This excursions was extremely well put together. Yussef was an outstanding guide and driver, and really took care of us - even having lunch prepared for us at his home at one point. Every single stop was breathtaking, with the highlight being our night spent on the Sahara. The camel caravan was magical, the luxury camp was PERFECT! If we could have spent an extra night there we would have. I cannot say enough good things about this entire experience. The scenery, the food, the history, the music, and the PEOPLE - all AMAZING! Well worth the journey from Marrakech. Definitely recommended

Youssef was AWESOME - friendly, knowledgeable, very considerate and extremely good driving. We had a great time. Everything by Explore tours was planned very well - accommodation, food, sight seeing spots were all picked to perfection! And also very reasonable prices. The desert was awesome also.... we HIGHLY recommend them and the tour!!!

Went on this trip with 3 friends of mine and it was by far one of the best experiences ever. Mohammed was our guide and we could not have asked for someone better to guide us on our trip. He was incredibly knowledgeable, relaxed and funny! He went out of his way to make sure that we enjoyed ourselves by finding the perfect shops and locations. He helped us get good prices on items and really helped us learn so much about the country in only 3 days.

The trip itself was incredible. We drive through the beautiful Atlas Mountains and stop along the way for views and restaurants. The Sahara desert was absolutely breathtaking. We spent the night in beautiful tents and listened to live Berber music. Again, I highly recommend this trip and am hoping to return to this lovely country soon.

I contacted Said 2 weeks before my travel date and worried about every bad things you can read online. Turns out my guide Yuessef waited for me at Supratour Merzouga bus station since 5am,though I told them the bus gonna arrive close to 7am, starting my 3 day 2 night peaceful and customized Merzouga to Marrakesh trip with a warm touch.

Yuessef is very professional and knows all the roads and sites, as well as good camera angles. He is also very patient and none of those commercialized BS. He gave me recommendation on quality local product and shops (fossil, aragon oil, rose water, saffron, local costume, etc) ahead of time but never took me there or stopping without asking.

Overall, this is a company operated by people with integrity, manner, and hospitality, also reasonably priced.

p.s you can pick your own accommodation and Said may be able to give you a discount as an agent booking.

Explore Morocco Tours was amazing. But let me break down the trip so you understand why it’s so amazing. Read through the main lines and you’ll see how they went above and beyond like I’ve never seen before.

My background: We are a couple from Asia, so we aren’t use to the dry heat of the Sahara. We wanted to do an intense and short 5 day 4 nights trip whereby we start and end in Marrakech, looping through Merzouga and having the Berber and desert experience. This is what we did: Day 1 – Marrakech to Ait Benhaddou to Ouarzazate. Day 2: Ourzazate to Toundra Corges to Erfound, to Mezouga (the desert, we stayed in a tent). Day 3: Merzouga to Khamilia to Nomad villages to Erg Echabbi to Merzouga (we stayed in a hotel this day near desert). Day 4: to airport to Casablanca then by car to Marrakech. Day 5: to airport to go home.

Detailed itinerary: I’m a very detail oriented person and we iterated the itinerary about 8 times before I finally agreed to it. Said (pronounced “sa EED”), the key contact guy at Explore Morocco Tours, was very patient and broke down everything I wanted to know: hotel, pictures of hotels, travel time, distance, type of car, background of driver, activity, etc. Said had quick replies and was efficient in answering my questions. Honestly, I felt like he didn’t have other clients and was only working on my schedule. He not only did what I asked, but he suggested stuff (“oh that’s a good idea” or “I think you should consider xyz because abc”). I valued those suggestions, because I don’t like “yes-men”.

Now the trip…

My first tour guide was Youseff, a kind hearted, thoughtful, funny, Berber. Berbers are the name of the local folks in Morocco that make up the majority of the population. They typically live in mountains and deserts. Our second was Rachid, he’s a little more serious, but is very thoughtful in his answers about history and the geography especially since he can put it into perspective given he studied in California for college. Third was Mohamed. Youseff took us around Days 1 2 and 3. Day 4, Youseff dropped us off at the airport and then Rachid picked us up at Casablanca.

