This is my second attempt of the 3D2N summit lake package with Dawell and he has never fail to provide his professional yet friendly service for 5 of us.
Compared with the first time in the Senaru village, the accommodation is still simple however it was clean and cosy and best part is they provide hot shower before the hike. Dawell did a briefing on our tour itineray during dinner to ensure we bring sufficient warm clothing & personal belonging.
Again, kudos to the porter who carried the camping equipment, cooking utensils, portable table & chairs and food all the way up and they will ensure everything is properly set-up before our arrival and cook a scrumptious meal to satisfy our hunger. Special shout out also to our guide, Jefri and Kopekan (porter cum guide) who escort us in the front and back and will consistently ensure followed our pace to reach all the destination and never fail to offer us biscuit and drinks (even hot drinks up at the peak) to satisfy our tummy.
On our last day of descend, as we were left behind the schedule and reach the foot mountain after sunset, Dawell even offer us his family simple home cook dinner before sending us to the port to Gili island without additional charges and ensure we are well-fed before we move on to our next destination which is very thoughtful of him. When one of my friend’s trekking pole was left in the van on our departure to Gili, he even travel the extra mile to deliver the only trekking pole to our next destination without charged us on extra petrol.
What else can I ask for? I highly recommend none other than Dawell for Mount Rinjani trekking package if it is one of your must-do bucket list.

We did the 3 days 2 nights summit lake package. Were greeted by our driver at the airport and was brought direct to the accommodation, although there were some delay on the greetings but that doesn't bother us much.
The accommodation in Senaru Village was basic but clean and cosy. The draw down part is no hot water shower facilities in the accommodation. Dawell met us at the dining hall and did a brief explanation on our itinerary for our next day.
We set off to Sembalun village after a simple brekkie and did the registration in the office. Food throughout the journey was scrumptious (local delicacy) and they never fail to surprise us despite the basic cooking equipment they brought. Kudos to the porter who carried the camping equipment, cooking utensils and food all the way up the mountain wearing only a pair of slippers and they ensure the tent was properly set-up while waiting for our arrival. While waiting for the main course to be served, they surprisingly served a banana fritters in a well-presented manner to quench our hunger. Not forgetting to mention our guide who is very caring and attentive, he never fails to check whether are we doing fine throughout the hike, offered to carry my partner's backpack (as she has sore toes), countless time of offering drinks (either water or carbonated drinks) and chocolate cookie to boost our energy and follow our pace until we reach our destination.
I highly recommend Dawell who is very well-organized and professional yet fun if you are planning to hike Mount Rinjani for your future trekking trip.

We have just returned from a 2 day 1 night trek to the summit of Mount Rinjani. We were picked up from Senggigi right on time in a new vehicle, with a driver who spoke excellent English. As we travelled north along the coast, the driver described the people and the countryside we travelled through.
On arrival at Rinjani Lodge, Dawell (the owner of the business) visited us to describe the event schedule for the next day. He was a delightful man with excellent English who I instantly warmed to. After chatting for about 1 hour, he invited us to his home for dinner with his family. They were so welcoming and friendly, it was like we had known them for many years. (and the food was fantastic!)
Early next morning, we were pricked up up right on time and taken to Sembalun for the beginning of the trek. Mount Rinjani is very imposing from Sembalun, and the trek commenced with an easy walk to the lower slopes of the volcano where the difficulty intensified.
Our guide was amazing, always checking that we were doing OK, and helping whenever needed in the more difficult sections (and there were a few!) When we grew tired (we are in our 50's) he magically produced cans of soft-drink and chocolates to boost our energy!
Our three porters who were carrying everything needed for the trek, amazingly sped off ahead up the steep slopes to secure a good camping position at the Crater Rim, and when we arrived mid afternoon, the camp was fully established, without our tent fully set up and ready to move into!
I was very impressed, and so was my wife who quickly collapsed into a deep sleep... (the climb is not easy, but the scenery is just amazing, and with the swirling clouds all around, it was very magical)
Within 5 minutes of arriving, our guide arrived at our tent and delivered battered banana fritters and a banana pancake for each of us, along with warm local "Lombok coffee". What service!
The quality of the food for the entire trek was a highlight, with two choices being available for two meals (we met a lot of other trekkers who were amazed at the meals we were provided with, often commenting that they were left hungry after being given tiny meals of just rice and some thin curry which was not enough to sustain them)
The food was fantastic and there was plenty of it, we wanted for nothing.
Early next morning we began the final climb to the summit of Rinjani... wow, this was hard going, but the guide urged us on and very often helped us over some difficult terrain. He was amazing to say the least, and it was his words of encouragement that pushed me to make the summit. Without his words, there is just no way I could have made it (I am after all 57 years old and not so fit!)
We spend two hours at the summit, watched the sunrise (this has to be seen to be believed) and then commenced the easy downhill section, back to the camp at the crater rim where we were greeted with a great meal and lots of strong local coffee. There was so much food we just could not eat it all!
Around 11.00am, we broke camp, with the porters packing everything up and then promptly disappearing with it all on their shoulders. We did not see them again until we arrived at our lunch location half way down, where we were greeted with a hot chicken curry dish with lots of trimmings, fresh fruit, coffee and a can of soft-drink! The meal called 'Gado Gado' was just delicious! How these guys kept producing restaurant quality food out the packs just amazed us!
After a further 3 hours of walking through incredibly jungle and grasslands, we arrived at Sembalun where we met with our transport and laughed all the way back to Senaru (where Dawell Trekking is based) with the guides and porters. We had formed some lasting friendships with these amazing people... they were always joking and having fun, even during the difficult sections of the trek.
From Senaru, we were taken by the same modern vehicle to Teluk Nare port for our transfer to the small island of Gili Meno where we planned to spend a couple of days relaxing.
If you are planning a trek to Mount Rinjani, I cannot recommend this amazing business highly enough. I have trekked a lot, and on many continents, but this was the most fun and professional trekking business I have ever had the pleasure of trekking with.
We are now planning another trek for early next year with them!
