Our driver was wonderful. He was polite and kind. The palace was lovely. The market felt a little rushed and very crowded. The camel ride was fun.

The driver, Mehdi, picked us up about a half hour late, which is not unusual to be late in Morocco. He was a quiet, excellent driver who made us feel safe. One of the first stops the local guide in Merekesh made was to a shop where we were given a sales talk. She took us to a number of shops throughout the day. Due the recent earthquake, we were not able to visit the palace. We took a quick walk through the square in Merekesh with no stopping. She was knowledgeable and spoke excellent English. The 30 minute or so camel ride was included.

I hate to be a Western tourist saying critical things about a service in developing, postcolonial country with a tourism economy, but I was encouraged to write a review to warn others after sharing my experience of this tour with friends.
I will start off by saying that I was provided with everything in the advertised itinerary, and that the driver was professional and nice. I did get what I paid for.
The less pleasant aspect of the tour was what I got on top of that.
The guide was outwardly pleasant, although oddly he didn't really provide any commentary except with respect to the Bahia Palace. Other reviews make positive reference to a female guide--my guide was male (I don't recall his name) and it's possible that my experience was significantly different due to this specific guide's involvement. Not just because of the dearth of commentary but, more significantly, because he clearly was receiving commissions from vendors in the Medina to funnel his guests to their businesses and make it awkward for them to leave without spending.
As we approached the Medina he advised me that we were going to go to some shops. I immediately thought "here we go" and I told him that I didn't intend to buy anything. He said we'd check them out anyways, and I didn't protest because...I was on a tour in foreign country and he was my ride back to my hotel in a different city.
First shop: Pharmacy/spice shop. I was herded into a basement where an employee showed me some wares and talked about various spices. I heard her out, thanked her, said I wasn't interested and went to leave. The guide directed me over to the owner, who told me it was rude to leave a store without buying anything and made comments about how I come from a rich country. The guide finally left with me after I asked him to leave multiple times.
Second shop: Gift shop. I was led around by a shopkeep showing me wares. I did see a knickknack or two that was worth picking up for a larf, and when I inquired as to price the shopkeep refused to answer and just said he'd show me more things and that if I buy enough things he'd give me a good price. He kept trying to show me clothing despite me telling him I wasn't interested. Eventually I left him mid-pitch to go to the guide and ask to leave. The guide again tried to get me to stay in the shop and hear out the shopkeep and I told him that I paid for a tour, I felt uncomfortable in the shop, and I wanted to leave. The guide obliged.
Third shop: Silk scarf shop. I was shown the process of them making the products, which was admittedly kind of neat. They then began the sales pitch. I actually did offer to buy one, but stated that I didn't have cash (I needed what I had to tip the driver/guide/camel guy) and offered to pay with a credit card. They first claimed not to have a credit card machine, and tried to make some arrangement with the guide for me to give him money and him to get it to them, before relenting and bringing out a machine. This was a red flag. There had been discussions of payment in Euros, then an amount displayed on the machine that would have been acceptable in MAD but extortionate in Euros (tenfold difference), with no indication of what the currency was. I asked them what currency this was in, and the guy with the machine flipped out, screamed at me and said it was in MAD. I walked out while telling the guide we were leaving.
The guide realized the tour was a disaster and tried to salvage it saying he hoped I still had a good time, and I still tipped him generously as a message to him that it wasn't that I was a cheapskate, but rather that I wasn't a rube.
I was assertive enough to not get fleeced and honestly found the series of events funny enough to not be mad about it, but I am writing this review because I could see the situation being extremely distressing for certain customers (e.g. young, female solo travelers). I was very cognizant of the fact that I was following the guide around a city I'd never been to, in a foreign country, away from the city where my hotel was. It was a bad situation to be in that put the customer at a disadvantage in the event of conflict, and the guide was clearly exploiting that. It was also obvious that visits to the actual points of interest were shortened in order to make time for the vendors to ply their wares to me, which wasn't appreciated.
P.S. - I expected this to be the case, but just to be clear, even though the camel ride is said to be included, the guy managing the rides expects a tip. I came prepared and accepted this beforehand, but there is potential for awkwardness there if you don't.

Nous avons trouvé l'excursion très bien. Par contre le guide devait traduire pour 22 personnes en espagnol ce qui fait perdre un peu de temps . Ne pas nécessairement faire du shopping ou trop longtemps.
Mais à part ça on a passé un excellent moment

It was the best of all tours we did in Morocco. Our driver Reda was excellent and made our long trip easy and comfortable. The local guide Nora was exceptional and in our short visit showed us all the best sights in Marakesh explaining everything in detail. Always ask for Nora.
On our way back to Casablanca we had another wonderful experience: a camel ride in sunset! Go go it.

The driver was very friendly and the guide in Marrakech was extremely knowledgeable and seemed to know all of the best places to visit -including some less touristy places like a neighborhood bakery and the furnace for the Hammam bath house. It was a whirlwind day but I felt like I got a good overview of Marrakech and I can’t wait to go back. (Photo of the guide Ebrahim)

The vendor cancelled the trip at last moment without any reason despite confirmation received a day prior to the trip. This is unfair and wasted my full day
