My husband and I really enjoyed this tour. We were met at the ship by Dennis, who was both our driver and tour guide. He was very friendly, easy going and engaging. The coach was very comfortable and was exactly as described on Trip Advisor. Dennis took an interest in all of the passengers on his tour. He was very informative about all of the landmarks we went to. The tour was not rushed and there was plenty of time to take photos and have a chat. Dennis provided us with a very extensive tour of Wellington. We would definitely recommend this tour and Dennis to anyone wanting to get the most out of their day in Wellington.

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed this tour which was particularly aimed at cruise passengers who have limited time, to get an excellent overview of the Capital City of New Zealand. Some of the highlights included the Mt Victoria lookout for photo opportunities, a visit to the Weta Cave for some fun photos, drive along the scenic coastline and other City iconic landmarks and a ride in the Wellington Cable Car.
As described on TripAdvisor, this was a tour for up to 30 people. The medium-sized bus was very comfortable with large windows offering excellent vision. Dennis our tour driver met our group at the ship so there was no need to catch a shuttle bus into the city and at the conclusion of the tour we were returned to the Port.
Dennis was a great guy, very professional and a fabulous tour guide/driver. After first meeting him, we felt confident we were in good hands for a great day ahead. He went above and beyond to ensure we got the most out of our tour and was keen to answer any questions we may have. He had a wealth of knowledge about Wellington and ensured we had plenty of time for photo opportunities.

A fantastic tour and experience with Nicole. Nicole was fantastic. Has a wealth of knowledge of Wellington. Was helpful, obliging and humorous. Although Richard, the tour operator, may need an extra hand with his admin He was also obliging when he fixed his keyboard mistake changing the number 2 to a number 4 without hesitation. Well done Rich!

We were with Richard today in Wellington and it was raining so he reversed the tour and drove us around the edge of the beach and allowed us to shop at a souvenir shop and the Weta Cave store until the weather cleared, After the weather cleared, he took us to a lookout above the city and then dropped us off at the Tram to go to the top. Then drive through the Botanical Garden and then the Museum. Richard was an excellent bus driver and tour guide and we highly recommend this tour.

Nicole our tour guide was informative and made us all feel very comfortable. Her humour and local knowledge were a fantastic bonus. She kept us interested and laughing the whole time.

Good to know Nicole gave another great tour for us. Our apologies if we were late in your email replies; this whole season has pretty much gone stratospheric for us right from October, and we acknowledge that at times we have struggled to answer straight away.

This Wellington city tour was excellent. Not only did we cover a lot of city highlights in just a few hours but we were fortunate to have Danny as our driver and guide. Danny used to be a professional driver for the government which means not only is he an excellent driver, he adds a lot of additional information that other drivers were not be aware of. He is also super friendly and customer service focused

What an excellent tour. Our driver/guide was full of interesting information about Wellington and NZ in general. The tour took in all the key locations many of which we would not have seen by ourselves - the views from the top of the hill were fabulous

Be warned about committing to a future event whereby you give over your credit card details. Yes, you can cancel up until a couple of days ahead of the event without cost, but should there be changes beyond your control, you may be like me and get charged for an event that you failed to attend.
My cruise ship company gave me 24 hours notice that my ship would not be heading to New Zealand. I phoned, but they were too busy to take my call.
Once back home, and to the credit of Tripadvisor, my case was reviewed resulting in an immediate refund.

I feel your review is harsh, as it is actually placed on our Xplor Tours review page, so we now have the low rating you have given us. Viator take your credit card details and payment, and do not reimburse Xplor Tours (minus Viator's percentage) until a tour has actually taken place. We never ask for or receive credit card details for bookings. We are paid by Viator. We have approved all late refund requests from our Queen Elizabeth customers, as their ship cancelled its berth in Wellington. If a ship fails to berth for whatever reason, we refund all requests, no matter how far past the 24-hour cancellation window they may be. We approved your refund request as soon as it came through to us on Viator weeks after your tour date. I hope you understand our disappointment with this review.

Dean, our tour guide did a great job of explaining Wellington highlights. He also drove me to a location I wanted and explained how to get back to the cruise ship. Couldn't say enough about how his funny stories enhanced the trip.

Hi! I'm interested in booking this tour in July. I noticed the start time is available and reading the comments, some people say it starts at 10:30am and I also saw a 1:30pm tour as well. Is that right? If not, what are the tour start times? Thanks!

We did a half day tour and arrived via cruise ship in the morning. Richard picked us up according to the docking time. (About 9.30am). You can email him on richard@xplortours.nz
I’m sure he can advise approx pickup times from hotels. Cheers

Hello, I would book a city tour that includes the cable care ticket. That way you avoid the long lines to use it. Because your guide takes you to the top of the line. Thru Viator we chose the Wellington Sightseeing tour. Xplore were excellent and are operated by Richard and his team. The small group tour cost $93.00 per person. The vehicle was brand new and he knows his city well. We saw and learnt about a lot and then he dropped us in the city. The ships operate shuttles so, getting back on time was easy. He offers morning or afternoon tours. They pick up FROM THE SHIP, 1 hour after you dock. Time spent at the WAKA studio was short but it was not of much interest to us. If you are then choose a tour that spends more time their. Deb Cook

Hi, We (husband, 12 yo daughter and myself) will be arriving in Wellington on 11th December 2019. Our cruise ship arrival says 7am and departure 2pm. I see that your tour starts at 10.30am and goes for 3 hours and 20 mins. This wouldn't allow time to get back on the ship. Do you do earlier times for your tours on Cruise days? I love this tour and have read the reviews and it sounds amazing. Thanks Tanya

Not true! They will and did pick us up from the cruise terminal. Contacting Richard direct is the way to go and using cruise critic roll call is a good idea to help share the cost.

Hi Richard, we are looking to book the tour for tomorrow afternoon. My husband has a fold up portable mobility scooter and wanted to check if it is possible to take this with us? Alternatively, he is restricted in the distance he can walk, so would the tour be suitable for him?

No its not a hop on hop of tour but he stops at plenty of places for you to have a look around. Great tour guide and lots of fun well worth doing to get an overall gist of wellington.
