This was an incredible trip and an unforgettable adventure! The trek itself is quite demanding T times with a significant amount of steep hills which can last for over an hour at a time constant incline. I think it's important to keep that in mind when booking that your prepared for a bit of a workout, and a very steep ascent on the steps to the Lost City, with an equally steep descent that takes a lot of focus and time, but is totally doable.
The camps are always welcoming. Beds are very adequate, each with a mosquito net, blanket and pillow. I recommend carrying your clothes on a plastic bag within your pack so that you'll always have dry clothes in the event of a rainstorm! Bring a pack over for the train and a lightweight rain jacket. You won't be sorry... any added weight will be well worth it. Bring lots and lots mosquito repellent and a good first aid kit. Although our team was very well prepared, it's nice to have extra comfort of knowing you have it.
Our team of guides were incredible! We booked our trip through G Adventures, with Hugo as our tour leader. He was outstanding, kind, knowledgeable and attentive to everyone on our group.
The rest of our guides were through Magic Tour.
Isaias Suarez was our cook for the week. He prepared amazing, home cooked, well thought out meals each day for breakfast, lunch and dinner, leaning nobody hungry! Coffee, hot chocolate amd treats were also provided. He was Fantastic.
Our main guide was Jose Samboni. I can't say enough about Jose. An incredibly talented amd knowledgeable guide who is a local that knew everyone we passed on the trail. His knowledge amd expertise and years of experience, really made you feel like you were part of this special place for the brief time your on the trail. Jose was so very kind, patient and always took time to make sure everyone was following and taken care of.
Fernery Gallego was our auxiliary guide. 'Fer' was fantastic. He took the time to attend to everyone, always there to help and guide us all. Fer always had a cup of hot chocolate or coffee for us when we needed it most and always helped make sure everyone was in our group, and were at a comfortable pace. Fer was
equally fantastic as the rest of our team.
I would recommend this trek, but if you're lucky enough to have Hugo, Jose, Isaias and Fernery... you'll have an even better time.

El camino es una pasada si te gusta el trek, aunque la humedad lo hace un poco dificil para aclimatarte. Durante los 5 días te unen a un grupo que también hace los 5 días cómo tu. Lo pasamos genial e hicimos muchas migas. Sobre todo con otros dos españoles que también viajaban solos como yo. Nuestro guía Diego fue lo mejor, siempre animándonos y explicando historias sobre Sierra Nevada. La diferencia con el grupo de 4 días fue que el último día nos quedamos en una termas del campamento. Si tienes un día de sobra es un día de relax total, lo recomiendo. Si vas a Colombia y no visitas Ciudad Perdida más vale que no vayas.

Hiking- strenuous, the heat and humidity make this technically easy trekking a real challenge
Accommodation- the hygiene standards are unspeakably low, not only the bathrooms and showers are disgusting, the worst things are the dogs which are walking freely and sleeping in the tourist ‘s bedrooms and peeing at the bed posts, backpacks or what else is in their way
Sightseeing- the lost city is an interesting place but frankly speaking there is not really to be seen a lot, it needs a lot of imagination...and there is not a lot of literature around which can explain the place

We are very sorry to hear that your experience to the Lost City was not to your liking. On top of that, our apologies for the delay in replying, we wanted to investigate thoroughly what happened in order to give you a good answer.
Regarding the trek's difficulty level, it might seem like a simple excursion with a medium to low level of requirement since the maximum altitude reached is only 1,200 meters above sea level with very little accumulated unevenness. However, heat and humidity have a strong influence so the difficulty changes according to the season and its weather conditions. The tour is more demanding from July to October, since during these 4 months the rains increase on the road and this makes the vegetation and weeds denser because of the high temperatures, mud and humidity.
Thanks to your opinion we are already better informing our travelers about the weather conditions so that they can also take them into account.
On the other hand, during the high season the camps, roads and the archaeological zone might be a little saturated and the hygiene conditions might be slightly affected especially in the accommodations. However, it must be kept in mind that the accommodation is owned by the native community, used by all the operators and that work is already being done to improve the quality.
As for the dogs in the lodgings, it is true that there are present, and it is somewhat difficult to control. We must put into context that it is a sustainable rural community tourism tour where local communities, both indigenous and not, are directly involved and it is the travelers who visit their home, and therefore must adjust to their way of life. The accommodations are large cabins, an open space with beds where it is difficult to control the entry of dogs.
We want to apologize again for the experience you had and hope that when you decide to travel to Latin America again, we will be among your options to live your new adventure.
