Long stop over in lounge

Came in to relax in the lounge, was greeted by eng, who made to delicious Singapore slings, a perfect treat for a long lay over. Makes me want to come back to Singapore and not just stop over.

Food was perfect in the buffet aswell.

Can not wait to come back.

Getting a seat is quite a 'feet'

On the last day of our 2 week holiday, we decided to treat ourselves to the Plaza Premium Lounge in T1. We paid for 2 spaces in the afternoon, only a few hours before our anticipated 2000hrs arrival at the lounge.

Our check in and baggage drop went smoother than anticipated and so we presented ourselves to the lounge almost exactly at our booked slot. It was straight forward to find and is located in a cluster of lounges signed as being on the first floor up an escalator from the shops. Along with Qatar and Emirates lounges (from memory).

Despite having confirmation emails with booking references on, we were told that we should present text messages with QR codes on. Not paying for international roaming on my mobile, I had not received these QR codes and wasn't aware that I needed them. Eventually the staff member was able to find us on the system. We were then told "It is rather busy, it would be better if you came back later on".
Are we meant to come back later on once we had started boarding or once we were airborne? Those were the next two things we had to do. We had paid for 3 hours (the minimum available) but with boarding vs check-in times, could only realistically expect to use the lounge for 2hrs 30, so being told to come back later is a bit of an insult.

We insisted that we be allowed entry as it was our booked time and so were allowed in.

Despite being told to come back later, the next customer behind us wanted to pay there and then to be allowed in. This was granted. But how was this permitted when it was now even busier? Then a queue formed and at least 20 more persons were granted entry behind us. It seems a lot of people have access through credit card status / lounge membership and they turn up at will.

The lounge is a reasonable size, but not big by any measure. There are a number of high tables and chairs for more convenient dining but also lots of lower individual sofa chairs and small corner chairs with small tables that while they looked fun, were terrible to sit in. There are some individual working stations and also some semi circular booths with a table in the middle of them. Several of these booths were empty but annoyingly, were 'reserved for families' despite the presence of real customers who were standing around looking for a space compared to several families who might not actually exist that night.

Some positives:

When you could get one, the chairs were comfortable.
Every chair and table appeared to have access to plug sockets for device charging and some had both plug and USB sockets provided.
The seating area was generally darker than the rest of the terminal and this was welcomed for resting. Lots of small lamps were provided at the sides of seats for those who needed them.
Staff inside the lounge (as opposed to the reception staff) were all friendly and helpful.
There were several floor walkers clearing away tables of rubbish, crockery etc. and these members of staff were excellent. Very proactive and quick in their work and constantly going back and forth to clean any available area ready for the next person.
As the windows to the outside world were tinted, you could hardly see anything outside on the runway. However, I believe this would be completely different during the day and there would be an excellent view over one of the runways if this was your thing.
There were a variety of hot and cold food items available and these changed even during our limited time in the lounge.
The cooked food was quite tasty.
A good choice of soft drinks was available on a self serve basis and there was some inclusive alcohol provided from a bar area near the food. Purchases were possible of alcoholic items not included in the entry price

Then the Negatives:

The lounge felt totally oversold and often people were coming in and walking around trying to find a seat and then having to stand around, willing someone else to leave.
Near the windows, the air conditioning was losing the battle with the Singapore evening and this area was very hot (26 degrees displayed on a thermometer) - This was not a pleasant temperature to relax in. Staff said they would try and increase the air conditioning but this was either not carried out or not effective.
The one time I visited the in lounge toilets, they were very messy and with the only bin overflowing.
Many of the sofa chairs had footstools with them. Lots of people decided that this was an appropriate place to remove shoes / socks and place their dirty feet for everyone to see. This could also be next to a complete stranger trying to eat food. I don't feel it would be much to have a policy where staff ask people to keep at least socks on, or maybe provide basic slippers. No one wants to see the soles of a traveller's foot near their food. You don't know where they have come from, how long they have been travelling for or when they last cleaned their feet. Grim, to say the least.
Two TV's were provided on a wall which no chair faced. One of the TV's appeared broken as it had 'ghosting' on the images. Neither had volume or subtitles, so were in effect, completely pointless.

This lounge is accessed prior to going through hand baggage and personal screening / X-Raying (which is done at the individual aircraft gate in Changi). People would leave their bags on a chair to save their seat and then walk off to do some shopping in the Terminal. This was never addressed by staff. In other parts of the world, unattended baggage in an airport is considered a threat and removed. Here, baggage that has not been security checked at all, is fine to be used as method of keeping one's seat. One couple we saw actually left their bags blocking two good seats for over an hour. I think by then it should have been obvious to staff that they weren't both up getting food or using the toilet together.

I suspect that this lounge struggles to know how many people will turn up and expect entry with Credit Card Status or annual lounge subscriptions. So in that case, don't sell access to other people like us and then say it's too busy. Save your seats for your spontaneous customers instead of those who book an actual time slot who you know will be attending.

This lounge could be really good if they only allowed in the number of people they could handle.
I think it is the only lounge in the Terminal that anyone can pay to use. Unlike most airports, Changi is not a bad place to pass time and there was plenty of seating available all over the place. This lounge doesn't really secure you much you couldn't find yourself anyway. It certainly could be a nice and quiet place to relax and may be good value for money if you eat and drink enough while there.

I would consider giving this lounge another go but I would have to hope my time slot coincides with less people being around. There doesn't seem to be any way of knowing when this is though.

Alternatively, how about when you pay for a reserved time slot for two people, that they reserve you two seats for your time slot? Wild thinking I know, but it may catch on!

Absolutely disappointed with the place. Takes more customers than they could cater for. You can hardly find the place to sit. Terminals are much better than here.

Lovely little airport lounge overlooking the runway

Had a 6 hour layover so booked in to Plaza Premium Lounge. Nice selection of food, clean showers (you have to book), comfy seats and Eng at the bar made me the most delicious Singapore Sling. Well priced, would recommend.

They overbook so don’t have enough seats for everyone. They also don’t have footstools for every chair only a couple per 4 or 5 chairs.
The food selection is abysmal.
The cold drinks, very limited selection, are not cold and there is no ice.

Ok for an hour but not if you have a long layover.

Not good value for money at all.

There are not enough staff. Dishes are left sitting around for ages and no tables are cleaned.

I can’t figure how they think they can use “premium” in the title.

Just the share the 9 foot stools that we have are for the front row as the legs space for the front rows seats are more spacious. The cold dinks are placed in the fridge and ice is made available 24/7 at the bar. For the food selection, we have 4 chafing dishes that are running 24/7, ala carte menu , chicken rice, laksa and vegetarian noodles also serving 24/7 with a full salad bar.
