Our 12 day tour with Lanka Safe Tours was great! Supun was our driver and he was amazing. He always answered all our questions and knew the best sight guides. We have learned so much about Buddhism and Sri Lanka during these 12 days, it was a perfect tour. Most of the hotels were also fantastic and the food was great as well. Special thanks to Supun for making our stay in Sri Lanka perfekt!

We stayed for six nights at Cinnamon Red Colombo. Rooms are quite spacious with comfortable double bed. Cleaniness and room service is very good . Hotel is in the center of Colombo with many eating joints at nearby places. The Buffet Breakfast is well spread.

I wanted to go on a 12-day Ramayana Trail tour + a leisure tour with my elderly parents who are senior citizens. After talking and taking quotations from the top 5 tour companies of Sri Lanka, I decided to go ahead with "Lanka Safe" tour company. This was the BEST decision I could have made for a vacation in Sri Lanka. I am sharing my experience in detail so that it helps those who are in a dilemma regarding which tour company in Lanka they should trust for having a hassle free memorable vacation.
Pre-booking and booking experience -
1. I found the names of top market players from the Internet and pinged each of them on the whats app number mentioned on their website. Mr Dinesh from the Lanka Safe tours was the first one to respond. I didn't get such a quick response from any other tour company. In fact to be honest some took even 2 to 3 days to reply to my queries/pings.
2. Mr Dinesh was super proactive and immediately created a whats app group in which other members of his team were also included namely Mr Thakshala and Mr Laksh. This whats app group was created by Mr Dinesh so that if I ping them with any query, anyone of them who is free at that time can send a response to me. This was so thoughtful as it showed that Mr Dinesh didn't want to make me wait. Also all the members of this team had different areas of strength and hence it immensely helped to finalize the tour.
3. I had drafted a detailed Ramayana tour itinerary after extensive research keeping the requirements of my parents in my mind. I had shared this itinerary with all the tour companies I had contacted. Mr Dinesh and Mr Thakshala studied my itinerary in detail and agreed to accommodate all the places my parents wanted to visit. They went the extra mile and did their own research regarding which places are accessible easily by a 4 wheeler and which places can only be accessed by a 4WD vehicle. Mr Dinesh went above and beyond in finding alternative routes which had better roads (though these routes demanded more kilometers). He completely avoided routes which had bumpy forest roads so that my elderly parents wouldn't suffer from back pain. I highly appreciate this kind gesture and thoughtfulness. None of the other tour companies took the effort to find out any information about the tour points that we wanted to visit. They either provided me with easy answers like Mam, we have never heard about this place or gave me silly excuses like Mam, there is no road to go to this place (this too when Google maps was showing a clear road).
4. Lanka Safe team gave us a good list of hotels/resorts to choose from and had the flexibility to offer hotels/resorts as per our budget. The options provided by them were excellent. During the course of our trip we stayed in 10 different cities of Sri Lanka and the hotels/resorts booked by Lanka Safe in all these 10 cities were excellent. They booked spacious rooms in 5 to 7 star hotels/resorts for us which had all kinds of luxuries. Can't even express in words the splendid view we had from the balcony/patio of our room daily. Some Days it was a resort with a private beach, somedays a room with a huge balcony looking towards the sea without any obstruction in between.
At Ella, our room balcony opened to many rolling hills of mystic tea gardens and cascading waterfalls. The clouds floated below the balcony. At Sigiriya, a jungle resort was booked for us which was extremely serene. The sound of wind gushing through the branches of the trees in the wee hours of morning made us feel that we have come to a true wonderland. At Bentota beach resort we could hear the sounds of waves crashing into the beach. These are the kind of experiences one looks for! The checkin - checkout processes were hassle free as the Lanka Safe team took care of all the accommodation payments even before we arrived. They even arranged rooms on the higher floors of the resorts wherever I requested them.
5. All the members of the Lanka Safe team have a very good proficiency in written and spoken english. They are polite, well behaved and super responsive to calls and pings.
6. When I compared the packages/budget for the whole tour given by Lanka Safe company with the package pricing of other companies, I found the Lanka Safe was giving the most reasonable package in the industry with a private luxury vehicle, proficient English speaking tour guide/driver and luxury resorts in all cities. They offer complete flexibility and multiple options for the mode of payment. Also they take a very little amount as the "advance booking amount" as compared to other companies, some of which even demanded me to send 50% of the total amount before the trip starts. Lanka Safe was flexible to take money in any currency (INR/LKR/USD), via cash, online payment, payment through Remitly etc.
