Top class establishment! Would recommend them for sure. We did a 3 day gorilla trekking with them, and it was very well organized and communication was great. We dealt with Denis via email and Martin was our driver. We were picked up promptly at 0600 for our journey to the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. Unfortunately the main raid was washed out so we had to take a detour so the journey from Entebbe to the forest was a long trek. It was about 10-11hrs.
Our driver, Martin was excellent. He was friendly, and made several stops along the way and tried to help us find some Jackfruit! On the way back unfortunately we got stuck in brutal traffic. But Martin did his best. Martin our driver was great! The gorilla
Trekking was amazing! Oh my goodness. We loved it. It was so worth it.
So the only thing that I could maybe suggest is that when Denis first replies to an email, let the clients know that you MUST apply for an online, not in the airport like a Uganda used to do. And that you also MUST have yellow fever vaccination, and it must be fine 10 days before you arrive. I knew you needed a visa, but when my wife was previously in Uganda, you got a visa at the airport. It could have been really bad had we not figured that out. That’s the only advice I would offer. It was stated that the Visa cost was not included in the price, but we thought originally it was like Tanzania where you get the visa when you arrive.
But I would highly recommend them. I might recommend doing another tour while you’re up there. As it was a long long drive for the gorilla trekking, while of course it was well worth it, I almost wish that Denis tried to upswell me and we stayed out that way for another day or 2 and did maybe chimp trekking or something like that!

thanks to encounter and our guide steven, the 5 days of gorilla trekking and game safari was the best experience of our honeymoon. From planning to implementation, everything went extremely well. we didn't have to worry about anything during the trip, we could only enjoy it. thanks to steven we had a fun and adventurous time.

Encounter Africa Safaries is an excellent company. Our contact person Moniica was outstanding in her prompt, clear and professional communication. Her advice was always outstanding, be it the search for hotels or the selection of our guide and driver, Obed Tukwasibw.

Via een vriend deze organisatie doorgekregen. Net voor COVID alles afgestemd en bevestigd en nu eindelijk kunnen gaan. De communicatie verliep zelfs in deze erg lange periode heel makkelijk. Onze wensen werden goed begrepen en uitgevoerd in een fijn programma.
Op de afgesproken tijd was Jason er om ons op te pikken en dat bleef zo tijdens de hele reis. Alles vlekkeloos verlopen en Jason deed nog eens extra zijn best om ons 4 leeuwen te laten zien. Betrouwbare partij!

We can only give our highest regards to Encounter Africa Safari. They did everything they could to make this a memorable trip.
We planned this trip two years ago just before COVID hit. During this Monica was great at being flexible and helpful when the timing was right again.
We started our trip in Rwanda at the Genocide museum which was a powerful experience. This was a memorable visit.
After this, we went on gorilla trekking, which also was an amazing experience, but in a completely different way of course. It is well worth the hike, that you need to before you see them.
After this, we went to Queen Elizabeth park. Here we had a few days with game drives and a boat ride on the canal.
We also got a few extra experiences which we didn’t expect to have. With a visit to a Pygmy village and the salt lakes, while also learning about our guide Alonso's education in the area.
Everything made it an amazing experience. Even though there might be fewer animals compared to the neighbouring countries. Then you don’t miss out on anything there are plenty of animals to see and you will have a lot of time to enjoy them all without 15 other cars around you.
If you want a local and authentic experience then I would recommend Uganda as a travel destination for your future travel.

Wow! What an amazing experience we had, made possible by Patrick (coordinating) and Stephen (our guide, driver, companion and overall ROCKSTAR). Everything was well planned, well documented, great communication and we highly recommend using this company if you’re exploring Uganda. From the start, planning: this was a long overdue/postponed honeymoon (thanks to Covid), despite all the chaos of the world and multiple reschedules, Encounter Africa Safaris made this process easy and kept us up to date on all important information. As we got closer to our trip, we were looking for Airport transportation suggestions and asked Patrick who arranged to have our guide pick us up and take us to our downtown hotel. Next: our guide, Stephen, he was so wonderful to us. He picked us up at the airport and told us where to go, where it was safe and what to avoid. He was with us the entire time we were in Uganda and it might seem a little daunting to go on a road trip (8hrs one way to Bwindi) in a foreign country with a stranger, but not an issue with Stephen! He was so friendly, knowledgeable and kind. He also helped arrange for us to get a COVID test on our way so we would have the results for our second destination. On the way to/from Bwindi, we made several stops for food/restroom breaks and everywhere we went was clean, friendly and had a lot of really cool local items to purchase. Finally, the main event, the Gorilla tracking: this was absolutely one of the most incredible things we have ever done. It should be noted that I am not at all an outdoorsy/adventure loving type of gal so I was a little hesitant about this part of the honeymoon when my husband proposed the idea. Knowing my concerns about this, Stephen, who has done this before, was able to ensure we were part of a group that would fit my comfort and fitness level. And it was just really freaking cool. Overall, everything was better than expected, we had the best time and 10/10 recommend using Encounter Africa Safaris (and if possible, see if Stephen is open!).

