Completing the Inca Trail was a dream I had long ago! As a Latin-American woman growing up in a city where most of the population has indigenous roots and having in my vocabulary some Quechua words, I have always been amazed of the love and respect that Incas had over nature.
I would 100% recommend doing this Trail. It is exciting and challenging. It is all at the same time. The route allows you to enjoy breath-taking landscapes, and the guide tour helps you understand the why's and how's of the Inca heritage. In our case, Claudio, did an excellent job giving us detailed information of the Inca civilization. Besides all the historical aspect, he also shared with us his love for nature and the gratitude that one should have when surrounded by mountains.
Valencia travel is definitely a serious company, which cares about the tourist and their workers, and with that I mean their porters. I want to really emphasize the hard work that the porters carry on along the trail just to provide us with the best comfort possible during the trail. Florentino, our chef, spoiled us with delicious food and warm tees and even desserts (no kidding, he prepared a cake to celebrate my birthday) after our long days. They all just did an amazing job!

This is a great tour and Henry/Genrri does an awesome job as a guide. He is very knowledgeable. The staff was amazing too! The porters are truly incredible as they carry 20kg of gear and food for four days. They also prepared amazing meals and had tons of snacks and hot teas/coffees - the food surpassed expectations for a camping expedition. They also made a cake for my birthday which was totally unexpected.
Wish they were clearer about the tips expected for our group size up front or included it in the up front cost. I did injure my knee at one point - not sure how they handle more serious injuries on the trail as the same pace was maintained for the remainder of the tour. So be ready to push through and be sure you are fit enough to do the trek. Weather was overall good in November - a few rainy/cloudy periods but we did see Machu Picchu and were never uncomfortably wet.
Wish they were clearer about the tips expected for our group size up front or included it in the up front cost. My friend and I did this trip in September. It included 2 nights in Cusco prior to the hike and 1 night after at the San Antonio Cusco hotel. Very nice hotel centrally located. Everything was within walking distance including museums, shops, restaurants and the main plaza. We stayed an extra 5 days prior to the trip which gave us a full week to acclimate to the altitude before the hike and time to explore Cusco and the Sacred Valley. We spent one night in Ollantaytambo in the Sacred Valley. Could have spent 2 nights there. Some great Inca sites to visit there. Our hostal Iskay was very nice and we enjoyed spending some time shopping an checking out the restaurants around the plaza. We had an excellent guide and assistant guide on the Inca Trail hike - Ruben and Eduardo. The food on the trail was amazing considering the primitive cooking conditions at the camp sites. Breakfast, lunch, and dinners were great. A shout out to the cook and assistant cook. We were impressed with our porters. The tents were roomyn, nice, and water proof - we had some heavy rain 2 nights but we stayed cozy and dry. The hike was amazing with awesome and varied scenery and many very interesting Inca sites along the way before we arrived at the Sun Gate at Machu Picchu the last day. Machu Picchu was great. We ended the trip with lunch in Aguas Calientes with our group 13 hikers and 2 guides then a train ride back to Cusco. This was a bucket list trip and was well worth it. Besides altitude medication and cocoa leaf tea - i would highly recommend bringing toilet paper :) you can get the little rolls for hiking at REI or Cabela or online. cheap but well worth it. I would highly recommend Valencia Travel - they were very helpful before and during the trip. I would book the tour directly with them. It was a most excellent adventure!

Other companies brought big groups, maybe through sheer luck we were alone in our group which allowed our team to give a more personalized and homely feeling experience.
The porters were very professional and hard working. They went out of their way to make sure we were comfortable and happy.
The chef (Enrique) somehow managed to bring a 5 star kitchen on the trail. We were honestly worried about the hygiene of the food before the trail but had no problems at all and the food was delicious and fresh. The crew knows how to prepare the food so it’s safe for foreigners and avoid them having stomach problems.
The guide (Oscar) was a great guide: spoke perfect English and always kept us informed of what is ahead. Well educated, he was able to explain the history of the Inka (and pre-inka) sites clearly and to the point, and was able to respond to all the questions we had.
10/10 - we would highly recommend everybody from our crew.