7. Mr Dinesh arranged a brand new big car for us which was in a very good condition and had excellent shock absorbers. The vehicle was clean, had strong AC, spacious luggage trunk and excellent leg space. The best part was that the Lanka Safe team provided free Wi-Fi inside the vehicle during the whole course of the trip.... and Man!! This Wi-Fi works even in the forest areas :) And that's why we didn't need to buy a Sri Lanka SIM card as we were easily able to contact family and friends using vehicle Wi-Fi during the day and resort Wi-Fi during the night. No other Sri Lanka tour company provided this facility.
8. To my surprise, the vehicle insurance and the insurance for all the passengers was taken care of by Lanka Safe. Because of this we didn't have to take separate health insurance for our stay in Sri Lanka. This saved us a lot of money. None of the other tour companies had this health insurance included.
9. 1 complimentary mineral water bottle was offered to each of us during each day of our trip by Lanka Safe. No other Sri Lanka tour companies had this included at such a reasonable tour package cost.
Tour Experience -
1. We were received at the Colombo airport by Mr Supun who was our tour guide cum driver for the whole trip. I feel extreme happiness in saying that Mr Supun so far is the best tour guide/driver I had. And this I say after exploring 20 plus countries with different tour agencies and tour guides/drivers. Supun was on time and welcomed us with beautiful garland made of sea shells. Oh, we felt so welcomed in a foreign land!
2. Supn then loaded our luggage in the big and comfortable car sent by Mr Dinesh. He had already switched on the AC of the car so that we don't have to bear the Lankan heat even for a minute. And our super fun trip started with an extremely proficient driver Supun.
3. Few observations about Mr Supun - He is extremely polite, well behaved, well mannered, super punctual (was not late even by a minute on any day), always kept the vehicle clean by daily washing it, proficient in English, clicks very good pictures (knows how to use a DSLR camera), is trained in reading Google Maps, has a very good sense of directions, has very good local contacts, knows where the vegetarian/vegan restaurants are located in each city, did not drink or smoke during the complete trip, he does not drive while on the phone, follows all the traffic rules, has excellent knowledge about national highways as well as small village routes, knows where good shopping market is located, helped us in bargaining the prices with locals, always had an infectious smile on his face, made us feel super comfortable, was very flexible in a way that if we said we want to start the day at 6 am, he would get ready with the cleaned vehicle by 5:45 am without any complains.
4. When we ran out of Lankan currency during shopping, Supun immediately took out his wallet and offered us his Lankan currency which we returned to him later. Such a thoughtful act!
5. As we had taken INR currency to Sri Lanka, Mr Dinesh and Mr Thakshala were kind enough to send Mr Supun Lankan currency in exchange of our INR so that we do not face any issues. The exchange rate provided by them was better than provided by money exchange shops. Supun used to proactively remove Lankan currency cash from ATMs for us and send our INR to Mr Dinesh. This is actually a very big help in a foreign land.
6. Supun is a very experienced tour guide who has a vast historic knowledge about each place in Sri Lanka. He shared many fascinating stories with us. Along with being an excellent tour guide, Supun is also a highly proficient driver. He drove very safely. So many times, animals suddenly appear on the road out of nowhere but not even a single time did Supun hit any animal. He was always extremely alert. We talking or listening to music or even napping in the car did not distract Supun from driving safely.
7. Supun was very considerate about my old parents, wherever there was a bumpy road, Supun used to slow down the speed and drive the car so carefully that we did not feel even a single jerk in 12 days.
8. Here are the highlights where Supun actually went above and beyond his job and that too without us requesting him to -
a) When we saw the Lotus tower shining in Colombo city, we requested Supun to take us to that point from where we can click pictures of the tower. He took us to exactly that point from where we got great pictures.
b) On the day of our visit to the Nagadeepa island in Jaffna peninsula, there was a Tamil festival which we were unaware of. Because of this there was massie crowd and hardly any parking space for cars. In Spite of this, Supun took the car to the point from where we got the boats so that my old parents wouldn't have to walk. Supun was waiting for us at the entrance when we came back to Jaffna after visiting Nagadeepa island. He waited for us at the entrance so that it was easy for us to spot him in the huge crowd. Yes, this is unbelievable! He is so good.
