I really enjoyed this tour. The sites we visited, especially Noravank Monastery, were most beautiful. The guide had her work cut out because two thirds of our group was Russian and the rest Italian and British, meaning she had to communicate everything twice. To be honest, though, this was in no way an inconvenience for us as guests — the guide had the good judgement to send one group for free time, photos etc. whilst briefing the other group, rather than making everyone stand and listen to the same information twice. This was appreciated. Aside from the beautiful landscape and monasteries, I really liked the final stop for the wine tasting. It was exciting and novel to me to try pomegranate, raspberry and cherry wines — they were all delicious and I particularly liked that our guide joined us and told us stories and her personal experiences. For me this is what tours are all about. Whilst the obligatory shot of vodka at the end of the tour from her father may have burned the throat, it certainly warmed the soul. Very well done & thank you — all the best to you and Armenia!

Amazing cultural and religious history. The tour was informative and entertaining. The guide is very knowledgeable about her country’s history. Armenians are resilient and are struggling to stand and defend their country. It’s safe to travel in Armenia especially if you contact a reliable tourists agency like Yereni. The tour was well organized, and they support local winery.

Visiting Virap, Noravank, Areni Cave, and experiencing wine tasting with my family was an unforgettable trip, filled with historical significance and incredible landscapes.
We started our journey at Khor Virap, a place rich in Armenian history. The Khor Virap Monastery is famous for its association with Saint Gregory the Illuminator, who was imprisoned here before converting the Armenian king to Christianity. Standing at the monastery, we had a panoramic view of the Biblical Mount Ararat, which added a mystical feel to the experience. The location felt deeply spiritual, and the quiet surroundings allowed us to reflect on Armenia's pivotal role in early Christian history.
From Khor Virap, we traveled to Noravank, one of Armenia's most striking monasteries. Situated in a narrow gorge surrounded by towering red cliffs, the architecture of Noravank Monastery was mesmerizing. We visited Surb Astvatsatsin Church, famous for its unique architecture and stunning location. The contrast of the red rock formations against the monastery's stonework made it a perfect place for photos and exploration. The serenity of the place left a lasting impression on us.
Next, we ventured to Areni Cave, known for its archaeological significance as one of the oldest wine-making sites in the world. The cave was fascinating, and walking through it felt like stepping back in time. The cave's ancient wine presses and the discovery of the world’s oldest known leather shoe were particularly exciting. Learning about the early origins of Armenian wine-making was a highlight of the trip, and we were amazed by the depth of history in this quiet, mysterious location.
After the cave, we indulged in a wine-tasting experience at a local vineyard in the Areni region, renowned for its ancient wine tradition. The winery offered a selection of local Armenian wines, each with distinct flavors, and it was a pleasure to sample wines made from indigenous grapes. We enjoyed learning about Armenia’s wine-making history, and the tasting session was both educational and fun for the entire family. The vineyard's setting, surrounded by lush green hills and vineyards, added to the charm of the experience.
This trip combined the best of Armenia's history, culture, and natural beauty. From the spiritual atmosphere at Khor Virap to the stunning landscapes of Noravank and the fascinating discovery of ancient winemaking in Areni Cave, each location offered something special. The wine tasting was a delightful end to an enriching day of exploration, and it gave us a deeper appreciation for Armenia's wine heritage. It was an experience that my family and I will cherish for years to come.

It was perfect, we enjoyed the tour very much! The whole day was well planned and professionally organised. We visited fantastic places of which Noravank Monastery is really a gem and located in a very beautiful landscape. Also the wine tasting in Areni was much fun and gave us a good insight into Armenia's big variety of wines. We were very happy with our guide, who was not only knowledgeable but also very enthusiastic in giving lots of information about the places and Armenia in general. Also the driver was 100% to rely on and brought us safely through a long day. Thank you very much for this wonderful excursion!
