Our Guide Aveesh (hope this is spelt correctly) spoke good English. He was knowledgeable and explained things very well. He was also great at spotting birds. We walked for 7 kilometers, 70% on hard surface, 10% on steps and 20% on rough ground and climbed the equivalent of 30 flights of stairs so not for the unfit. Lovely fresh hot snacks for lunch at Sublime View Point. For the keen birdwatchers, we got 5 of the 6 endemics there: we easily saw the Pink Pigeon, Echo Parrot, Mauritian Paradise Flycatcher, Grey White Eye and Mauritius Bulbul. Sadly we missed the Mauritian Kestrel. A good but tiring day out. A well run operation with good facilities.

This was the best experience we had in Mauritius. Our guide was Avish - very knowledgeable and enthusiastic, explaining the life of the forest in detail. We saw many of the endemic birds, such as pink pidgeon and mauritius paradise flycatcher.
He also explained a bit more of the current situation of nature preservation and conservation in Mauritius. It is important that tourists visiting Mauritius would choose activities that promote eco-tourism. The tour was really eye-opening and there is a serious need for organizations such as Ebony Forest to continue their work.
Thank you again and all the best for the future!

We thank you for your review and contribution to our project. We really need to protect our endangered species (fauna and flora) and your visits contribute to that.

This birdwatching tour was an absolute highlight of our 10 days spent in Mauritius.
Our guide, Nathy, was absolutely brilliant - clearly very enthusiastic about the work he does at the reserve, and unbelievably knowledgeable not just about the birds but about the plants, mammals, and the island as a whole. It seemed no question we asked could stump him. He made this tour extremely memorable for us, and also gave us plenty of tips and recommendations that helped us on the rest of our stay on the island.
The reserve itself gives a really optimistic and contrasting view of Mauritius' endemic flora and fauna to the general impression of lost habitats that you get across the rest of the island. It is so exciting to see the fantastic work that is being done at the reserve to restore and conserve the endemic species - both plants and animals alike. Such a good job has been done in fact that we were easily able to spot all the species of bird that we set out to find on our walk - we actually spotted the Mauritian Kestrel within seconds of leaving the visitor centre.
10/10 experience! But, don't forget to bring lots of water with you... its quite a hike before you are rewarded with complimentary refreshments at the (absolutely stunning) lookout point.

I'm extremely glad we decided to do this guided birding tour - it was an enriching, enjoyable and educational experience.
I can't heap enough praise on Nathy (I hope the spelling is correct). His knowledge is astounding and he has a knack for sharing knowledge in a very simple, yet eloquent, way. We enjoyed every minute with him.
The forest itself took my breath away. It felt as if time stood still and I just wanted to immerse myself in every second.
The day we went turned out to be rainy and we got a bit soaked... well, not a bit - a bit more. HOWEVER, though we were cold and wet, we still enjoyed every minute. The fact that there were lovely hot treats on top of the mountain helped (the most delicious samosas - you have to go there).
Doing this tour also gave us some insight into the immense effort going into nature conservation by a small handful of people. I respect them and salute them and wish them success.
Nathay, come visit South Africa - our home is your home!
Oh yes, I almost forgot about the birds... That was the whole point of the trip, wasn't it? Seeing the six endemic species that we did was indeed special. As I stood there watching the echo parakeet, I couldn't help but wonder: how many people will in their lifetime, have this privilege? You catch my drift. It's that kind of moment.

Our birdwatching tour at Ebony Forest left me speechless. The countless efforts that have been put into the reintroduction of the native flora and fauna of Mauritius are absolutely incredible.
We were able to learn so much during this tour because of how knowledgable and passionate our guide was. What they're doing here is truly a wonderful project and the view from the top of the forest hike is breathtaking.
A trip to Ebony Forest alone is worth the visit, however, it's located nearby Charamel Waterfall and the Colored Earth Geopark making it easy to visit the other attractions. Ebony Forest is a MUST when visiting Mauritius!

We thoroughly enjoyed the tour with Aveesh. A big highlight was seeing the flycatcher forest. We also loved seeing the echo parakeet aviary and the pink pigeons. The view at the top is amazing. The drinks are a good reward for the hike. Highly recommmend!!!

We travelled from the north east if the island and it took nearly two hours to the trail. It was well signposted and the staff were welcoming and accommodating.
The walk itself is approximately 5.4km if you walk from the bottom to sublime point (There is also a further point if you are interested in walking further). Sublime point offers a great view of Le Morne, there is also a small cafe that offers a welcome snack / cold drink, this is reasonably priced. There is also a nice seating area to relax and enjoy the view.
We met Zean for a short time for the raised walkway, he was a lovely guide and was extremely friendly and knowledgeable. This is an excellent project and well worth the visit - look at the photos as proof. We did see a few endemic birds, like most things this is often down to the time of day and luck, if I were a little closer I would certainly visit again during my holiday. It is a good location to visit the other attractions such as coloured earth.
If you are not that mobile there is a vehicle that can take you up and down, also the museum is good at the bottom. Great visit - thank you team.

The trip was superb - our guide was knowledgeable, quick to point out all of the rare local birds that came close to us (including some flycatchers and a beautiful endemic kestrel!) and the views were stunning. It was generally really great to see their efforts in reintroducing the native wildlife and forest.
Well worth a morning hike to avoid the heat of the day!

We had a very entertaining adventure with our guide, Denis and his colleague, getting to know the endemic birds, wildlife and plants in Ebony forest. We arrived the Reserve by taxi after 9:30 and started hiking through the forest trek.
Denis is very dedicated and knowledgeable about the environment and wildlife. Time went very quickly. Just after mid-day, we managed to hike all the way to Sublime Point with fantastic panoramic view over the coastline. We were treated with local snack and cold juice before returning to the starting point in a 4x4 vehicle. Overall, highly recommended activity.