c) At Trincomalee, for the main temple visit one needs to walk uphill 700 meters from the car parking. Supun requested a traffic police officer and took permission for an Auto Rickshaw so that my elderly parents don't have to walk those 700 meters. Supun even arranged an Auto rickshaw for us.
d) At Ritigala hill, there was an uphill trekking required. It was a little tough for elderly people. When Supun sensed this, he bought a ticket for himself without me even asking him to do it. He then, along with me assisted my parents for the uphill climb. How impressive is that!
e) At Dunuwila, to reach the exact Dunuwila lake, there was a bumpy mountain dirt road and it was impossible to take a car on that road. Supun did not only arrange a good quality Auto Rickshaw for us but also accompanied us in that Rickshaw by sitting with the Rickshaw driver in the small front seat. He chose to not leave us alone in that remote deserted place and came with us even though it was raining heavily.
f) When my Parents expressed the desire to visit a few historic places in the city of Kandy (which I initially had removed from the itinerary), Supun was super accommodative and managed the routes and time in a way that we could actually visit the Sacred Temple of Tooth Relic in Kandy and explore few other places of tourist interests. Supen even took us to a reputed shop of the famous Sri Lankan "Gemstones" for shopping in Kandy. He also found a nice pure vegetarian restaurant for us.
g) There is a very steep incline to reach Ramboda waterfalls, Supun arranged a small local truck for my parents so that they don't have to walk.
h) At the Botanical garden near Ramboda, Supun proactively suggested that we rent an electric cart to roam around the huge garden. We agreed and this suggestion of Supun saved us from kilometers of walking.
i) At our resort in Ella, the people in the adjacent room were playing loud music which was disturbing us. When I informed Supun, he immediately contacted the receptionist and made sure that the people in the adjacent room turned off the music. Such a relief!
j) At the Ravan Falls in Ella, Supun again chose to accompany us when he felt that it wouldn't be safe to send us alone as the trail was a little slippery.
k) To reach "Seetha Kotuwa", a 1 Km long very steep uphill and downhill strenuous trek is needed. There is no marked trail or sign boards. It was super tough and dangerous. I felt it would be a bad idea to take my parents on that trek. But they were adamant to go! Supun is such a kind soul that he kept holding my mom's hand throughout the trek so that she doesn't slip. He walked at my Mom's slow pace without getting irritated. He really has so much patience and knows how to treat senior citizens. I am grateful to Supun's parents who have raised him so well. He won our hearts that day.
l) Private vehicles are not allowed to go till the Kataragama temple parking unless they have a permit. But Supun somehow convinced the traffic police officer and thus saved us 2 kms of walking!
m) Ussangoda is a place where Ravana's airport used to be and it is believed that Lord Hanuman had burnt that airport. Very few people visit this place. I had added it to my itinerary as we found it very fascinating. Here also Supun accompanied my parents during the whole stretch of this burnt barren land.
n) Supun also informed us about a very beautiful boat ride near Bentota which we earlier did not know about. He took us to the point from where this 1.5 hours long boat ride starts. We completely enjoyed this add-on.
o) Supun always stopped the car whenever we wanted to buy fruits, coconut water, water bottles, souvenirs or for toilet breaks.
p) Supun knew all those places in every city from where we could buy Sri Lanka's famous home made organic curd. So, we used to buy fresh curd daily.
q) Supun always kept the vehicle clean and fueled and kept checking the tyre pressure periodically. He even changed one of the tyres when he felt that the tyre pressure had reduced. He takes full care of the safety.
r) Because of our very demanding tour itinerary, so many times Supun could not eat breakfast/lunch on time but not even a single time did he complain.
s) On the last day of our tour, we wanted to buy famous Sri Lanka coffee, Supun took us to many shops so that we could choose the brand we wanted to buy. He then dropped us at the airport on time and where we said him a good bye.
"Lanka Safe" tour company goes above and beyond to give you an excellent travel experience and the name "Lanka Safe" completely suits them as they make sure that you stay "safe" and "happy" in their country. During the trip, Mr Dinesh used to call me occasionally and say - I have called you to know if you and your parents are "happy" and can we do something more to make you even more "happy". Such is their commitment and dedication. Me and my Parents indeed came back home super happy and we thoroughly enjoyed our vacation with Supun.
