Book this tour directly thru Capt Jacks NOT Trip Advisor who charges $120 each (tax included). Capt Jacks price for same tour is $95 each plus tax....$36 dollars cheaper for two tickets after taxes. Trip Advisor refuses to honor their "lowest price guarantee" after numerous email exchanges.
I will never use Trip Advisor ever again.
As per the trip, pretty average. A bit crowded - 15 people- saw some monkeys, birds and a couple manatees. Lunch was pretty bad....fried fish was cold / tough.
Bright spot was Doyle the guide who was super . Trip Advisor response to my requests to honor their lowest price guarantee really soured me on this experience

Loved my Monkey River tour! Our guides Doyle and his son, Doyle Jr were friendly and so knowledgeable of the local fauna and flora. I saw monkeys, manatees, iguanas, a variety of birds and some bats. The crocs wouldn’t show up for us that day. Lunch was good, but the tour organizer could stand out by offering something different than stewed chicken with rice and beans, since all tours offered the same. This tour is a must!

This is a reputable company that takes the safety of its clients seriously. I was very impressed that our captain called off our snorkelling trip while we were around 20 minutes out on the boat when the waves were getting really rough. We could have been with someone who wanted the money and kept going but they took us back and gave us a full refund.
We used them on another day for the Monkey River Tour, the guide was amazing and we had a great time! I recommend closed-toed shoes for this, but shorts/t-shirts with bug spray were fine.

Went with Doyle. Amazing and what a great day.
30+ minute boat ride to monkey river, quick stop at village to put in food order then 30 minute ride thru mangroves to see wildlife. Beautiful setting and some good bird watching. Doyle very knowledgeable..
Pulled up to trailhead about 45 minutes jungle trek. With no guarantees, we didn't see any monkeys for the 1st 30+ minutes BUT we could hear a group of howlers fighting and we tracked them. The sound is so undescribably amazing, intense, awesome. So so so loud, and so amazing. Then finally caught a glimpse of 1 howler for a few minutes. It was such a great experience and Doyle worked HARD to track them.
Back to boat for quick spot of sleeping crocodile, how he spotted him I'll never know.
Quick lunch back at the village. Chicken. Rice. Beans. Belikin. Marie Sharp's. In a super authentic setting, couldn't ask for more. Some trinkets for sale to help the local community.
Ride home with quick stop to see manatees. Kinda boring after the howlers but still fun.

Terry our tour guide did everything he could to make sure we saw the Howler monkeys as well as the manatees. He was very informative about the plants and wildlife of the area

We had 2 great experiences with this company.
Our guides were fantastic for both Monkey River and a snorkeling/diving day. Our guides clearly knew their material and shared a lot of knowledge. They were patient at locating wildlife - on the Monkey River cruise, Captain Doyle worked hard to find a manatee and helped get us comfortable with the boat so we were able to go alongside it for close-ups. It was fantastic! We went on a snorkeling and diving day with another crew and we were pleased that it was a small group, and the snorkeling guide was very supportive of one of our members, who was not a swimmer, and made her feel comfortable snorkeling around the reef. Mario, or SuperMario as we called him, was an exceptional diving guide. Everyone was truly fantastic!

We had a great time doing Monkey River with Percy. Very knowledgeable and entertaining. We saw howling monkeys, crocodiles, woodpecker, termites, herons - other birds and numerous other things. Excellent tour.

This company is wonderful! We booked Monkey River Cruise, snorkeling day & tubing.
Monkey River tour: Our guide, Captain Doyle was wonderful! He has so much to share about the area, the animals and the food. Our trek through the jungle to hear the howler monkeys was so fun! He actually found manatees for us to see, even though we only saw their tails and behinds going under the entire boat was excited!
Snorkeling day: WOW! I had my new prescription goggles for this trip and our guide, Henry was perfect! This young man share so many interesting sea creatures and fish names as well as making sure we were safe. Being in our 70s we aren’t strong swimmers but he kept a close eye on us and helped me get back to the island when the winds and waves kicked up. He told us stories of growing up and shared his educational background which he excelled at! This is one great employee to have with your company.
Tubing through caves: our last adventure in Placencia and it rocked! Our guide, Basilio made this adventure amazing. His knowledge and his fun personality really had us going.
A huge thank you to Doyle, Henry and Basilio for making my 70th Birthday adventures PERFECT!
We have plans to return with our adult children and grandchildren now and will definitely book though this company & not just because of the trips but the staff!

I actually did 3 trips with Captain Jaks - the Monkey River, Cockscomb Wildlife Preserve, and a day on the flats flyfishing. We had a less than pleasurable experience with our flyfishing outing and after a discussion with Captain Jaks they immediately tooks steps to make it right for us. We realize not all goes perfect but the response to what happens when things don't go well is what I noticed most about Captain Jaks. They were focused on our experienced while in Belize, and kept that front and center in taking care of us. One note for others - do your homework and ask plenty of questions to prepare for your outings to get the most out of them.
When returning to Belize, we will do business again with Captain Jaks. If all small businesses had this level of customer focus the world would be a better place.

Excellent excursion! Doyle, our guide, grew up in the little village of Monkey River so his knowledge was invaluable. Wonderful boat ride to the Monkey River. Doyle pointed out the various wildlife to us...birds, crocodiles, etc. The little village of Monkey River provided the most wonderful Belizean lunch of chicken and rice and beans and there were handmade items that could be purchase. The walk through the jungle was interesting (and hot) and we did see a few monkeys so that was very special. On the way home Doyle spotted manatees so we stopped to watch these gentle giants in the water. Highly recommend this tour!
