A fantastic 4 day trip with Bamboo Ecotours with gorilla and chimp trekking! Everything was so well organised with Edison quickly responding to my various options for gorilla trekking dates. Amanya was an excellent guide - very funny, engaging and clearly loves introducing us to his country. Will definitely start planning the next trip..

Bamboo ecotours were great. From dealing with Edison in the office at the beginning. Always replied promptly and was very accommodating with all our requests. Herbert our guide went above and beyond to help us not just on the tour but also with the next stage of our own traveling plans. I highly recommend bamboo ecotours and very satisfied with the service we got.

I was invited to a conference in Kampala, so I thought it would be nice to spend some time doing tourist activities in Uganda while I am in the area (after all, who knows when I will have an opportunity to come back!). I was initially very nervous about traveling alone -- I tried very hard to find a group tour, but there weren't any leaving at times that lined up with my conference. After reading excellent reviews of Bamboo Ecotours on several websites, I decided to inquire about tours with this company. In my mind, one of the main advantages of this tour was that this one started in Kigali, which is closer to the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest than Kampala. This means less time riding in a car and more time with wildlife! Also, it gave me an opportunity to visit Kigali, which turned out to be a very cool city.
Edison, the head of Bamboo Ecotours (and the main contact person), helped to assuage all of my fears. He was very responsive to my WhatsApp messages. When I mentioned that I'm a female solo traveler and that my family was worried about me riding alone in a van with an unknown man for 4 days, he set me up with two guides: a seasoned male guide with four years of experience (Charles) and a female trainee guide (Emilly). This way, I felt more comfortable and Emilly got some hands-on experience.
Both Charles and Emilly immediately made me feel very comfortable on the tour. In fact, they became like family over the four days! I was a bit sad to say goodbye to them at the end. They are both from the region of Uganda where the gorilla tours take place, so they are extremely knowledgeable about the area. As we passed various crops/animals/landmarks/etc, they had interesting facts to tell me about each of them. They also helped me with navigating various things in Uganda, like helping me get a Ugandan SIM card after we crossed the border from Rwanda (it turned out that my Rwandan SIM card did not work in Uganda).
The hotels that I stayed at (Ichumbi Gorilla Lodge and Buffalo Safari Lodge) were supposed to be mid-range hotels but honestly they were some of the nicest and most luxurious hotels that I have ever stayed it. From the moment I arrived until the moment that I checked-out, the staff at these places did everything possible to make me comfortable. In both places, I had my own little cabin, with nice interior decor and excellent views of nature. I was able to get delicious vegetarian meals for breakfast, lunch and dinner at both hotels. Buffalo Safari Lodge even had a swimming pool with views of grazing buffalo!
The animal experiences were even better than I had imagined. I saw a whole family of gorillas at Bwindi, and I was able to get very close to them. Charles put me on one of the shorter hikes and I was very grateful for that, as it gave me time to meet the Batwa people in the afternoon. I had read some mixed reviews of the Batwa experiences online, but I think it's very important to meet them. They were removed from the forest so that the gorillas would have protected land, and they still feel the repercussions of that act today. The Ugandan government did not compensate them in any way when taking their land. I really appreciated having a chance to meet with some of the people to talk about their experiences and see how they live with my own eyes. If I can find ways to help them in the future, I will. For others reading this review before booking a trip, I would recommend bringing clothes in your suitcase to donate if you have extra space. I wish that I had done this.
The Queen Elizabeth National Park was also a highlight of my trip. We saw two lionesses and a female leopard in a tree during the safari drive. Then we took a cruise on the Kazinga Channel and we saw so many hippos, buffalo, birds, crocodiles, and even some elephants. There were also plenty of monkeys and elephants that we encountered just by driving around the park. On the last morning, I did a chimpanzee trek in the Kalinzu Forest. Although we only saw two chimpanzees, we saw plenty of colobus monkeys and baboons. At the end of the trip, we had a delicious African buffet lunch and then we stopped by the equator sign for some photos on the way back to Entebbe.
I want to end by saying that I cannot recommend Bamboo Ecotours enough. They will make sure that you see everything that you want to see, and they will do it very safely. Charles was an absolute master at navigating the winding narrow dirt roads near the Bwindi Forest. Emilly sat with me through every meal so that I wouldn't have to eat alone, which was very sweet. They both went above and beyond what I expected from a guide. At the end of the trip, I realised that I had left my swim suit at my last hotel, and Edison contacted another driver from his company and arranged for them to bring my swim suit to Entebbe.
If I ever come back to Uganda, I will absolutely use Bamboo Ecotours again. In the meantime, I will tell all of my friends who are considering booking trips to Uganda to hire this company!

