Loved the experience. But I would give it a 4 star just because there was a bit of a walk from the car park to the cruise ship, we almost missed the trip. Secondly, the lady on the counter forgot to give us the lunch voucher. The team in the boat mentioned my trip did not include lunch and asked to check with the main counter, where they later clarified I had paid for lunch. But overall, it was a good experience.

day was perfect.. weather.. conditions.. cruise and staff.. lunch was ok.. we had the buffet..felt it quite pricy i thought for the quality and options.. the fruit pineapple and kiwi fruit and lamington slices all gone by the time we had eaten and ready for some sweets.. but overall food was tasty..

A beautiful trip around the fjord. The cruise was relaxing, not hurried and leaving at 10.30 meant we were 30mins earlier than 2 or 3 other cruises. This meant there were no other cruises around which added to the atmosphere. (Of course we saw other cruises on the return journey.) The stops at waterfalls allowed plenty of time to enjoy the sights and grab plenty of photos. I appreciated the tea and coffee - always good when the weather is a bit cool. The cruise is worth the 2 hours drive from Te Anua - 2 hours allows for icy roads and time to enjoy the beautiful landscape along the way. If you have any questions about tickets, booking conditions etc, the company are very quick to respond - great customer service.

Milford sound was absolutely phenomenal, with mist shrouded mountains covered in waterfalls, viewing seals and dolphins. Our cataraman captain manuvered right up to the base of one large waterfall for a closeup experience. Great crew! Our coach driver, Shailendra, was witty and informative, making the long bus ride from Queenstown an enjoyable learning experience, including stories about the area's flora, fauna, and history. Thank you!

Milford Sound is a must see and we took the coach from Queenstown with the scenic cruise and coach return. The drive is circa 4 1/2 hours, but I would recommend it on the way to Milford Sound as the sites are amazing and you have a few stop off points. Once at the Sound the boarding of the boat was a bit chaotic with various coach groups trying to get on board and grab seats for lunch. We didn't have the buffet lunch and looking at the queue and choices think this was a good idea - we just grabbed some (overpriced) sandwiches and crisps. Once out the Sound is incredible and most people were on the uncovered top deck for the views. We were advised to have waterproof coats, insect repellant (for the sand flies) and sun block. We were lucky and only needed the last item as the weather was perfect and we were insect free. The down side of the trip was the coach ride back to Queenstown as the 4 1/2 hours at the end of the day seems to take forever. If it is in your budget I would recommend flying back to Queenstown and it seems to average $450

Riding in a bus from Queenstown to Milford sound takes approximately five hours each way. Our driver, Brad, made stops along the way for refreshments, etc. Brad also has a wealth of information about the area while en route to the sound, he shared that information with us. He was extremely knowledgeable and entertaining, he made the trip special.

Straightforward process, booking via Tripadvisor. Instructions were spot on, easy to follow. Make sure you allow enough time to get from Te Anau to Milford. Remember other cars/tourists will also be on the road (between you and your destination)... sometimes slow buses and campervans. There's also a tunnel that only lets one side of traffic through at a time (controlled by traffic signals)... nothing major, but all these things add up if you're the type that's running late.
Anyways, the cruise itself was absolutely stunning! Summer time meant we saw the fiord on a hot day, blue skies, dolphins and good company. Would definitely come back on a rainy day to see all the waterfalls in action :)

Amazing place, takes nearly 5 hours bus trip from Queenstown , there is an option to fly back , had the picnic lunch on board , it had rained so all the waterfalls all around were flowing

The tour itself was great! Beautiful views and friendly, knowledgeable operators. Picnic lunch was mediocre at best, but nothing offensive. However my tour had to be adjusted because I booked a tour involving a visit to the underwater observatory, which was unavailable due to weather damage. This was fine, I completely understand that it was out of Southern Discovery's control. But when I was notified via email, I was told only that the observatory was unavailable, and that I should expect future information for any changes. I never received any further communication, so I assumed the departure information was the same and that presumably we would return earlier. Instead, upon arrival, I found out that I had been rescheduled on another tour that left over an hour later, so I had to wait around for over an hour for my new tour. It was definitely a subpar experience that I was not notified of the scheduling change.

Wonderful day spent out on the boat, very informative captain about the sounds. Lunch was a delicious fresh sandwich with fruit , cheese and crackers , chips, cookies and a chocolate.
Absolutely amazing views and photo opportunities , loved every minute of this activity.

What happens if the road to Milford Sound is closed for the day? If someone can't stay till the next day, do they get a full refund?
