In terms of fun factor, definitely 10/10. We had tons of fun canoeing and swimming in the cold water. However we want to point out that it is not safe to hike wearing wetsuit shoes, no matter the fitness level, you should let the group wear proper hiking boots. Food was simple yet filling. Still overall a lot of fun.

My friend and I had an amazing time canoeing in the mangrove at pace, trekking through the island forest with our amazing guide Megu (Megumi-san) who knew all the insects and plants and seeds and explained it in perfect English, and our experience peaked with an awesome splash at the waterfall - even though we went at the end of October the weather was sunny and pleasant and we very glad we chose to do this tour! The track would probably be more slippery if it had rained, but the tour organizers offer special shoes and waterproof backpacks so it’s easy to clean after. There’s also a shower at the end of the tour so it is all worth it.

This is a difficult & painful review. This tour indeed is organised by Duck Tour, with Hirata Tourism an intermediate agency. High level rating:
Scenic of Sangara Falls: 4/5
Nature of activities: 4/5
Food (lunch): 3/5
Facilities (shower): 4/5
Equipment (dry bag & non-slippery boot): 3/5
Tour Guide: 4/5
Arrangement: 0/5
It was on Sunday. We were a group of 8, being part of the tour of total 16 participants (6 Japanese + 10 foreigners).
Everything start off with Japanese first, which is fine. Along trekking, most of the nature introduction was in Japanese. It’s fine too because the guide did take care of foreigners by shouting in English for slippery cautions. We all got a chance to have a close look at the lizard, which was caught by the guide. We appreciated.
Foreigners stay last continued on the way back. Continued when we lined up to dock from the kayak - but when a Japanese arrived, our kayak was pushed away and again Japanese first.
Back at the base, there were 4 shower rooms, but the 8 of us were assigned with 1. We were wet and muddy after the activities, but made to wait until all Japanese finished their showers. We couldn’t understand the logic, and kept being stung by insects while waiting to shower. I highly recommend Duck Tour not to take foreigners if that’s the intention.
Irrational arrangement honestly ruined all the goodies of this tour.
Tips for readers who won’t mind this kind of arrangement:
(1) this activity has a good balance of kayak & trek. Each way took 30mins and for each activity
(2) they will provide a bottle of iced Japanese tea, so no need to bring your own
(3) be sure you have extra set of cloths & tower for shower & change after the activity
(4) the hiking trek is very primitive, muddy, slippery and with high steps, has to be very careful as there is no fence / handle to prevent any fell off
(5) water at the water fall is cold. Part of the trekking has to cross a water pool with water level above knees (female) but indeed actual depth is around 1.8meter, just that there are a few big rocks at the bottom and make it walkable
My understanding there are different routes to Sangara Fall. Some arranged by local homestay / hostel. Some with stand paddle instead of Kayak.
Overall, Sangara Fall could be good choice for elementary level. Whereas Pinaisara Fall, the tallest fall in Okinawa, should have a more magnificent view, yet more demanding on energy.

Got the coupon via klook. Upon arrival at Iriomote Island, a guide will pick you up, travel by a small van to the base camp whereby you be given a crash course on kayaking, then off you go in a 30 mins kayaking to a jungle landing point whereby you will trek for another 30 mins and you will reach Sangara waterfall. Serene environment and super clear waters that you can see fishes swimming inside... Definitely worth the efforts! Highly recommended!

Everything went smoothly, and we appreciated the guides' approach a lot. They were both soft spoken, with great sense of humor, yet when it came to safety, there was no compromise. They also took the time to point out wildlife along the way, which would have been easy to miss without their trained eye.
For those who might be interested in doing this tour, here are two additional pieces of information that might be helpful: (1) they provide neoprene boots with felt soles that are great for walking on wet rocks. We kayaked and hiked in them, and felt our footing was secure. Plus, they were very comfortable. (2) they provide dry bags, so we could protect any belongings that needed to stay dry. Bulkier items that we didn't need could be left at the "base camp" close to where we got our kayaks.
Here is some more information about the day's activity that some may find helpful. Tour participants go to the tour company's office at the Ishigaki Ferry terminal. They give you the ferry tickets to Iriomote there. They also let us leave our suit cases there for free. After the ferry ride to Iriomote (about 45 minutes), we were met at the ferry terminal there by the guides, who drove us to the "base camp" (about 5-10 minutes from the ferry terminal). There, we got our equipment (felt soled neoprene boots, dry bag, kayak), bento lunch and an individual thermos of icy Japanese tea. The kayaks are tandem, so two of us got on one, while the other paddled a tandem kayak "solo."
The water was calm so no problem paddling up the river. After a very leisurely paddle of about 20 or 30 minutes, we went ashore, and hiked to a waterfall that is very wide, and about 10 ft tall. One family in our group had 2 small children (6 and 4 years old) with 3 adults, who had fun playing in the pool and gently sloping waterslide formed by flat rocks under the waterfall. We then went to a flat, rocky area above the waterfall, for the lunch break (rice balls, hard boiled egg, edamame, baked spam and sausage). We walked back to the kayaks via the same trail, and paddled downstream to the base camp.
A great day on a relaxing yet informative tour that let us experience nature in Iriomote.

Is this tour small dog friendly?

Singapore, Singapore71 bidrag
Not suitable to bring a dog along as there will be quite a bit of trekking through a forest and some of the paths are steep. The landing point for the kayak also requires a short walk...
Does this tour include snorkeling?

Hi, this particular tour of Iriomote is for kayaking and hiking to the waterfall only (i.e., no snorkeling). But the same company that hosted this tour may run snorkeling trips. I remember seeing advertisements for snorkeling tours in this area, and it looked and sounded amazing. I just can't remember if it was this company or another one.