With a very hardworking team, customer centric approach, professionalism, efficiency in planning, vast experience and knowledge, affordable pricing, proactiveness, flexibility, zeal to go above and beyond, Lanka Safe has indeed got everything right. With the right attitude and helping nature, Mr Dinesh and Mr Supun are at the top of their games. I am someone who has traveled extensively globally and is hard to impress. So trust me you can never go wrong with "Lanka Safe". They are indeed the rank number 1 tour company in Sri Lanka (and this I say after evaluating 5 other top market players in Sri Lanka and as based on my tour experience). I highly recommend "Lanka Safe" tours and wish them all the best.

The best part was that the Lanka Safe team provided free Wi-Fi inside the vehicle during the whole course of the trip.... and Man!! This Wi-Fi works even in the forest areas :) And that's why we didn't need to buy a Sri Lanka SIM card as we were easily able to contact family and friends using vehicle Wi-Fi during the day and resort Wi-Fi during the night. No other Sri Lanka tour company provided this facility.
8. To my surprise, the vehicle insurance and the insurance for all the passengers was taken care of by Lanka Safe. Because of this we didn't have to take separate health insurance for our stay in Sri Lanka. This saved us a lot of money. None of the other tour companies had this health insurance included.
9. 1 complimentary mineral water bottle was offered to each of us during each day of our trip by Lanka Safe. No other Sri Lanka tour companies had this included at such a reasonable tour package cost.
Tour Experience -
1. We were received at the Colombo airport by Mr Supun who was our tour guide cum driver for the whole trip. I feel extreme happiness in saying that Mr Supun so far is the best tour guide/driver I had. And this I say after exploring 20 plus countries with different tour agencies and tour guides/drivers. Supun was on time and welcomed us with beautiful garland made of sea shells. Oh, we felt so welcomed in a foreign land!
2. Supn then loaded our luggage in the big and comfortable car sent by Mr Dinesh. He had already switched on the AC of the car so that we don't have to bear the Lankan heat even for a minute. And our super fun trip started with an extremely proficient driver Supun.
3. Few observations about Mr Supun - He is extremely polite, well behaved, well mannered, super punctual (was not late even by a minute on any day), always kept the vehicle clean by daily washing it, proficient in English, clicks very good pictures (knows how to use a DSLR camera), is trained in reading Google Maps, has a very good sense of directions, has very good local contacts, knows where the vegetarian/vegan restaurants are located in each city, did not drink or smoke during the complete trip, he does not drive while on the phone, follows all the traffic rules, has excellent knowledge about national highways as well as small village routes, knows where good shopping market is located, helped us in bargaining the prices with locals, always had an infectious smile on his face, made us feel super comfortable, was very flexible in a way that if we said we want to start the day at 6 am, he would get ready with the cleaned vehicle by 5:45 am without any complains.
4. When we ran out of Lankan currency during shopping, Supun immediately took out his wallet and offered us his Lankan currency which we returned to him later. Such a thoughtful act!
5. As we had taken INR currency to Sri Lanka, Mr Dinesh and Mr Thakshala were kind enough to send Mr Supun Lankan currency in exchange of our INR so that we do not face any issues. The exchange rate provided by them was better than provided by money exchange shops. Supun used to proactively remove Lankan currency cash from ATMs for us and send our INR to Mr Dinesh. This is actually a very big help in a foreign land.
6. Supun is a very experienced tour guide who has a vast historic knowledge about each place in Sri Lanka. He shared many fascinating stories with us. Along with being an excellent tour guide, Supun is also a highly proficient driver. He drove very safely. So many times, animals suddenly appear on the road out of nowhere but not even a single time did Supun hit any animal. He was always extremely alert. We talking or listening to music or even napping in the car did not distract Supun from driving safely.
7. Supun was very considerate about my old parents, wherever there was a bumpy road, Supun used to slow down the speed and drive the car so carefully that we did not feel even a single jerk in 12 days.
8. Here are the highlights where Supun actually went above and beyond his job and that too without us requesting him to -
a) When we saw the Lotus tower shining in Colombo city, we requested Supun to take us to that point from where we can click pictures of the tower. He took us to exactly that point from where we got great pictures.
b) On the day of our visit to the Nagadeepa island in Jaffna peninsula, there was a Tamil festival which we were unaware of. Because of this there was massie crowd and hardly any parking space for cars. In Spite of this, Supun took the car to the point from where we got the boats so that my old parents wouldn't have to walk. Supun was waiting for us at the entrance when we came back to Jaffna after visiting Nagadeepa island. He waited for us at the entrance so that it was easy for us to spot him in the huge crowd. Yes, this is unbelievable! He is so good.
