We had an amazing pilgrimage with this wonderful company which lasted 15 days. We were able to spend our time very peacefully and if any problems were to arise, we were able to be in contact very quickly with the travel agent who understood our needs very well.

This was a private tour the organization and attention to detail was fabulous. Our guide was very experienced and helped us adjust tot the altitude. He also guided us thru the Lora hike with focus on safety. He was very knowledgeable in local lore and was patient in explaining the same. Highly recommend.

I planned my trip with Great Tibet Travels last year (2019) during July. This trip has changed my life for the better. The tour company and the tour guide Darghye were wonderful. During my 3 day trek, Darghye walked beside me to the most part and gave commentary. This man is knowledgeable and knows what he is talking about.
Darghye kept an eye on all members on the tour and periodically asked us how we are doing altitude sickness wise.
Remember while doing the trek, think positive and take baby steps and this may change your life for the better.
Regarding the tour company they were kind enough to upgrade my hotel location at a couple of locations for no extra charge.
Trek Planning - Fitness:
I am a New Yorker and moderately fit. Before going on this trip, never in my life walked more than 5 miles a day. I started off with walking 9K to 10K steps per day at a moderate pace for a few weeks. I took it to the next level by walking around central park - this takes about 16K steps in about 3.5 hours and this I used to do every weekend. Since we lived in a high raised building, every day I used to climb stairs (sometimes 10 floors and sometimes 20 floors). Maybe a few times I walked on the treadmill in the Gym with inclination set to 14 for about 15 minutes.
Trek Planning - Medication:
I scheduled an appointment with my PCP - got the prescription for diamox and antibiotics. I also took with me tylenol, motrin, a miniverion of first aid kit.
Trek Planning - General:
You can read as much as you want on fitness but one should learn to know and listen to ones’ body. I carried some nuts and granola bars and do not forget ponchos
Trek - Altitude Sickness:
Diamox will do its job and you do your job. Remember to take it easy the first few days, no need to run or get excited, let me body adapt. My mantra initially was to walk like a snail, take small steps (remember to listen to your body and keep your mind in a positive state).
I did get headaches and took tylenol.

Overall, Great Tibet Tour provided us a wonderful trip through a very beautiful part of the world which included the 3 day Kora around Mt. Kailash.
Our guide Tashi was a very knowledgeable regarding the places, customs, traditions and Buddhist beliefs. He constantly made great efforts to make sure we had everything we need all hours of the day and night.
Our driver Pemba was very professional and consistent in his role of getting all of us safely from destination to destination.
When setting up the tour, our contact from GTT Beatrice was fantastic to work with. Her prompt, friendly, warm and diligent customer service.
There were some minor issues along the way due to lack of proper communication from the company but were resolved quickly.
Would recommend GTT for anyone wanting to see the wonder that is Tibet.

Finally, we come back home. We are very pleased with our Tibet tour, even if I am a little bit tired.
Thanks for excellent service and cooperation proving by Great Tibet Tour. I will contact Great Tibet Tour for my next China tour in 2022.
We have two guides for the whole tour. One is Dajie who picks us up at the airport; the other is Lobsang who helps us with the sightseeing in Tibet. Dajie is fantastic and knowledgeable. Lobsang is humorous and helpful. We are both pleased with these two guides. The guide plays an important role on the whole tour. Our driver is very skillful. We feel safe in his car.
We are looking forward to my next Tibet trip with Great Tibet Tour.

I did an adjusted 12 day tour of Tibet, from Lhasa to Everest, and then through to Mt Kailash for the kora trek, and then to the Nepali border to head to Kathmandu. I took the train from Beijing to acclimatize to the altitude, which was a very good idea. This trip was in early June, and we had spectacular weather throughout. This trip was made to be great by our tour guide, Lobsang, who was friendly, knowledgeable, and great at answering all questions necessary. The driver, Pasa, provided great transport. Thanks again to Cherry, for organising this trip, and assisting with extra questions throughout the organisation of the trip, and during the trip. This tour group is a great size. We had 9 people on our tour, which was perfect. Highly recommended.

After the impressive voyage by train from Chengdu via Xining to Lhasa (the uncertainty about availibility of train tickets was increased til the utmost) an warm welcome of our tourguide Labsong and his skilful companion and driver Pasha made disappear all doubts about our trip. We experienced an amazing fortnight on the roof of the world. Wel planned excellent explanations and the 4star arrangement appeared to be a good choice; the accomodation met our expecations. Especially during the Kora Labsong did his very best to arrange a good place to spend the night. One of the best most heavy experiences was passing the 5630 Drolma La in snow and hail together with innumerable pilgrims.