Here’s why Youseff and team are different from other tour guides.
- We were late: we started the trip late. As a matter of fact my significant other was still sleeping and we ended up leaving 1.5 hours later than what was scheduled. No complaints.
- Creative teamwork in dropping of my baggage: since we started and ended the trip in Marrakech, we wanted to leave some bags at our last hotel in Marrakech (which is the last night of our tour). Basically, we didn’t want to bring too much stuff in the deserts (yes, we stayed in Marrakech a few days before we started the tour so accumulated some clothes and souvenirs. As you saw, we were late. But instead of making us later by dropping off the stuff, Youseff said “don’t worry, I will pass it off to one of my colleagues later tonight and he will drop it off at your final hotel.” The tag team was executed seamlessly and my bags were there the last night.
- At our Beckon Call. In one of the nights in the desert, specifically the night when we stayed in tents, we were thirsty. So instead of going to get water, I thought maybe I could just send him a text at around midnight to see if someone can bring water to our tents. Long and behold, he came with two bottles of water to our tent. I’m not even sure if he was living nearby but it was nice. Youseff also helped with other stuff, for example, we bought some local clothes and wanted to wear them, but thought they were dirty, so he washed them overnight (I handed him the clothes at 5pm! ) and the clothes were ready at 9am the next day.
- We made many many changes: We are from Asia, a hot and humid area, so we couldn’t take the dry heat of the desert. At around 11pm of day 2, I texted Said and said, “I know we need to stay here for two nights, so can I cancel the second night (which was suppose to be another night in the tent) and just stay in a hotel nearby”. Within minutes, he replied with a name of a new hotel and a link with pictures. It was done. Youseff came by to reconfirm and said it was no problem.
- Free Free Free: So on our trip, Youseff / Rachid paid for our hotel, our breakfast, our lunch, our dinner, our water and our activities (shows, atv ride, camel rides). I won’t lie, we had to tip the various tribes on three occasions, but that was like 15-20 USD total. But when we ate, we didn’t hold back. We had multiple main courses and appetizers for each meal to try different foods. I was also on a low-carb diet, so Youseff was very thoughtful in picking restaurants and ordering food to make sure I was fed.
- More free free free stuff: our trip only came with one camel ride. However, we wanted to see the sunrise, so Youseff arranged another camel ride in the morning, no extra charge. Then we realized we wanted to wear our cleanly washed local clothes for pictures, so there was a THIRD camel ride, for free again.
- Chauffeuring service (Free again): When we landed into Casablanca and toured the city then headed back to Marrakech, we realized we got back around 4pm and wanted to run some errands such as get a hair cut, pick up some stuff we already ordered etc. Guess what, Rachid did it without complaint. It got so late, he ran out of batteries on his phone and was so tired that Said decided to give us ANOTHER DRIVER, Mohamed. Mohamed came to pick us up from our hair cut place and Rachid left for the evening. Since we had Mohamed we thought we could utilize his services more, so we asked (because we didn’t see any stars in Merzouga due to the cloudy weather) if we could be driven to outside Marrakech so we can star gaze for about 20-30 minutes. No hesitation, done. It was clearly outside the scope of his service.
- Changing hotels last day: So we decided to change it up a bit. For our last day, instead of staying at a hotel that they suggested we wanted to stay at Sofitel because our friends said it was the best in Marrakech. Said made it happen, even though we made this change Day 2. He booked it on Bookings.com. LoL. I thought it was very funny since it was clear he didn’t have a corporate relationship with them. But guess what, EACH of the other hotels we stayed at were better. So my suggestion is: go with their hotels. By the way, he only charged us a little bit more for Sofitel (genuinely believe it was close to cost).
- Delivery service: So day one of our trip, we fell in love with a carpet in Ouarzazate. We flinched at the prices and thought: well, it’s only first day never take the first offer. For the next three days ,we visited about 1 rug place a day trying to find the same one. We didn’t. And of course my better half kept saying the first one had better quality, but the sad thing was, we were flying back so we would not drive back to Ourzazate. Guess what. Youseff offered to go shopping for us. On Day 4, we went to Casablanca by plane and parted ways with Youseff who was suppose to bring the car back to Marrakech for the next set of clients. He went to the carpet shop and negotiated prices for us on the one we liked and brought it to Marrakech. This is unique because the drive was 8 hours from Merzouga to Marrakech . On top of that, we decided we wanted to buy the carpet at around 10pm of Day 4, so Youseff was communicating with the sellers and us until 1130pm. We got the carpet at 9am Day 5. Our flight was 12pm on Day 5. Amazing!