We had a truly wonderful time in Uganda!
We were travelling as a couple, flying in on the Tuesday, starting our adventure with Encounter Africa on the Wednesday, and ending our trip on Sunday.
Our guide Obed made the experience so special in so many ways. Firstly, he turned up at our accommodation on the Tuesday night after dinner to introduce himself and talk through the plan for the next 5 days. This made us feel immediately at home with him and excited for the start of our trip.
Day 1: an 11 hour drive, but through beautiful scenery! We stopped off at the equator - the water experiment cost 10 shillings (about £2) - and we grabbed a coffee at Flamingoz as we arrived at about 9.30am. For lunch, we were taken to a buffet which enabled us to sample lots of local cuisine including green banana mash (I think called matake, and it tasted like mashed potato), goat stew/curry, among other things. Very tasty and all included in the safari price. All we had to cover was drinks, which were inexpensive. We arrived in Rushaga at the Gorilla Havens Lodge in the mid-afternoon, so we went for a short walk down the road to better see the view into the valley. The Lodge was stunning, a brilliant recommendation from Encounter, and our stay there was among the highlights of the trip. Dinner was delicious, and we were very well taken care of by all of the staff.
Day 2: Gorillas! Honestly a life changing experience. We hadn't realised that we'd needed face masks for the gorilla trek, so Obed very kindly tracked some down for us. The community dance was wonderful and the guides were incredibly professional and kind. We opted for the longest route, looking for (and finding) the Bwenza gorilla family: 13 gorillas including 2 silverbacks, 6 grown females, 3 juveiles and 2 babies. They were a very lively group and we were able to get some lovely photographs. Our hike took about 5 hours, with an additional hour spent with the gorilla family. We wanted to stop off for some craft souvenirs, so Obed dropped us off at the craft village adjacent to the gorilla centre.
Day 3: travel to Queen Elizabeth National Park + game drive #1. It was another long drive to the national park, but we reached Elephant Hab (our accommodation) in time for lunch. Again, Encounter found us a wonderful place to stay and we were able to get our first sightings of elephants from the balcony. We travelled into the park in the late afternoon for a 3 hour game drive. No sightings of the 'big cats' on this occasion but we were thrilled to see a whole variety of animals up close including: velvet monkeys, babboons, uganda cob, warthogs, waterbucks, speckled mouse birds, castle egrits, buffalo, red necked spurfowl, and more. We fleetingly thought we saw a python, but it turned out to be a tree branch... Obed was very knowledgable and was able to identify everything we saw, providing additional details and really enriching the experience.
Day 4: game drive #2, boat cruise and an additional surprise! Following an early breakfast, we headed out for our second game drive. We were thrilled to finally get glimpses of a small lion pride (we think 4 individuals), though some distance from the road. The zoom on our camera allowed us a much better view! Obed suggested a quick trip to Bunyampaka Salt Lake, which we accepted, and it allowed us to see hippos and flamingos. We were given a tour by a lovely man, who told us all about how they extract salt from the lake. We bought a couple of small bags as souvenirs. Following lunch, we went for our boat cruise. Due to an unexpected delay, we ended up on a different boat than planned, but it worked out for the better - Obed working his contacts and enabling us to have a private tour. It was too cool for any crocodile sightings, but we saw plenty of hippos and a wide range of water birds.
Obed had gotten to know us over several days, and suggested that we would enjoy a trip to the local orphanage where we would be able to see the children practicing songs and dances. We trusted his word, and it was an incredible experience - I cried a little. We took the opportunity to support the orphanage, and went on a walk with the Director up to the crater lakes at the top of the hill; and to see where they were beginning to build their school. This experience was incredibly moving and really enriched the experience we had in Uganda. It was a real show of Obed understanding that we wanted an authentic experience and going out of his way to personalise our adventure.
Day 5: saying goodbye. Our final day was spent in the car heading back to Entebbe for our flight home. Being honest, we slept for a lot of the long journey - completely exhausted by our action-packed 4 days. Obed took care of us very well, made sure we had plenty of rest-stops, and got us to the airport in plenty of time for our flight.
We were so sad that our trip had to end, and we wouldn't hesitate before booking another adventure with Encounter Africa Safaris. We are very keen to come back with family for other experiences - next time to see the chimps, and perhaps to visit other parks in Uganda - to see zebras, rhinos and other animals.

My time with Encounter was amazing. The safari and trekking if gorillas and chimpanzees could not have been a more perfect experience from the accomodation to the activities themselves. My driver, Martin was amazing and super helpful with all things I needed. Thank you so much.