c) At Trincomalee, for the main temple visit one needs to walk uphill 700 meters from the car parking. Supun requested a traffic police officer and took permission for an Auto Rickshaw so that my elderly parents don't have to walk those 700 meters. Supun even arranged an Auto rickshaw for us.
d) At Ritigala hill, there was an uphill trekking required. It was a little tough for elderly people. When Supun sensed this, he bought a ticket for himself without me even asking him to do it. He then, along with me assisted my parents for the uphill climb. How impressive is that!
e) At Dunuwila, to reach the exact Dunuwila lake, there was a bumpy mountain dirt road and it was impossible to take a car on that road. Supun did not only arrange a good quality Auto Rickshaw for us but also accompanied us in that Rickshaw by sitting with the Rickshaw driver in the small front seat. He chose to not leave us alone in that remote deserted place and came with us even though it was raining heavily.
f) When my Parents expressed the desire to visit a few historic places in the city of Kandy (which I initially had removed from the itinerary), Supun was super accommodative and managed the routes and time in a way that we could actually visit the Sacred Temple of Tooth Relic in Kandy and explore few other places of tourist interests. Supen even took us to a reputed shop of the famous Sri Lankan "Gemstones" for shopping in Kandy. He also found a nice pure vegetarian restaurant for us.
g) There is a very steep incline to reach Ramboda waterfalls, Supun arranged a small local truck for my parents so that they don't have to walk.
h) At the Botanical garden near Ramboda, Supun proactively suggested that we rent an electric cart to roam around the huge garden. We agreed and this suggestion of Supun saved us from kilometers of walking.
i) At our resort in Ella, the people in the adjacent room were playing loud music which was disturbing us. When I informed Supun, he immediately contacted the receptionist and made sure that the people in the adjacent room turned off the music. Such a relief!
j) At the Ravan Falls in Ella, Supun again chose to accompany us when he felt that it wouldn't be safe to send us alone as the trail was a little slippery.
k) To reach "Seetha Kotuwa", a 1 Km long very steep uphill and downhill strenuous trek is needed. There is no marked trail or sign boards. It was super tough and dangerous. I felt it would be a bad idea to take my parents on that trek. But they were adamant to go! Supun is such a kind soul that he kept holding my mom's hand throughout the trek so that she doesn't slip. He walked at my Mom's slow pace without getting irritated. He really has so much patience and knows how to treat senior citizens. I am grateful to Supun's parents who have raised him so well. He won our hearts that day.
l) Private vehicles are not allowed to go till the Kataragama temple parking unless they have a permit. But Supun somehow convinced the traffic police officer and thus saved us 2 kms of walking!
m) Ussangoda is a place where Ravana's airport used to be and it is believed that Lord Hanuman had burnt that airport. Very few people visit this place. I had added it to my itinerary as we found it very fascinating. Here also Supun accompanied my parents during the whole stretch of this burnt barren land.
n) Supun also informed us about a very beautiful boat ride near Bentota which we earlier did not know about. He took us to the point from where this 1.5 hours long boat ride starts. We completely enjoyed this add-on.
o) Supun always stopped the car whenever we wanted to buy fruits, coconut water, water bottles, souvenirs or for toilet breaks.
p) Supun knew all those places in every city from where we could buy Sri Lanka's famous home made organic curd. So, we used to buy fresh curd daily.
q) Supun always kept the vehicle clean and fueled and kept checking the tyre pressure periodically. He even changed one of the tyres when he felt that the tyre pressure had reduced. He takes full care of the safety.
r) Because of our very demanding tour itinerary, so many times Supun could not eat breakfast/lunch on time but not even a single time did he complain.
s) On the last day of our tour, we wanted to buy famous Sri Lanka coffee, Supun took us to many shops so that we could choose the brand we wanted to buy. He then dropped us at the airport on time and where we said him a good bye.

During the trip, Mr Dinesh used to call me occasionally and say - I have called you to know if you and your parents are "happy" and can we do something more to make you even more "happy". Such is their commitment and dedication. Me and my Parents indeed came back home super happy and we thoroughly enjoyed our vacation with Supun.

Our group was six adults. We did a personalized tour with Dinesh as our driver. He drives very expertly, even in the wildest heavy traffic. The sights, hotels, and food were all excellent. Dinesh attended to our requests and needs in a very timely and professional manner. The van was very comfortable and kept clean, with water available as needed. We always felt safe and well taken care of! Thank you, Denish for a lovely holiday.