We really enjoyed our experience. And now, here are some tips:
- You will visit some shops. Just read blogs and do research ahead of time so you know what you want and how much you are willing to pay. These guides/drivers gave ZERO pressure. Of course they said it was good quality but it was 0 pressure. Just make sure you do your research. Don’t get pressured by shop owners (they there is some pressure here and there depending on how sensitive you are).
- Don’t be scared to change it up. As tourists, we are always worried about getting conned. So I believe if you change it up, then it’s harder to trick you. We changed a LOT of stuff. But by the end of the trip, and looking back at it, we realize these guides were very honest and Said did a great job of making sure we had a genuine hassle free experience. Change what you want to change to make your trip better. Don’t be scared to ask because Said and team were flexible.
- Prices. I compared Said’s prices to three other agencies. His were lower. And I cannot imagine how the service is better with others, so I tried to tip more. You should do your work too.
- Sand: imagine going to the beach with your entire suitcase. Your clothes, your body, your suitcase, the inside of your suitcase, it will all contain bits of sand. Expect it. Enjoy it.
- Dirhams: as much as people say, euros work, but people everywhere prefer the local currency. Do not exchange at the airport. Ask them to take you to a local hotel or exchange shop. Rates are about 0.25 dirhams to USD or EURO better than airports. And stores don’t take amex or discover card.
- Airconditioning: always make sure you have airconditioning. Supposedly this is a luxury option that’s not always there.

We thank Said and Youseff for the great experience!!! We would do it again with them. I hope their business grows so there can be more tours around the world with their level of service…. @Explore_Morocco_Tours @YoussefSahara @MoroccoTours @AmazingTours

Our experience was a mixed bag.

We booked a tour with Said after reading about the positive experiences of other travellers. We planned to travel from Marrakech to Merzouga, then onward to Fez and Chefchaouen. Nothing could have prepared us for the first 3 harrowing days we spent with Mohammad.

Most of the time during the drive, Mohammad would make abrupt stops and mumble ‘photo’ or ‘lunch’. There was little effort to even attempt to state where we were, much less any explanation at all. In fact, the most words were said at Jardin Majorelle, when he asked for a bribe to masquerade as a tour guide and purchase tickets from the express queue.

Even as a driver, Mohammad left much to be desired. He left us fearing for our lives with the constant speeding, even around hairpin bends of the Atlas Mountains and Tizi N’Tichka Pass. Any feedback we gave was not well received. To call his driving aggressive, is to put things mildly. Throughout the day, other drivers and cyclists would receive the middle finger, or servings of Arabic expletives.

Even when we could settle down during the drive, Mohammad was careful to ensure we would be as uncomfortable as possible. The air conditioning of his Mercedes was always ‘not working’. And opening more than 1 window would cause ‘too much noise’, so it would just have to be the window of the driver’s seat (presumably, this was for maximum effect for the aforementioned middle finger).

In the sweltering 40 degree Celsius heat, you can only start to imagine the discomfort of sitting in this oven.

I have not even started on the constant yelling on the mobile phone, refusal for us to stop anywhere else for lunch other than his designated stops, or strange unscheduled stops along the road to visit his ‘friends’ to purchase fishy merchandise.

At the end of our third day, Mohammad rudely demanded that we pay the full sum of the trip (we were initially told by Said to pay on the last day). We ended up conversing with Said. Upon learning of the earlier experience, he kindly offered to switch our driver the next day.

The next 2 days with Youssef were a breath of fresh air. He was friendly, chatty, entertaining, and very accommodating with all our requests. He drove us around Fes, and introduced us to Morrocan culture and the way of life. We even stopped by the road to purchase fresh and juicy oranges! This was also on his off days, so we are very thankful to Youssef for his gracious hospitality.

