I hesitated to take this trip as the reviews were mixed. However I was approached in the street and thought, why not?

The good thing about it was that it took you around all the main sights. However the sound system was so bad that I couldn't work out whether it was English, Spanish or Quechua.

The main place it took you to was a kind of cultural village experience. I thought this was going to be different stops, based on the information, but no. They took us in and sat us down for some kind of ceremony with the 'maestro', who I think was a shamen. Hard to know if it was real or all a bit of drama for the tourists but I didn't actually want to repeat a load of words in an unknown language. Either it's real and that could do something (but who knows what?) or it's a load of mumbo jumbo. I chose not to participate but some of the others seemed to be having a meaningful experience.

From there we were taken to see a weaving demonstration, and encouraged to buy the products. There were a few llamas outside to see and there was also someone selling drinks and cheese empanadas. And there was a great view over Cusco.

We drove past the main architectural sites, as advertised. The only other stop was at the 'Cristo', the large white statue of Jesus overlooking the town. I've been to see a few of these in South America but this was the least laid out in terms of paths and car parks. There were buses and tourists everywhere and an equal number of stands selling tourist merchandise. I think Jesus would have been turning over the tables and chasing the merchants out.

Anyway, from there we went back to the city.

Things to be aware of: although it says 'suitable for most' it isn't really. I joined at the Plaza de Armas although I think other people may have joined further away. From there it is a good two and a half blocks walking uphill to reach the bus. It's quite a trek. You are told you sit upstairs, so you have to be able to do that. Eventually I gave up and sat downstairs, which didn't have the proper seats in, just dirty bench seats along the sides, with no seat belts of course. There are pictures across the windows so you can't see our properly. So really it's upstairs or nothing. When we stopped there was no kerb so the step up to get on the bus was huge (over a foot) and I needed to be helped on. There was a poor old lady there who was helped on by her family, who left her on her own downstairs. It wasn't comfortable down there and she wouldn't have seen anything. She wouldn't have got anything from the experience as she wasn't able to get on or off either.

It was OK. I would hope there were better types but I wouldn't guarantee it.

I believe it is the worst tour in Cusco. If you have 2 hours to waste in the city, go do it. People only take you outside the ruins, there's no option to enter, then they take you to a village just to try to sell you clothes and green corn.

When we got to the “meeting place” we were taken down to the plaza to meet with the others going on the tour, then had to walk several more blocks to the bus. This wasn’t in the explanation, and why not say meet at the plaza?? The seats on top were small, seatbelts didn’t work, and it was very full. English speakers were in the minority. The guide was down on the bottom level of the bus and it was hard to hear his explanations. Everything was in Spanish first and then English. His English was much better than my Spanish but sometimes hard to understand. Enjoyed the overall views of Cusco. Had photos taken by some photographer for the tour but never saw them. When we stopped at a village where they sold alpaca, etc, the entire explanation was in Spanish with no English translation. I guess you get what you pay for. My bad for not booking something better.

Comments supposedly in English should have been optional because the tour was only in Spanish. Really nice ! Thanks to the organizer.

This is a great way to see the city in a short period of time. The guide was knowledgeable and spoke good English. The sacred ceremony was special and a great touch. I was impressed with all we saw and did in such a short time. And the double decker bus was just a fun experience overall. I would recommend it to anyone visiting Cusco. We did it on our last day there, and I wish we would have done it our first day. It was affordable and well worth the price we paid. I would do it again.

The views were amazing. The rest of the tour was the tour guide allowing locals to board the bus to sell us products. Also the sound system was awful and you couldn't understand one word from the tour guide. Wouldn't recommend.

First, the good. The price was right for this tour. The views were amazing from the upper deck.

However, the execution was really bad. There are lots of little things they could do to improve this tour.

Here is my constructive criticism:

1) the PA system in the bus is really weak and garbled (two things you don’t want in a PA system). You can’t really hear the narration when you are on the top deck. Everyone was on the top deck, because that is the only way you can see the sights. We had no idea what we were seeing or the descriptions of each. The reverb is set super high, and the speakers/PA are too weak to reach the deck. They have no speaker on the deck, even though that’s where everyone sits.

2) the shaman ceremony was a disaster. First, the tour guide did not adequately describe what the Shaman was doing. He also didn’t really describe the significance of the ceremony or what it was for. It would have been far better if the guide described that information in detail. We didn’t know what the Shaman was doing, what it meant or anything. I am sure it had a great deal of significance, but with no context it was just weird and random. Also, the guide should have explained to participants the solemn nature of the ceremony. Because participants had no idea what was going on or the significance, they acted foolish - dancing around, gyrating and generally making fun of the Shaman. The Shaman was rightfully and visibly upset by all of this nonsense. This was very offensive as it disrespected this man’s religion. First, the participants should not have acted like that. It was disrespectful. However, if the guide would have explained the process ahead of time and stressed how solemn of a process this was and to not make fun on it, this cultural error could have been avoided. I am sure the company will reply to this review that the Shaman understands that tourists will act foolish, however, it is the responsibility of the guide to adequately explain everything and proactively try to prevent such things.

3) the guide spoke broken English, at best. The descriptions were supposed to be in Spanish and English. You couldn’t effectively understand the guide when he was speaking English. Even when we were off the bus and he didn’t have the messed up speaker system, you could not understand what he was saying. This took away greatly from the tour.

With a few changes, this would be a 5 star tour. Sadly, it is not. Nowhere near.

We thought it was a very good option to get to know the city and its tourist attractions since we had little time and no mobility.

While in Cusco, we noticed the Open Bus Tour and inquired on booking it. The tour was very cost friendly for a 2-3 hour tour. It toured a sector of the city, while the bus tour guide explained a few of the locations of significant importance. The bus tour did make two stops, one at The White Christ, Protector of Cusco statue which overlooks the entire city of Cusco. And then at a little shopping area where you could buy souvenirs and take photos with alpacas. The bus tour was nice because it gave us an opportunity to see the city and get off of our feet. And the tour provided some pretty amazing panoramic views of the city. We really appreciated the guide’s patience in letting us take a lot of photos when we got off the bus and didn’t rush us to get back on too quick. Lastly at one point a man showed up and took our photos and by the end of the tour, they showed us the printed photos to sell us in a nice commemorative frame for a surprisingly cheap price. Overall, I definitely felt like I got more than I paid for. It was a great time.
