From the moment we landed in Sri Lanka, we felt completely at ease with Asanka. Overtired from travelling, we were grateful to step into his clean, air-conditioned van and be given a cold bottle of water and left to take in the Sri Lankan countryside in peace as we made the long journey to our first location with Asanka occasionally pointing out objects of interest ( which included an elephant walking by the side of the road!) The itinerary he had devised from our suggestions was perfect and allowed us to see as much as possible while still allowing us time to relax at our various accommodations. He pitched our accommodation perfectly and we had an excellent selection of mid-range hotels which were perfectly located for the sights. We loved having him alongside us sharing his vast knowledge of Sri Lankan ancient history and flora and fauna . He allowed us to see so much of his beautiful country and took any stress out of travelling including suggesting how much we tip which was so helpful. Apart from the sights we knew we had planned on our intinerary, Asanka would ask us if we were interested in seeing other sights of interest as we drove e.g. a tour of a spice garden, water monitor lizards etc. In the short time we spent with Asanka, we all grew very fond of him and loved his sense of humour too. We also appreciated his values on conservation and the environment. When he dropped us at our beach stay for the last five days of our holiday, we found ourselves feeling sad to see him go and also wondering how we would survive without him at our side! Even when we were at the beach location, he was regularly messaging to check everything was ok. We cannot recommend Asanka highly enough – he absolutely made our holiday and has allowed us to make so many lifetime memories as a family.

We had the pleasure of having Asanka as our driver and guide on a 19 day tour of his beautiful country. As well as being a very good driver his depth of knowledge on all things Sri Lanka is extraordinary. It doesn’t matter whether it is Sri Lankan history, religion or the amazing wildlife the country has to offer his knowledge is truly impressive. He is very good natured and always has a ready smile. We cannot recommend his services highly enough and if you are lucky enough to get him for your trip you won’t regret it

We had the best holiday ever in Sri Lanka!
Sri Lanka is such a special country full of so much incredible nature, wildlife, scenery, and the most lovely people. Asanka was the best guide we could’ve asked for and made our trip unforgettable!
Having Asanka took all the stress out of planning and organising our 10 day trip. He curated our entire itinerary and was so accommodating for any changes we wished to make. He booked us some incredible hotels that we would’ve never found ourselves and the travel between areas was made so easy in his comfortable air-conditioned vehicle.
Asanka has a wealth of knowledge about Sri Lankan culture, food, wildlife, history and so much more. Our trip was a perfect balance of activities and relaxing time (we love the beach!).
We wouldn’t change anything about our trip. Thank you Asanka!

The guided tour with Asanka was absolutely incredible. I went with my girlfriend and after about 8 days, we both agreed that this was the best vacation we had ever been on. Sri Lanka is a stunningly beautiful place, but the experience was twice as good because of Asanka.
Asanka was responsive and helpful from the first time we messaged him. He explained that he would tailor our trip depending on the time of the year, to avoid places with strong rainfall. Once he knew our time, he quickly sent us an itinerary and asked us for feedback and any changes we might want to make.
We arrived in Sri Lanka at midnight. Asanka was there to pick us up with a calm smile. He knew how to deal with tired tourists. He was kind and direct, he knew when to speak and when to give us space.
The itinerary was a a spectacular mix of nature, history and fun. We were exposed to more nature and wild animals than I anticipated! Both in the Safaris in the national parks, but also in the drives between different destinations. Asanka has an impressive depth of knowledge. He was able to tell us details and scientific information about different types of plants, trees and animals.
Askana seems to know everything about Sri Lankan culture and history. He had so much information memorized about every historical place we went. He knew the ancient tales, the names of kings, the time periods of different dynasties, dimensions of castles, populations of ancient monastic sights and so much more. It felt like he was an AI bot and I could ask him anything and he would have an answer!
Most importantly Asanka is a local citizen of Sri Lanka. Everywhere we went, we felt intertwined with the local community. There were no big branded hotels, or restaurants or tourist traps. We interacted with the various local communities, everyone seemed to know and respect Asanka. I was only there for 11 full days, but I feel like, because of Asanka, it became my home in a way. I experienced this rich land and culture alongside the people who made it.
This trip with Asanka was one of the most memorable experiences of my life. I will be referring Asanka to everyone and anyone I know who wants to have a memorable vacation!

