I feel like the description of the tour wasn't clear. The majority of the time of the tour you spend in the van. The way to destination and back takes up a lot of time due to road construction, because Panama City's metro system is being built and because the highway is too narrow for the existing traffic. It took us about 3 hours to get back, the distance should have only taken an hour.
The cost of the tour only covers the transportation and visitor center entrance ($1.50 a person). Everything else you have to pay for. And the thing is, you don't really know what kind of options of entertainment you have at the destination until you get to that visitor center.
We had to pay $3 per person for a hike in the jungle. The hike is very short, leads to a nice waterfall. You can also swim in a natural pool and get on a zipline, those paid separately.
There's a butterfly house, $8 per person. There are thermal springs, also $8 per person. You can't really go and see the springs first, have to pay and if you change your mind because it is too crowded or something, they don't return your money.
There's a scientific lab with indangered frogs, a tiny exhibition with 9 tanks, the entrance is $3 a person. A hike to see square trees is $4 per person and takes 40 minutes.
The driver / guide was working hard to be flexible with the group members, so we could split with the rest of the group and do things we preferred, and he accommodated us with that.
It is a beautiful valley and it is worth the trip, but i wouldn't call it an excursion because you are really doing stuff on your own and no one is actually giving you a tour.

Unfortunately, some clients do not read the details of the tour. In the Valley tour, it is indicated that the transportation trip is 2 hours from the city (128kms/80mi). Depending on the traffic that day, it may take more than 2 hours, but it is never expected to be done in 1 hour. The idea of the tour is to explore and learn about what is outside the capital of Panama.
For the benefit of those who visit the Valley, there are many attractions to explore during the approximate 4 hours that we will be there. The tour begins with a Sleeping Indian hiking trail (approximately 2 hours). Afterward, the guide will take you to the hot springs, and then to a local restaurant for lunch. Following lunch, you will have free time to visit the public market. Finally, the guide will take you to Butterfly Heaven or the local zoo, and if time permits, we will go to a laboratory. With a small donation of 3 dollars, you will be able to see an extinct animal in nature. This small laboratory, without government support or international conservation organizations, is attempting to reproduce a large number of frogs and then release them into the wild. In our opinion, this experience is priceless.
In conclusion, the guide will always provide an introduction to each place you visit, explain the activities you are going to do, and inquire whether you would like to participate before paying the entrance fee. For example, if you do not want to go hiking, the guide will take you on a shorter trail with a natural pool and/or a viewpoint. If you do not wish to visit the hot springs, the guide will take you to the attraction of your choice. The guide is trained to adjust the itinerary to your preferences. That is why we do not include tickets because every day is different, and clients have different preferences. It is not fair to include a ticket for a place they may not visit in the end. This approach allows us to maintain the lowest price for the trip to Anton Valley.

Had very good time with our tourguide Mario. Hiking tour won't work for you if you are not fit at all. Zoo and frog place was nice but the hike was our absolute highlight incl. a short swimming break in a waterfall. Spa place was also nice.

My wife and I enjoyed our day trip to El Valle de Anton from Panama City. The only negative was a bit of a confusion prior to our morning hotel pickup, as we received WhatsApp messages from two different people with conflicting start times and meeting locations; we were able to sort it out easily though and the trip went well from there. Our tour guide Milton was friendly and very knowledgeable and our driver Ryan did a good job navigating the minibus through the traffic of Panama City, a few slowdowns on the highway, and the windy mountain road. We had a good group of seven people and we actually stuck together - doing the challenging hike to the top of La India Dormida, having lunch at a local fonda by a marketplace, and a visit to the hot springs. The hot springs were not hot but warm, but we still enjoyed them. Overall, it was a good trip and I recommend it.

We had an amazing experience on the Valle de Anton tour. Abel was our guide and Brian was our driver. Brian was a good driver, felt safe in his hands. Abel was incredible! He told us all about Valle de Anton and helped create a custom tour with us and the other 2 people on our tour. He gave us all the options and described everything and after we picked the 5 activities we wanted to do. He then took us for the best day! We went to the top of the valley for a scenic view of the crater. We went to the waterfall, the butterfly garden, the frog sanctuary, the local artisan market, and the thermal pools. He also took us to an amazing restaurant for lunch. Abel was excellent! Really enjoyed a perfect day in Panamá

The tour allows you to do a variety of activities during the trip including hikes, thermal pools, wildlife experiences, historical locations, etc. While not for everyone, you and your group decide what you want to do throughout the day, making it a more fluid and less structured experience. I would recommend this tour as it’s a great way to explore a different area of the country outside the city

Definitely do this trip. The drive and hike was lovely, not ‘easy’ but not tough, however, I would recommend to all people wear hiking boots, for grip but also feet protection, no need for water shoes on this. We left at 7:30am and were back to the city around 4pm.
Abel is a fantastic guide and fun guy, our group had a great day. We hiked, ate lunch in the town, did the springs (I just did my legs and face, bring a swimsuit and towel if you want to go all in), and the snake sanctuary. Bring at least $30 cash so you can get lunch (~$8) and buy something from the market.
So glad I did this, highlight of my Panama trip!

Chegamos na cidade de Valle de Anton e fomos diretamente fazer a trilha da India Dormida que é uma das mais famosas da região. É uma trilha considerada fácil. São 3h de caminhada: 1h 30 para subir, meia hora para apreciar a vista e 1h para descer. A vista do topo é impressionante. Dá para ver a cidade inteira dentro da cratera do vulcão.
Leve bastante água, pois quando faz muito calor, o corpo precisa se recuperar e no meio da trilha não tem onde comprar água.
Depois visitamos o mercado público da cidade que é uma gracinha. Almoçamos numa fonda que é um restaurante típico do Panamá e de tarde fomos ao Nispero, que é um zoológico que eu achei meio decaído. O ponto alto foi ver uma anta mamando na sua mãe e tinha muitos pássaros bonitos também, mas não encontramos a famosa rã dourada.

My friend and I had a wonderful time on this tour. The guide arrived at our hotel on time (I was late). The guide, Abel, was a wealth of information about the area. And since it was only my friend and I on the tour, he catered the excursion to our interests. The El Valle Anton region itself is beautiful. It’s not a rainforest, but had its own charm. My friend went zip lining (she had a great time) but I did the canopy walk. We visited the butterfly sanctuary, that was lovely. The local museum was nice. And we did visit the mineral bath/springs. We also had a delicious lunch.
But the highlight was tour guide Abel…charming, attentive and knowledgeable. Couldn’t ask for more. Will do again when I’m in better shape to do the hike. Panama owes me nothing and I owe it everything!

Hi there! We started out with tennis shoes and Keen sandals. They weren’t enough as you have to climb up a leaf covered slope at the beginning of the hike.
