WOW … we stayed for 1 night and had the most amazing experience .. although the room was basic with no working hot water I would go back there in a heart beat ..( they appear to be building some luxury cottages on site so might try them next time ) the rhino tracking was amazing and although I rarely listen to the safety briefing I am pleased we did as the information was required numerous times .. but after the tracking we had dinner in the restaurant and the rhinos walked beside u ( we were close enough to touch them ) an absolutely amazing experience and worth every Penny .. thankyou

We didn't really know what to expect on the tour of this sanctuary. We were given a background safety presentation and then told how the sanctuary started from nothing to now over 41 rhinos the most recent only four days old. We drove to the area of one family and hiked for a short distance and saw a mother rhino, her baby about 6 months and another baby she had adopted who is about a year old. We watched them interacting from a distance of about 25 yards and were able to take excellent photos. We walked further and saw eight more rhinos resting under a tree. We never dreamed we would see eleven rhinos. Our guide Jackson was excellent. We felt safe with him, and he answered all of our questions.

Wenn sie die Möglichkeit haben, besuchen sie es. Man bekommt ein kurzes Briefing und wird dann von einem Ranger (mit bewaffneter Begleitung) zu Fuß zu den Rhinos geführt. Wir haben mehrere Gruppen von 3-5 Rhinos getroffen und man kann sich von verschiedenen Richtungen auf 20-30 Metern den Tieren nähern. Ein einmaliges Erlebnis.

This was a great experience. I am always nervous to visit these so called wildlife ranches / sanctuaries because they are normally about exploiting animals. I believe this place is an exception.
You will track the rhinos on foot and will be able to get quite close to them, but not close enough to disturb them. Each of them has an armed guard with shoot to kill permission 24/7. A sad world we live in.
You will have a limited time to observe the rhinos and then time to ask questions from the ranger.
There is a nice restaurant on site with vegetarian options. If you are vegan, you will have a bit of explaining to do, but the staff is friendly and chef came to talk to us. Our food was delicious.

Tra i big five, il rinoceronte è tra i più rari e a rischio. Qui, in questo "santuario" è possibile vederne con una certa semplicità . Se avete la possibilità di scegliere, evitate le ore calde, ma andateci di pomeriggio dove è più probabile vederli in giro per il parco.

Los guardabosques de este lugar hacen que tu visita sea extremadamente placentera. Si bien es cierto que aquà los rinocerontes están siendo reintroducidos a Uganda y que este es el único lugar en donde los puedes ver en este paÃs, los rinocerontes se ven cómodamente libres en este hábitat creado para ellos. Vale la pena.

This was my second visit to Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary (first was in 2020) - what an amazing place! Just the fact that they're saving the endangered white rhino from extinction is enough reason to visit and support this sanctuary. This is the only place in Uganda to see rhinos, so the chance to get "up close and personal" in a wild setting is quite unusual. This visit was part of a safari through the Kampala-based African Pearl Company. Our guide was an enthusiastic young ranger named Jeremiah who was bound and determined to show us as many rhinos as possible. Our experience was enhanced by donning rubber boots and trekking through the brush and mud of the sanctuary to find different rhino families.
There are over thirty rhinos in the 27-square mile sanctuary, some in family groups, some single individuals; we saw 16 of them. All are watched around the clock by armed guards. Poaching for rhino horn is a big problem, and has caused all rhino species to be listed as endangered. Ziwa is trying to preserve these White rhinos with the hope of eventually releasing them into the wild one day or, at least, forming another sanctuary. The sanctuary is also home to other species of hoofed stock including Uganda kob, bushbucks, and warthogs.
I mentioned to Jeremiah that I had been to Ziwa before and even found a picture of my 2020 guide on my phone. Jeremiah identified him as a good friend, Caleb, and actually took me to meet him since he was out guarding one of the rhinos - such fun!!
Jeremiah is also a birding guide. We went out to the Lugogo Swamp with him early the next morning where he spotted 4 elusive shoebill storks for us as well as many other beautiful birds. The storks were a distance away but we could see them clearly through binoculars - very rewarding experience.

I visited the Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary in October 2022. It was one of the stops on our way to Murchison Falls. It's a relatively long drive from Entebbe, not because it is a long way, but because of the traffic in Kampala, so be prepared to spend a lot of time in a car in a probably very hot weather.
The sanctuary itself is very nice and interesting - and of course the work they do is amazing. We did the walk to find the rhinos and our guide was very knowledgeable and told us a lot of interesting rhino-related facts. We also got relatively close to the animals once we found than and it was nice to stay and just watch them for a while. The walk is not super long but the weather and muddy areas definitely makes it harder than you would expect.
This is of course a nature open space so be prepared for natural life, mosquitoes long grass and a lot of sun. The sanctuary offers some wellies as there are a lot of muddy areas when walking - highly recommend that one accepts the offer. Also take a hat and water while walking and don't wear shorts.

This is the only place in Uganda where you can view the endangered southern white rhino in the wild. Sadly, they were declared extinct after poachers killed them off in Murchison Falls National Park in the early 1980s. The Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary, established in 2005, began with 6 rhinos, and the count is now at 33. Their goal is to eventually reintroduce the southern white to their natural Ugandan habitats. Silver, our friendly, knowledgeable ranger, led us on a walk through the bush that took us within meters of several groups of rhinos. We were provided with boots (necessary as we trekked through wet areas) but overall, we found it to be an easy walk. What a unique experience! The sanctuary is located on the road between Kampala and Murchison Falls National Park. Do not miss!

We mostly prefer to see animals in their natural habitats, and we have seen a rhino in the far distance, and here we go so close and it was amazing.
You are guaranteed to see them and they are not in cages but walking around as they please on the sanctuarys big grounds.
They started with 0 rhinos and now they are up to 36! With more rhinos on the way. We were told that when they reach 50, they plan to release them to the park.
They do an amazing work, and equipped in rubber boots you are driven quite close to the rhinos, then you walk a few minutes - and there they are!
We saw some in the distance and 5 quite close. We were lucky enough to see them move around and then head for the shade to take a nap :-)