I highly recommend the 4 day Inca trail trek. Every aspect of the trip was well organized and I had a great time. The food was delicious and the sleeping bags available for rent were super warm. Genrri was an excellent guide, he was really knowledge about the Incas and the wildlife along the trail. He was very supportive during the more challenging stretches of the trek and I felt very safe with him as our guide.

Did the 4 day Inca Trail hike with our amazing guide Genrri and it was definitely a highlight of our trip to Peru. We had a group of 5 which was a lovely size and the equipment, tents etc were all great.
I was really impressed with our guide Genrri. He was extremely knowledgeable on the history, the flora, fauna etc. So much so that I noticed other groups with perhaps less knowledgeable guides eavesdropping on some of our talks.
Secondly I was blown away by the food we got on the tour. Didn't expect to go on a 4 day waking tour and put on weight but the food was amazing and there was plenty of it! Some of the best meals we've had in South America. Massive kudos to our chef Enrique! I don't know how he managed it while camping but it was incredible.
What a wonderful experience, highly recommend!

Rene was the best tour guide. he knows so much history and would add personal stories on top of teaching us about the culture and traditions. I would HIGHLY recommend touring with Valenvia travel to anyone. I believe Valencia Travel provided the best overall experience for guests and their employees. my great friend Rene thank you for having a magical essence and making the whole group feel like family

The hike was the best mix of amazing lookouts , Everything was perfect thanks to our super guide Rene, because he was super cautious so we could enjoy and not worry too much. The scenery is lush and breathtaking and you pass through some cool ruins along the way, which serve as an introduction of -Machu Picchu. The highlight was passing through the sun gate and suddenly viewing Machu Picchu from above. thank you very much valencia travel for this wonderful experience

This was an outstanding journey, and many thanks to Rene Ferdinand for being a great tour leader. We learned so much from his experience on the trail. He also did a great job of assessing our ability and paced us accordingly. It is a hard hike for 60 year old wheels, but he made it very motivating and enjoyable. Thanks also to Wilfredo and his assistant chef for delicious meals, and endless thanks to all of the porters who work so hard to take great care of us. If you want to have the best experience, choose Rene and the Valencia Travel team. You will have an awesome trip.

I want to mention that my partner and I had a great time trekking with Rene The trip was extremely well organized and we had everything we needed throughout the four days. Our super guide Rene was also very knowledgeable about the trail and the history of the various sites we visited. I would recommend this trip to anyone who enjoys above all the history of the magical Inca culture and being outdoors

I stayed at the Casa Andina Standard Cusco Plaza inbetween the hiking, they kept our luggage safe.. they were absolutely brilliant

Since we were returning to the same hotel for a night at the conclusion of our hike, we were allowed to store our suitcases there.
Hi I would like to know if we have those 4 days accommodation in tents and food because in the section what to expect it says that the accommodation and meals are not included I don't know what to believe. Thanks!

That depends what time you start the last hike to Macchu Picchu. Our group got up at 4am and hiked into the sunrise. We were arrived at Macchu Picchu in the morning and were on the bus into town by noon. We had an amazing lunch at one of the local restaurants. We beat the crowds, it was great! It was the best way to do it, we then traveled back to Cusco had dinner and had hotel arrangements for a night stay.

Hi. Great question. I recommend 45L. You should be good with a 30-45L pack. Some of the backpacks come with a raincover. If yours does not I would highly recommend that you purchase the raincover to keep all your stuff nice and dry! Also, we did not pay the additional fee for our own porter; if you decide to go that route you might be able to get away with going slightly smaller.

For extra fee can you provide a sleeping bag and can we hire porters for our personal items? If so, what is the cost of these two add ons?

You can rent a sleeping bag from Valencia, and they are comfortable and clean. Pay extra for the personal porter to carry it along with some additional items. It is so worth it! The porters are amazing, so tip graciously. I don’t remember the exact price, but it is worth it. They will give you a large duffle to fit everything into, and if I remember correctly as mentioned by another post, it is up to 7kg.