My family with two young adults send heartfelt thanks to Beatrice for superb organization, prompt and helpful service, and to Tashi and Pemba (our Tibetan guide and driver) for their friendliness, politeness, and professionalism. Tashi spoke excellent English. Beatrice managed to organize a visa for China in three days from Kathmandu, a feat in itself. We were picked up at the airport in Lhasa and greeted with our Tibet permits there. Seemingly miraculously, everything ran smoothly.
We liked the faded Yak Hotel in Lhasa (sheets were clean, beds comfortable, breakfasts fine) for its traditional feel and proximity to Old Lhasa. We found interesting streets to discover on both sides of the main street. PS: The time to visit Lhasa is now: before the vast forests of high-rise apartment buildings that the Chinese are rapidly building get filled up with new immigrants and Tibet loses its authenticity and charm (if nothing else...). We enjoyed touring the monasteries with the information provided by our guide. PS. Don't go to Tibet expecting Dalai Lama level enlightenment... The "Buddhism" would make Siddhartha Gautama (and most Dalai Lamas) spin in their grave: not the slightest bit about self-transcendence through meditation; mostly about mindless recitation of sutras, superstition, religious hypocrisy of the usual sort (big gold monuments to the Buddha), and money. (Donations, we were told, go to the government, which then gives a salary to the monks ...who then use it to buy their cellphones.)
The hotel in Shigatze was equally clean and comfortable, and the "welcome dinner" we were treated to there as part of our tour was fantastic (we had to pay for the guide and driver's dinners, which was fine, but a welcome dinner should provide also for the ones doing the welcoming...). The rest of the accommodations were very rudimentary. The tents at the EBC were charming (albeit smoke-filled); I could not bring myself to use the toilets. The sunset and sunrise on Mount Everest were lucky and worth the whole trip. The guesthouse in Darchen was extremely basic, the hole-in-the-ground toilets smelly, the showers too uninviting to contemplate. The guesthouses at Mount Kailash were frankly disgustingly dirty.
Since we had a 10-seater minibus all to ourselves, our journey was very comfortable; but I would not have wanted, and could not have bore, another person in there. The lengthy 10-hour several days there-and-back road trip between Lhasa and Mount Kailash was anywhere from boring to exhilarating, depending on which one of us you ask and how many days we had been on it (personally, I could only take so much of brown, leaf-less desert plateau day after day, while my husband was entranced throughout). The kora around Mount Kailash took my sons two half days, while my husband and I stayed in Darchen due to altitude sickness (my silly husband having not taken the Diamox we had with us...) There was zilch to do in Darchen and our 3-day stay there felt endless; this was due to the Chinese authorities not allowing us to go anywhere but the four blocks that constitute Darchen.
Our guides stopped along the road for numerous photo opportunities; one highlight of the return was a very interesting stop at a lovely incense producing village.
The food along the trip was much better and varied than we had been told to expect. When we got tired of too much of the same, our guide and driver went out of their way to locate comfort foods. We were provided with as much water as we wanted, and there was an oxygen supply that thankfully we didn't require. (I do recommend Diamox: it's high and the air is thin!)
All told, it was a well-organized (if highly inflexible), comfortable enough, interesting adventure at the top of the world. I highly recommend it NOW, before the Chinese ruin it with megaprojects evidently ongoing everywhere.

I thank the agency for wonderful two weeks in remote parts of Tibet. I have visited Guge Kingdom while my two companions went on kora around Kailash. Before that EBC and all up to Kailash. We were lucky with the weather, what is very important in these areas. Guides and drivers were very professional and friendly, all went smoothly and easy. I highly recommend Great Tibet Tour and hope to travel with them to some other remote parts of Tibet.

Do you have an Office in Kathmandu? Please confirm the Cost in Cdn$. Does this include permits, meals and entry fees? Do you need a Kailash Permit. What are the October Departure Dates. I would like to start in Kathmandu and make my way to Lhasa.

Is there alot of walking or just the normal amount? Do not want to be hiking over mountains..please let me know.
Skrevet 28. juni 2019
no hiking at all between Lhasa and Mount Kailash, indeed hardly any walking. Once you get to Darchen, bus takes you to foot of Mount Kailash where the kora begins. First day of kora: 2-3 hours walking, mostly flat. Second day of kora: 10 hour walking, because going over two high passes (sounds like this part it not for you: very hard because of thin air). Third day of kora: 2 hours walking, mosty flat. You could stay in Darchen during the kora, but beware: not much to do there!