Our overall experience, however, still falls well into 1 star category, given the abysmal time we had with Mohammad.

Said was very responsive and generally pleasant, albeit rather theatrical during our initial conversation, saying that he was surprised about our experience since Mohammad was his ‘best driver’. I found that hard to believe. We also later discovered from Youssef that he did not even know Mohammad, despite having been with the company for many years. (It’s also pretty clear that this is a small company.) Said was also rather dramatic in stating that he had decided to suspend Mohammad’s wages for a month.

The bottom line is, we were charged almost 800 euros for our troubles. I’m not sure that I would even accept money to sit through the exquisitely horrifying experience that Mohammad served up.

When the possibility of a partial refund was brought up, Said immediately became very defensive, thus we chose not to pursue the matter. If he could suspend one month of his employee’s wage for this event, why can’t he offer a partial refund? I leave you to draw your own conclusions.

Many other tour agencies are available, with equal offerings. I humbly suggest that you look around and choose wisely, or risk having a similarly abysmal time as we did.

Dear Guest , We are very surprised to hear that you didn't enjoy your trip that you booked with us, but we were not surprised by this review because you were blackmailing us several times to refund you the money after finishing your trip. . You say that there is not air conditioning in the car, but we say that the car you used during your trip was a VIP Mercedes Vito 2018. You booked a car with english speaking driver !!! just check your mails because we didn't say "English speaking guide". English speaking driver is a licensed professional local car driver who is fluent in English, who knows the region very well, who can give you non-specific information about the area. Drivers cannot provide any historical and artistic explanations. When you asked to change the driver, we did not delay in changing it quickly and that is what you acknowledged in your review. I have sent you all my phones numbers and Whatsapp to solve all the problems immediately, knowing that we offered you a free wifi in the car and you did not contact us until the 3rd day of the trip, and what is mean? Mohamed is one of the best drivers in our team and i know what i say, because he called us from the begining of the trip complaining about your behavior inside the car throughout the journey. All our cars are equiped by GPS tracker, and this is why i can say that you lie when you said that the Mohamed was agressive in his driving in Tichka pass, because after reviewing the GPS tracker we found that he drove less than 60 km/h. Anyway thanks for your review , and wish you all best from my side. We are available 7/7 and 24/24 to slove all problems immediately. Thanks again , Said.

we took a very short trip with this company. a 3 day tour from marrakech to fes with one night spent in the desert. i coordinated and booked with Said almost 3-4 months before our trip. Said was very responsive and helpful in the booking process. he included the hotels and desert camps included in each price range and was very clear about what would be included in the tour. this made it easy for us to decide what type of accomodations suited our needs.
our driver Abdul Rahman and guide Rashid were with us for the 3 day tour and both were very nice and helpful. We had a 2 year old child with us and they both were very friendly and cooperative with her. By the end of the trip, they were not only our guides but friends. we had a lovely trip with them and would definitely use this company again in the future.
anyone looking to book a tour in morocco should definitely use this company!
thanks to Said, rachid, and Abdul Rahman for an unforgettable trip in their beautiful country!

Just finished a 2 week tour of Morocco with Explore Morocco Tours. The person who accompanied us during the 14 day tour was friendly, but had no knowledge of the various destinations that we visited. He was not even able to book fine dining restaurants in any of the cities and by default took us to way side Moroccan restaurants. The hotels that we stayed were well below average and we had to change 3 of them at our expense at the last minute. One in Marrakech did not have heating, the one in Sahara desert did not have power and the one in Fes did not have water! We paid $1200 per person for the trip and most of hotels we stayed were $50 per night for two persons including breakfast!

If we visit Morocco again, we would not use them. I calculated their profit margins and its a shocking 40%. This was based on an estimate of the transportation cost and the price quoted by various hotels!

We have three bad reviews at the same time, from the same person, with same dialogue by defferent TripAdvisor accounts we don't know why he want to revenge from us. We didn't organise any trip for you at that time, and we challenge you if you can prove the opposite. We have a very good reputation from a long time and you can't fall down our business.
