passed him onto another guest before heading to feed the kangaroos. Bags of pellets are sold for $2 for you to feed them by hand. This was a real treat, walking amongst them and then watching them have their proper breakfast. It’s a bit of a scrum, surrounded by kangaroos, but we loved it.
There are plenty of birds and animals to see, including wild visitors. We saw a couple of kookaburras and several lizards.
We went for a coffee and cake, to be joined by Max again. As soon as we sat down he flew over and sat on our shoulders. He spent half and hour with us while we enjoyed our coffee break. He is very friendly and really put the icing on the cake, excuse the pun, of our visit.
We could have stayed longer to watch a couple of talks and demonstrations but we felt 3/4 hours was about right.
A small but very well thought out and well managed attraction. Great for families but we thoroughly enjoyed it as a couple as well.

A great way to see many local animals without having to go searching. While we didn’t really partake in the organise activities, we were able to see some local wildlife with ease. The birds are all beautiful with feathers of all colours, and even the crocs are amazing to see up close. Feeding the marsupials was another experience that many places don’t allow.

We spent an amazing 4 hours at the Wildlife Habitat; we would have spent longer but we had to be kindly ushered out when it was closing time! An amazing place to introduce yourself to some of Australia's unique wildlife. Loved the wide arrange of bird species, many of which you could get up close and personal with. The kangaroos and wallabies were delightful and seemed to appreciate a pat and a scratch. A great place to visit and thoroughly recommend it.

Spontaneous visit but definitely didn’t disappoint, this place is a must if you are a bird lover as the birds are so beautiful and friendly and love to just fly up onto your shoulder and aren’t in any hurry to fly away! The reptile show was extremely informative and my husband even loved the croc swim encounter experience, he said it was an experience he will never forget.

These zoos are from a bygone era. Birds and animals locked in cages. Kids don't let your parents take you here. At least Hartley's has more outdoors, and crocs swimming in a huge pond. Or go to Mossman Gorge and see real animals in the wild. Or just walk around Port Douglas and see half the birds that are stuck in cages. I agree with another comment below. Smelly. Expensive. It's not Wildlife Habitat, it's a Wildlife Jail. The carers are well intentioned but there are other jobs to do instead of managing birds in a jail.

We are sorry to hear that you were disappointed with your experience. At Wildlife Habitat we have created spacious environments, including Wetlands, Rainforest, Savannah, Nocturnal and Woodlands. Wildlife can roam free in these environments. When it is deemed unsafe for an animal to roam free they are provided with exhibit enclosures that are significantly larger than the government stipulated minimum requirement.
Our motto is "observation, appreciation, and conservation", and we strive to educate our visitors about the importance of wildlife conservation and the impact of our daily actions on the environment.
As part of our commitment to conservation, Wildlife Habitat Port Douglas is also home to an on-site care centre for the Tropical Animal Rehabilitation Centre. This centre provides care and rehabilitation for injured, sick, orphaned, and displaced native wildlife, and our visitors can learn about this important work during their visit.

On our last full day in Port Douglas we visited the Wildlife Habitat. We loved the close proximity to the wildlife, from birds flying around us, crocs swimming under us, to kangaroos eating from hands holding prescribed food, and a quick photo-op cuddle with a koala, there’s something for everyone here (for kids from 2 to 92)!

they could refresh the water source at the very least... a tree kangaroo in a small pen??? bordering animal cruelty.. not to mention the poor croc... never again...the place smells and is unkempt...

Hi, we are sorry to hear that we did not meet your expectations. Wildlife Habitat Port Douglas takes great care in providing the best welfare opportunities for all of its wildlife. The animals have enclosures that are significantly larger than the government stipulated minimum requirement. We provide naturalistic facilities to be able to replicate their natural habitat and to enhance the welfare of each animal. By providing naturalistic exhibits, food, plants and enrichment items, this stimulates the animals activity and provides a much greater positive welfare. We believe in “through observation- appreciation, through appreciation – conservation” and our animal presentations, signage and exhibits all provide opportunities for guests to garner a greater understanding and appreciation for the species we are fortunate to be surrounded by.

How close to the town of Port Douglas is this? Is it walkable from the cruise ship?

Hi, Arietta. I'm sorry I can't answer this question. We were in Port Douglas for only two days so am not really familiar with the area. We stayed in a motel close to downtown Port Douglas and had to drive to the Wildlife Habitat. If you do get there I hope you enjoy it more than we did.
