April is not the best month to take this tour

The crew was professional and knowledgeable but as most things in life, timing is everything! We went the second week of April knowing that is the very end of whale season. While we finally did see glimpses of a few, it was nothing like you would experience in January.

The facts and history were very interesting as I forgot much of that from last time. As long as you go in with the proper expectations, it is a worthwhile trip.

Thank you so much for coming out with us whale watching and providing your honest assessment of the experience. It is true that January through March is the prime whale watching season in Maui, and we end the season in Ma'alaea on April 15th, we still want to offer the experience to see these amazing giants of the sea in April for those interested and here in April. We thank you for your continued support and will hope to see you out with us again when there are more humpback whales here.

Whale soup!
My husband and I had a fabulous experience. We saw loads of whales, one swam right under our boat. We had a trio, mother, baby, and male escort, hang around us for a bit and yu could hear the escort's whale song above the water. It was magical! All of the staff were attentive and informative, and the captain had a great sense of humor. We highly recommend this organization, and we will be coming back with the rest of our family!

Wished we could've have gone.

Due to highwinds our trip was cancelled. Because we were leaving in 2 days, we were unable to reschedule. THey did give us a refund.

We're sorry that Mother Nature made for an unsafe experience and cancellation. Passenger safety is always our number one concern, but we wish conditions had been nicer during your visit. We'll hope you come back to Maui again as this was some pretty unusually and sustained high wind conditions for Maui.

Tour guides were fantastic! Saw many whales because they knew their behaviors and were able to get us straight to them when we got on the boat. They played great music as well when they were not telling us about the whales. We even had a spinner dolphin come right to our boat! It even played with whales for a few minutes. Great time!

Absolutely perfect!

Amazing trip, perfect in every way! I loved the information from the naturalist, and the boat was very comfortable. We saw so many whales, many up close, both moms and calves. I loved the professionalism of the crew and the respect they show these magnificent animals. The best whale watching tour we’ve ever taken!

Completely amazing!
This was the most amazing ocean experiences I have done! It ranks right up there with an African safari. We saw multiple whales and had 3 with their sidekick dolphin hang out right by the boat for at least half an hour. Definitely unforgettable!

Whale watch with the Experts on Ocean Explorer

We did the "Whale Watch with the Experts" tour on a Monday morning from Ma'alaea harbor. This was the second year we have done this tour, and it did not disappoint. I highly recommend this tour, this timing, this boat and this outfit. Do not miss whalewatching if you come to Hawaii in the winter!

We chose Monday from Ma'alaea specifically for the craft, the Ocean Explorer, which is a smaller, open-air boat that is closer to the whales. Other boats are newer, bigger, sleeker, and look far more comfy than this craft, but the Ocean Explorer gave us a much more hands-on experience--plus being totally open air, was better for those of us prone to seasickness. In late January/early February, the seas off Maui are fairly calm (although it was quite windy this day, which made for a bit of choppiness).

We did see whales--a good number. They came right up to the boat, resulting in us having to turn off the engines (we "got mugged"). We didn't see any whales leaping out of the water, but we did the previous year. I think it's just luck of the draw. This time, we had whales swimming directly beneath the boat and surfacing within 50 feet. It was fantastic.

The staff were excellent, informative and solicitous. Coffee and a light breakfast were offered. At one point they dropped a microphone and we got to hear the whalesong, which was fantastic.

Veteran PacWhale patron - simply the best.

There are many options in Maui to undertake a whale watching experience. The truth is, at the peak of the season, you will be happy with any of them. However, my wife and I make PacWhale our tour of choice and have now been on 8 cruises over the past 3 visits to the island.

The key differentiator is educational value. If you are the type to just roam the boat and tune out the narration, then there are other options that will satisfy you. However, if you want to understand these majestic creatures at a much deeper level, PacWhale is your best choice.

From the all the typical information to the unusual, you are likely to to learn more on these cruises than any other. Add a live hydrophone experience to enjoy the songs of the whales and it is sure to be an unforgettable trip.

From our experience, you'll see whales during any cruise time. However, the earlier you go, the calmer the water will be if you are overly sensitive to the motion. There's also something very special about seeing the sun rise while on the calm waters only to be startled by your first sighting of the day.

Last, but certainly not least, the dollars you spend with PacWhale support whale studies and preservation. I like to look at it as a little investment in the future enjoyment of others.

Whale Watching Must!

INCREDIBLE. We saw whales jumping, breaching, tail slapping, and more! We even got to hear them from below the ocean's surface. The staff, especially Sophie, were charismatic, entertaining, and super knowledgable! I also enjoyed the expertly made margarita from Andrea. Thank you PacWhale for the amazing work you do to protect whales in Hawai'i and beyond. I'm in awe and I'm so grateful for every one of you.

Outstanding.....Yet Again!

We have been doing whale watching for nearly 20 years, with Pac Whale and some private operations. If you are seriously interested in whale watching, take the smaller Explorer, 3 hour tour, as we have done several times. Yesterday's was the best ever. First, the weather was ideal. Second, we say dozens of whales, including a competition group, moms and calves, etc, and about half a dozen breaches. Third, Chloe, and I think Aaron and Matt, were super knowledgeable and super enthusiastic. Remember, we have been on this tour several times and these guys were the best. Sadly, for you all, Chloe is moving on to related career opportunities, including Tonga. And your money goes to a great cause, saving the whales and saving the earth. I would also recommend becoming a member, as you get discounts, and early boarding for good seats (though there are no bad ones, although if you are handicapped as I am, and have difficulty standing, most everyone else does so you have to make the best of it), and other benefits. We will do this again and again. I learned several new things about whales that I didn't think possible.
