Fantastic and well organised tour of Acatenango and the surrounding area including Fuego. The routes are tough at the altitude but manageable with the help of the brilliant tour guides who were really fun and knowledgeable - Sergio, Henry, Zero and the rest of the gang. Would recommend using the porters to take the bags up and down the volcano to the camp. Not an easy climb but very much worth the views if you are lucky with the weather.

They give you equipment in exchange for an ID card for collateral. I had a very small tear under the arm pit due to wear and tear that was already there. They charged me $25 USD. It was $75 USD until I talked them down from their greedy and shady practices.
I've been to over 100 countries and many tours, so please use my experience for your benefit. Do not recommend this tour operator.

Justin, we provide all of our gear for free. We have 4 signs on the way to the gear room, the information provided at the pre-trip meeting and a sign at reception all stating you are simply required to check your gear before you take it on tour(and if there is damage, you can exchange it). If you fail to check your gear and it comes back with damage you will be charged for it. If you did not do the damage, but also failed to check your gear that is an unfortunate situation but it is not without warning. We try to be as transparent about our gear policy as possible. We now have cards we give to each person stating our policy as well as it posted on our TV screen while people wait for the meeting to begin. We are simply trying to maintain the quality of our gear to ensure everyone has good gear to use. It is not a greedy and shady practice, simply one you didnt pay attention to and were held responsible to.

Sleeping bags are not appropriate for the temps, and some are faulty.
Fuego look out should not be an extra $40 USD. Felt like a cash grab. Should just be included in the price.
Equipment lended is a lost and found, also of questionable quality.
If you have any experience in the hiking realm it seems like a guide isn’t needed.
With that being said,
Food was great, volcano is awesome, and for the sake of simplicity 100 dollars (without Fuego lookout) is not a bad price for transport, a guide, sleeping accommodation, and 4 meals.
Volcano is a must do, just do some research into other companies.

Ox provided the preperation and the confidence to make the Acatenango hike a succes. No (wo)man was left behind as we reached basecamp middle in the afternoon. Even during the steepest parts up we could always rely on the guides for information, support or just a chat. Both fuego and the summit are a must do, and in my personal opinion OX is the company to do them with. Cheers to Philipe

A once in a lifetime experience with experienced guides who supported the group throughout. We were so lucky to see so many eruptions and lava too! Highly recommend for your trip to Antigua

We went on two excursions with OX and they were both great. The guides were super helpful and knowledgeable and the gear was top notch and much appreciated!

Unfortunately did not get the experience of others on the review page. Did not expect it, I think it might be dependent on the guide. Very demoralising experience, did not feel confident at all about the trip and I was shocked by the negativity and attitude of the guides. One instructor explicitly said to a person on my tour while he was trying to take a number 2 that he was not a private tour and others could not wait for him and put extreme pressure on lots of people to hurry up and if couldn’t keep up to leave.
To pre warn you they threatened to send you back down if you are taking too long: walking, going to the loo, looking at views, eating or talking with friends. They seemed happy to send you back down the volcano without making suitable adjustments to improve experience or help you out. Additionally we had to pay before we did the trip (the full - not a deposit) and after this experience many of us are left to wonder why we paid so much. It was extremely rushed while packing and they gave us faulty equipment. (Basically broken/falling apart) For example one person on our trip had a missing strap which they had to replace with rope. This was shocking as it would have only taken a couple of minutes to exchange and this could have cause health issue or severe back problems. Alongside everyone having rips, holes and non-waterproof bags which in a very wet climate was surprising. They are not flexible about anything and very un-empathetic. They do not tell you about all the extra costs you have to pay on top of the fee they make you pay. Very disheartening experience and would not recommend. If they put more time and effort into allowing you to acclimatise they would have many more people who would have made it. It’s a real shame because it’s not necessarily a fitness issue but how your body responds to the altitude and some people take longer to adjust. The whole experience is clearly very dependent on the guide but the ones I met and experiences from others were similar and I met another guide on the tour who had the same extremely horrible attitude and I was shocked while making simple conversation with him how arrogant and just very unprofessional, negative, unenthusiastic they were!

Acatenango was amazing, we were with great guides who took us through the whole trip.

Not the acatenango overnight hike. It’s too much. I believe they have another hike that’s great for families with kids.