I had a great time on my trip and my guide Fred was amazing! Right from the initial booking process, Edison made the process simple and I was well informed. In country, Fred my guide was on time, highly knowledgeable and great company the entire way. I would highly recommend Bamboo ecotours again!

We had a really fabulous trip organised by Edison and accompanied by our driver and guide Godfrey. Edison was excellent in the lead up to the trip, very responsive and he helped us tailor the perfect trip for our time. They amended the pick up time to a different place, added a volcano hike as an extra day and also an additional days safari - also we got all of our preferred accomodations, and they were some of the nicest places we've ever stayed. It all helped the trip feel nicely tailored.
Then on the trip itself, Godrey was an excellent guide - we felt very comfortable with him, he was always happy to answer our questions and discuss things with us. It meant that we could really relax and enjoy our holiday.
In terms of the location and activities - all I'll say is, you have to go there to believe it! Its truly one of the most beautiful parts of the world, we've ever visited in many respects.

Can't recommend this trip & agency enough! I probably messaged around 20 tour operators to set up a 4 day trip in Uganda, and no one offered as much advice, help & guidance as Bamboo Ecotours, and Edison specifically. Always available, even when you're asking annoying questions at 3AM.
Also want to send a big shout-out to our guide Jackson. The most loving and caring guide you can find in Uganda, and definitely a friend for life! Miss you my friend, hope life is treating you well.

As a female in tech from the US traveling solo, I initially chose this tour provider because I wanted an (I’ll admit) luxury, SAFE, and customized private tour experience which would maximize wildlife (Gorillas, tree climbing lions, elephants, hippos, etc..) and scenery ( from rolling hills of Kigali to mountains, lakes, grasslands of Uganda). I got this and so, so much more.. it was a trip and guided experience that exceeded and unparalleled what I had hoped for. Here’s what you need to know:
When you first contact Bamboo Eco Tours, Edison will be responsive, thorough, helpful, and pleasant in all communication. He really made me feel at ease that I was dealing with a professional and reliable company- the beautiful, customized itinerary reflecting my preferences in lodging was an extra touch. I was very pleased to learn after booking that Bamboo Eco Tours is Ugandan-owned and operated; in the presence of so many foreign tour operators in Africa, the ability to support such a strong national operator helps drive the local economy.
Now to Jackson.. on safari, your experience is heavily shaped by your guide. I’m incredibly grateful that I was paired with someone as patient, caring, skilled and kind as he. Jackson was a wonderful conversationalist and knowledgeably answered my (numerous) questions spanning topics across nature, culture, and politics. Im very happy for his excellent company and friendship, and did his best at every stage of the trip to ensure I was having a great time. For instance- prior to gorilla trekking, the drivers work with the rangers to breakup tourists into groups and each group treks to a different gorilla family. Jackson hooked me up by linking me with a family that had 4 babies AND close to the forest edge that day, resulting in a shorter hike with excellent pictures that saved us from the rain and hailstorm many others suffered that day.
Get a porter! Even if you are capable of carrying your own bags, these locals walk miles each day for the hope of getting hired to sustain their families. Hiring them (and tipping well) supports them and their family in a profound way.
You must also do the Batwa experience. It was difficult to learn about the eviction of the Batwas from Bwindi and their present struggles - so again, supporting the community with a visit is incredibly impactful and helpful to them. It was heartwarming when the guide for this experience, Oscar, shared photos of the food they were able to buy and distribute from the visits tips. This is a must - do experience, and the Ugandan gin I shared afterwards at a bar with with Oscar, my porter Charity, our security Geoffrey will be a lasting memory.
Both Lake Mutanda resort and Buffalo Safari lodge were well maintained and to the standards of luxury and comfort I’d hoped for. The staff- particularly at lake mutanda- were so kind and operated the resorts very well. And you may just turn a corner to find an elephant grazing in the grounds at Buffalo Safari…like I did! And if you have extra time at lake mutanda, do the canoe experience!
One last shout out for Jackson- I felt incredibly safe with him at the wheel, as he was a skilled driver across the unpaved and often torrentially wet roads. He also guided me across the border crossings and was organized and ready for any of the road checks we encountered. When I found myself low on cash a few times, Jackson generously covered me so I could buy/experience whatever I wanted until I could get to an ATM. It was such a pleasure getting to know him and spending the 4 days with him this trip
If you’re looking for a Ugandan tour operator, choose no one other than Bamboo Ecotours and ask for Jackson.

