Its been 14 days since we finished our trek. Frank was our guide, he made a wonderful experience, unforgettable. His knowledge of Inca history was unparalleled, but it was his passion for his native land that was obvious. We hiked for a few days towards Ausangate Mountain and finished at Rainbow Mountain, it was incredibly difficult to adjust to the altitude even though we acclimated in Cusco. Fantastic soup for lunch and morning hot Coca Tea. The food on the expedition was excellent and hardy. Bring Tylenol and drink lots of water. We really appreciated the physical challenge of the mountain and mental education provided by Killa. We continued our trek by van and train to the Salt Mines and Garden Terraces. Finishing at the ultra-surreal Machu Picchu, an experience we will never forget.

I participated in a 6D/5N Rainbow Mountain Trek with a group of eight friends, all visiting from Houston, TX (i.e., we were all accustomed to sea level). The team at Killa Expeditions exceeded my expectations of what a trip like this could be in every way.
- Safety: At various points, several of the members of our group experienced altitude sickness or debilitating fatigue. The staff were well-prepared to carry the additional weight and coordinated creatively to have those individuals transported to the next camp site via alternative routes on horseback. Not only that, they also arranged for ill individuals to make it to the more scenic locations where we would take breaks, so that they wouldn't miss out on taking any of the amazing pictures we were able to get on this trip. And had the condition of our group members worsened, they had a contingency plan for evacuating them from the trek. Thankfully it didn't come to that!
- Comfort: The staff set up and tore down camp each night -- and not just the tents we stayed in. The staff also set up separate tents for cooking, dining, and a toilet. Each night, they would prepare hot water bottles wrapped in soft fabric that we could put at the bottom of our sleeping bags to keep our feet warm. And every morning they would come to each tent with a cup of tea and a basin of hot water for washing. Several of us accidentally got our socks and boots wet and the team took care of drying them out overnight using the cooking supplies.
- Nutrition: Each meal (breakfast, lunch, and dinner) had three courses, with a mix of local and familiar, heavy and light dishes (somehow they made everything from ceviche to pizza to cake), so that each person could have something to eat regardless of dietary preference or how they might be feeling. Even before and after the trek, Killa gave us amazing recommendations for restaurants where we had experiences I'm sure none of us will forget any time soon.
- Education: Our guide, Guido, provided relevant background and history at each stop to help us make the most of the trip and make it more than just sightseeing. At one stop, a local was passing by (expending much less effort, despite hiking in sandals!). Our guide spoke with him in the local language and traded some coca leaves in exchange for the chance to show us the slingshot he was carrying, apparently used for self-defense. Our guide grabbed a rock and slung it what seemed like several football fields into the distance.
- Company: The staff kept us in high spirits despite our tired lungs, encouraging us at every tough incline ("Don't look at how much you have to go! Instead, look at how far you have already come!") and making sure we weren't pushing too hard ("Take a break and take photos, my friends!"). We so enjoyed the company of our guide that we asked him to be our honored guest for our last group dinner in Cusco before heading back home, at a restaurant Killa had recommended to us with an amazing live show each night.
- Organization: This trip involves traveling by car, bus, train, even horse, all across different service providers as well as different lodging arrangements. At every turn, Killa made sure we had what we needed exactly when we needed (so that no one had a chance to lose an important document). It was about as worry-free as one could imagine. Even when we went to restaurants, our guide had local connections to make sure we could get the best tables and views.
This is a strenuous hike, just as Killa indicates on their web site. But, if you are able to do it, Killa will make sure you have an amazing time with unforgettable memories made.

I cannot say enough how wonderful this trip was and how much Killa did to make it an unforgettable experience. At every level, I give 5+ stars!
A few standouts for me in no particular order:
- The home office coordinating airport transportation, passes for historical sites, train tickets, etc.
- Our guides (Guido and Americo) leading with excellence and kindness to the point where we enjoyed an unofficial celebratory dinner together after the trip was over just to spend more time together as friends!
- The porters setting and striking camp every evening/morning, maintaining a surprisingly functional "toilet tent," and graciously helping give horseback rides to group members struggling with serious altitude sickness.
- The cooks knocking it out of the park at every meal, completely blowing our minds that such excellent food could be found in such remote parts of the world.
- The awe-inspiring beauty of nature filling my heart with joy and wonder again at each step, whether well or weary in body.
I am grateful for the opportunity to take this trip and would recommend anyone to go if they are able.

