We did a full day trip from Cairo with EmoTours. I saw some of the negative reviews, but we had nothing but a great experience. They were prompt at pick up at our hotel early morning and we had cold water in the van. We stopped for tea at the camp before starting our adventure of the valley and the desert. Wear your swimsuit if you want to swim in the Magic Lake (or at least shorts if you want to wade in). We enjoyed a basic, but filling lunch at the camp site when we finished. We had read other reviews that told us the lunch was served late (2-3pm) so we came prepared with lots of extra water and snacks to tide us over until then. It's amazing to see all the whale bones in the middle of the desert (and think the museum ticket, which is an extra $10 pp is worth it). The waterfall was a bit of a let down, but still seeing the touristy site in the middle of the desert was cool. I'd recommend this trip if you don't have time to do the White Desert (or don't have the desire to camp in the desert overnight).

This tour is so underrated. We did this on our last day in a Egypt to wrap up our 2 weeks and it was the best way to end our trip. I guess because not a lot of people go, we practically had the entire desert to our selves. Actually, we did have the place to ourselves. Most of the time we did not see any other people around. That silence is amazing after all the noise from Cairo. The desert is absolutely gorgeous. Then we got to see whale fossils that were found in the middle of the desert in Egypt!
If that wasn’t breath taking enough, you go to see a lake and oasis complete with a waterfall. Then we had the best food I had in Egypt. The drives there and back are long, maybe 2-3 hours?
You get a “photo guide” which I was nervous about because we did have some bad guides but it made sense. It’s the middle of the desert, no monuments or buildings. But he was friendly and very funny.

私人独享的小轿车之旅，酒店门对门接送。到了鲸鱼谷以后换乘四驱车在沙漠中行进，逛了鲸鱼谷、瀑布，进行了很多次的冲沙活动，整个这一天非常好，午饭也很好吃。这是我们在埃及的行程中玩得最舒服的一天，我给五星好评！

With this tour we had an unforgettable experience in the desert. Egypt has so much to offer and this piece of heaven crowns it all. In an unique landscape we climbed on rocks, we swam in the scenic lake, learnt about evolution, drove the 4x4 like a rollercoaster and ate like the beduins. Along we had our magnificent guide Tolba, who carried all the way about our well-being and contributed a lot to our fun, together with Adel who drove the 4x4 sooo cool. I recommend Tolba as the perfect guide for this amazing trip! So cooool!!!

The tour to the Valley of the Whales was more fun then expected, and the lunch was the very best meal we had in Egypt. Mohamed Salah, our guide is very knowledgeable and speaks very good English. Our driver was Mohamed Hosney, and he is an expert Cairo driver!! Overall, I was very pleased with the excursion.

We had a wonderful day! Great experience! I never imagined a waterfall or lakes at a desert. The surroundings were beautiful. Our guide Mohamed Salah was extremely knowledgeable and a fun person to be around. The driver Mohamed Hosney kept us safe with the crazy traffic. They are just the nicest people. I would highly recommend this tour.

I highly recommend you take this day tour outside of Cairo and into the Sahara Desert-what an unforgettable experience! We had a great guide-Sayed Hamdy and he made the day so much fun! Egypt is full of wonder and ancient things and bustling cities, but this is something different and it is nice to see a different part of Egypt. We took a nice mini-bus to our entrance to the desert (with police escort for much of it for safety) and then took a Jeep/Land Cruiser racing across the desert-literally! Lots of fun on the sand dunes and crazy spinning in the sand which was unexpected and so fun. It felt so free to be in the middle of the desert. The Valley of Whales was very interesting and the waterfalls were so strange to see (the only ones in Egypt I think) in such an arid environment. We made a stop near Magic Lake and did the most fun thing we did in Egypt-Sand Surfing!! Well, we mostly actually just sat on the board and sort of went "sledding" down the sand dune but it was SO much fun! We were traveling with our 5 year old and she really enjoyed that as well (she went with an adult)-it was one of her favorite things in Egypt. We finished the day with a late lunch in a desert hut where the chicken was cooked in an underground (buried under the sand) bbq pit-the chicken was delicious! It was a great meal before heading back to Cairo. This was different from all of our other Egypt experiences and we are so glad that we went!

I HIGHLY recommend you take this day trip — it is an amazing unique experience which will stand out in your memory unlike the many temples which you will struggle to keep mentally apart. We were the only two people on this tour, and hardly met other tourists in these places. No vendors either! In a way, I feel more people need to learn about this tour and take it. On the other hand, such private nature of it is part of what makes it so special. First, we went to see the incredible huge fossils of ancient whales and other marine life. This was followed by a safari in the sands climbing some huge rocks in a Jeep — my husband thought he was in heaven, but I held for dear life. The view from the top over the clearest lakes was breathtaking. We then went to the Magic Lake where we just waded, but you can really go swimming, and finally — to the picturesque waterfall. Before we headed back, we had an authentic Egyptian family-style meal sitting on the floor pillows around a low table with our tour guide and the drivers. The meal is included in the tour as well. A fantastic trip all around!
P.S. I would recommend taking some toilet paper with you since you will be in remote areas, and it may not be always available.

Absolutely amazing! Went to the Valley of Whales, saw the Magic Lake, and the Wadi El Rayan Waterfalls. 4-Wheeling through the Fayoum desert!! It was really an amazing experience!

There are things that you must see (like pyramids and Egyptian museum) and things you will remember for very long. This tour is the second one. It's not too popular, but you definitely should extend your stay in Cairo for at least one day to go to the desert and valley of whales.
Walking in the middle of Sahara while casually stepping on 40 million year old fossils and having chance to see skeletons of whales/dolphins with legs is an experience for life. Add to that building of the museum according to traditional ways of building - and you will find yourself in the middle of Tatooine. After that you get to have stunning views of lakes surrounded by desert and some jeep riding on sand. I think you can also ride a snowboard on sand, but we didn't take that since we were travelling with 5 year old daughter.
Both drivers (one takes you from the hotel to the desert, another one drives the jeep around the desert) were nice and helpful. Jeep was a bit old, but comfortable enough.
While experience is absolutely stunning there were couple of setbacks. They were not bad enough to reduce our enjoyment, but they are things to consider.
The price seems to be a bit too high and it does not include tickets. The latter was an absolute surprise for us as we took limited amount of cash to the trip. It's a bit strange not to include 10-15 dollars in to the price of a 250 bucks tour. I'm sure it will not affect desicion if it costed 265 dollars, but without a hassle of paying on site for tickets.
The guide was ok, he was very friendly and helpful, adapted the trip according to our requests, and he even brought some materials to tell a bit on history of pyramids, but overall was not very informative. The trip doesn't suppose a lot of storytelling, but wikipedia articles told us a lot more about the sites than guided tour.
There are several tours at nearly the same price from different companies and you definitely should take one of them, although I'm not sure which will be the best organisationally wise.