This trip with Bamboo Ecotours was an experience I will never forget! Our driver, Fred, was someone that takes everyone's wishes into consideration and makes the journey entertaining and comfortable. He was always there ready to help us in anyway needed. If I would book a tour to see the gorillas in Uganda, this company would be my number one choice! Edison was helping me to plan the trip since 2019 already. My experience was so successful because of his expertise, patience and customer-centricity (we must have changed 50 mails as i was not sure of booking the trip and was eliminating risks on the way).

We had a wonderful day 4 day experience with bamboo encounters doing gorilla trekking, visiting the Elisabeth national park and doing chimpanzee trekking.
We were accompanied by Fred who is a safe driver, good explainer and most importantly a wonderful person to share such a nice trip with.
The communication with Edison before and after the trip was great, very clear organization and quick answers to all kinds of questions?
We recommend Bamboo ecotours very much!
We were accompanied by Fred who is a safe driver, good explainer and most importantly a wonderful person to share such a nice trip with.
The communication with Edison before and after the trip was great, very clear organization and quick answers to all kinds of questions?

We made our last minute decision to book our Gorilla and Chimpanzee trekking tour. We contacted 5 different tour organizers and chose Bamboo Ecotours! The reason that we decided on this tour operator was because the quote we received was precisely laid out and it was very easy to compare from budget to midrange price lodges and from a driving option to flying option. Edison the owner gave us complimentary upgrade to Rushaga Gorilla Lodge! He was always on top of everything and explained to us thoroughly regarding our concerns of current COVID travel restrictions. He made sure everything would go smoothly. He also programmed our PCR tests in our itinerary so we could have the results back on time for our flight home. We arrived Uganda from Kenya on August 31 and the next morning, Herbert our guide picked us up from our hotel in Entebbe. Because of the current travel restrictions, tour companies cannot pick up their clients from Rwanda and cross the border into Uganda so he had to drive out of his way (which we believe it was a long distance) to meet us in Entebbe. As soon as we met him, we got along very well. He has a sweet and friendly personality and is passionate about his profession. He speaks English fluently! He drove us from Entebbe to the trekking location, which was Rushaga sector of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. On the way via the equator crossing, we stopped for our lunch. The buffet lunch was very nice. We loved the chicken soup, freshly squeezed passion fruit juice, and some local dishes. All of them tasted delicious! We wished we had stopped there one more time on our way back. The next morning we did gorilla trekking. The trekking took about only 2 hours, and we could see a family of Silverback, mom, siblings, and baby gorillas. My partner is 67 years old who has a pain in his abdomen and back resulted from his surgery two years ago, but he made it through with a help of a porter. It only costs $15 (before tip) and makes a huge difference! The porter was a young person from the community and he carried his backpack and took his hand to help him climb the steep up and down. After the trekking, Herbert took us to Batwa community where we took a tour around the village. Elias was the guide of this community. He was very passionate about his local community and help the people raise funds for their necessities. The performance by the whole member of the village was very special. Chimpanzee trekking at Kalinzu Forest was another great experience. We could see and hear many chimpanzees and were able to take pretty close up videos as well. Some of them were walking on the trail paths in front of our group! We can say that we recommend both of our lodges Rushaga Gorilla Lodge and Engiri Game Lodge at Queen Elizabeth National Park. All of the lodge staffs were very friendly and accommodating. We also enjoyed our boat cruise at Kazinga channel. We came from Kenya and Tanzania before Uganda, but we saw nothing like this prior to this segment of the trip because we had never seen the forest elephants by the lagoon with hippos surrounding on the lake. We saw so many hippos there. We already miss our guide Herbert! He picked our PCR COVID test results from the lab and took us back to the airport the next morning. He is an excellent guide with a kind heart. We recommend Bamboo Ecotours for everyone that is looking for a honest and trustworthy tour company in Uganda!