Our guides and trekking team (porters/horsemen and cooks) we’re all incredible! They displayed true hospitality and service— we never lacked anything on our hike or at the campsites. The guides were great at moderating our pacing for our experience level. (Our group of from elevation of zero and a few experienced altitude sickness and the team was very understanding and helpful.)
The logistics of all our travel days were smooth due to our guide Guido’s expertise. Throughout the trip he was able to teach us about the culture and history associated with the geography. The trip was not only an adventure but also an informative and rich cultural experience!
I was impressed by the services available on the hike— three generous and fresh cooked meals a day and a toilet tent. These amenities were unlike anything I’ve seen on a trail before- wonderful. The city hotels and meals included in our package were also luxurious.
My only critique was that the company lost track of a few of the add-ons I had already paid for. There seemed to be a bit of confusion over who had already paid for what through the initial booking. But it was all resolved quickly and professionally.
I couldn’t recommend Killa Expeditions enough! Thank you, Killa!
The logistics of all our travel days were smooth due to our guide Guido’s expertise. Throughout the trip he was able to teach us about the culture and history associated with the geography. The trip was not only an adventure but also an informative and rich cultural experience!

We had the most amazing adventure with Killa Expeditions on the Ausangate Trek to Rainbow Mountain and Machu Picchu!! Our guide, Cheo, was AWESOME!! He was extremely knowledgeable and taught us so much about the mountains, flora, fauna, and the Incas! He was so kind and funny, we absolutely loved having him as our guide :) Everything from the itinerary, to the provided supplies, transportations, communication and meals were incredible and so well thought out! The food during the trek was delicious! Chef Andres amazed and impressed us on a daily basis with his ability and variety of meals, soups, drinks, and desserts. This trip was a once in a lifetime experience with beautiful views, unique learning opportunities, an awesome crew and more! We give Killa Expeditions our highest recommendation!! :)

Nous avons fait le Rainbow Mountain trek en juillet 2022 et c'était super! Nous avons tout de suite été mis en confiance avec notre guide d’expérience et toute l’équipe qui nous accompagnait. Notre guide était très intéressant, attentionné et patient. Il a su respecter notre rythme et nous a même surpris en parlant français (un très bon français d’ailleurs)! L’équipe était toujours à l’heure au moment de venir nous chercher à l’hôtel et les repas étaient incroyables! C’était étonnant toute la nourriture qu’ils ont pu nous préparer durant le trek! C’est une compagnie que je recommande très certainement. Finalement, le trek en soi présentait de magnifiques paysages et c’était très tranquille, en plein ce que nous recherchions!

Le tour était fantastique! Les paysages étaient à couper le souffle. Ce fut une superbe expérience. Notre guide, Guido, a été parfait! Il a pu nous parler dans un excellent français, ce qui fut vraiment apprécié. Il nous a très bien accompagné et il nous a très bien informé. Il a su suivre notre rythme, ce qui fut vraiment apprécié. Toute l'équipe a été géniale. Ce fut une expérience extraordinaire que je recommande!

Recently spent 2 weeks in Cusco and did the Inca Trail and Rainbow Mountain overnight treks with Killa Expeditions. Every detail of our trips was perfectly executed. Our guides, Guido and Americo, balanced each other out with good motivation but also care and concern when needed. The hikes, the landscape, the food, the fellow hikers were all top notch. I wouldn’t change a single thing about my experience.

In February 2022, I did the Rainbow Trek + Machu Picchu Package 6D/5N. I can't say enough good things about this company and the people who work there. The office staff, guides, porters, cook, and drivers were all exceptional. I had booked this trip in January, but got sick with COVID and had to cancel. However, they were more than accommodating and were able to move my trip to February including getting new permits for Machu Picchu.
I literally had the entire trek to myself. Didn't see another tourist and the vistas are jaw-dropping. It got quite cold at night and small amenities like extra wool blankets and a water bladder filled with hot water before bed made my tent feel like a 5-star resort.
Sergio was my cook during the trek and I can honestly say I don't believe I've ever eaten as well in the outdoors. 4-5 course meals were the norm and he even miraculously produced a full cake with sprinkles for the last night (at 16,000 feet mind you). Even on our way down from the mountains in the van, he somehow put together a full meal that we could eat on the side of the road before getting back to town. I was expecting a snack bar or something.
The horse porters were a father/son duo and it was incredible watching them run up ahead as I'm struggling to catch my breath in order to have camp ready by the time I arrived.
Guido was my main guide and he was incredibly friendly and knowledgable. We are also the same age so it was fun chatting about our various cultures and going out to eat together while in Cusco. He was always happy to take the obligatory photos for me at every bend and pointed out great places along the way to show me local flora/fauna, as well as indulge in local food and drink while in various towns. When we got up to Machu Picchu, I was disappointed as it was full white out with fog. Couldn't see 5 feet ahead. However, Guido assured me that it would clear up so we waited a few hours and sure enough, we were rewarded with the most amazing view of the mountains peaking out from the fog layer. Very magical!
I travel a lot and have done many tours; however, I would put this tour at the top in terms of natural beauty, challenge, and amazing service.