Asanka was very helpful in planning our 15 night trip to Sri Lanka, with many emails to finalise same.
Unfortunately by the time I booked, Asanka had committed to another family, but promised another one of his drivers. We were very fortunate to meet Ranjana, who took care of our every need, including a reluctant asthmathic climbing Pidurangala, Sigiriya & Little Adams Peak.
The guides to historical sites, Stuppas, Temples and monasteries were very informative and answered all our questions in Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa, Dambulla cave temple & Temple of the tooth in Kandy.
Thanks to Ranjanas remarkable vision and the guides at Wilpattu National Park, we were able to see a Black Bear for over 10 min, spend in excess of 30 min watching a leopard at the side of the road along with wild boar, buffalo, monkeys, mongoose, rabbit, haws, owl, heron, kingfishers, green beeater bird, pelicans peacocks and a crocodile on the other side of the lake. Apologies for the animals I forgot to mention. On the way back to our hotel we saw wild elephants by the lakeside.
Then on to Minneriya National Park with probably 200 elephants and water buffaloes. A truly amazing experience.
Ranjana is an exceptional person, full of kindness and looked after us very well.
We stayed mostly in hotels recommended by Asanka, a special recommendation and mention to Arachchi Hotel in Anuradhapura & The Other Corner in Habarana, where the menu was extensive but the food was delicious and wish chef Amiz would cook for us daily.
Sri Lanka was a holiday of a lifetime thanks to Asanka and Ranjana for making all our wishes come true.

Amazing trip, beautiful country and we got to see the best of Sri Lanka within the short time we had (10 days). I'd highly recommend Knows Lanka Tours as a tour provider. Great communication, itinerary was spot on and the accommodation was perfect for what we wanted. They took the stress out of planning and booking everything ourselves and having the driver at hand made travelling so comfortable and easy! The only recommendation I'd have is perhaps add another rest day if you want to incorporation some R&R if you have travelled a distance to get there, perhaps 3 rest days with no activities or tours.

Asanka was the most amazing driver and tour guide we could have asked for. He was so organised and made our 2 weeks travelling Sri Lanka so easy. Asanka’s knowledge of the wildlife and birds is phenomenal. We had such an amazing time with him on safari, pointing out animals and birds that we’d never spot! We learned so much about beautiful Sri Lanka on every journey with him. We always felt safe and confident with Asanka’s plans, he was always organised for any events. I would recommend Asanka to anyone thinking of traveling to Sri Lanka. He takes out the hassle of traveling. His car is spotlessly clean and very comfortable. He is a kind, funny man who will enlighten you to the best that Sri Lanka has to offer.

We had a fantastic and stress free trip with Asanka. We felt safe and very comfortable and we were able to adapt our plans on a daily basis to see different things. The van was very comfortable and we were able to get around easily in spite of the difficulties with fuel.

We organised our seven day tour with Asanka prior to leaving the UK. Email and WhatsApp correspondence was prompt and detailed.
He picked us up from Unawatuna and from the beginning, it was clear Asanka was a great guy, he has a great sense of humour and fun to be with.
His vehicle was clean, comfortable with plenty of room and his English is brilliant.
He has immense knowledge of the animals, history, fauna and flora and an incredible passion for his country.
Asanka is interested in his clients likes and dislikes and recommended some great places to eat and see, and gave us opportunities to experience other things en route, which were not on the initial itinerary.
Asanka was everything and more from a tour guide. He went above and beyond our expectations.
I would not hesitate in recommending Asanka and when we return to Sri Lanka, we will definantly be meeting up with him again for another tour.

My husband and I decided to book with Asanka @ Knows Lanka Tours & Travel for a recent holiday in Sri Lanka. I emailed Asanka with what we would like to do and he quickly replied with an itinerary for us.
Asanka is a very skilled driver (glad we didn’t have to drive), speaks excellent English and is very knowledgeable and passionate about his country. He recommended some great places to eat, the best things to see and was very flexible if you wanted to change something.
Asanka was great company and we really enjoyed the time we spent with him. We would highly recommend him if you are looking for someone to show you the best of Sri Lanka.
Unfortunately, our trip was cut short due to Covid 19 and we only got to see and do half the things we were hoping to do. Asanka went above and beyond at this very difficult time to make sure we were safe and informed with what was happening.
Thankyou Asanka for looking after us at a very stressful time for both you and your family, we hope to be able to visit Sri Lanka again soon and we will definitely be in touch so we can finish what we started!
