A 3 hour tour of Osaka's busy Dotonbori area, Our guide Russ from Arigato Japan Food Tours took us to some of his favourite food restaurants and food stalls which we would not have found ourselves. Along the way we were treated to an insight to Osaka's history and a couple of hidden shrines. We sampled Kushikatsu, Takoyaki , Taiyaki and Ramen. A great evening and would highly recommend it if you were looking for insider knowledge.

This was my wife and I first trip to Japan since moving to Okinawa. It was an unbelievable tour. Our guide Sae was extremely knowledgeable and welcoming host and we enjoyed our time exploring and getting to know Osaka. Would definitely recommend this tour!

On Monday, September 18 my husband and I ended our 3 week trip to Japan by touring Osaka Nightlife on a private food tour led by Marie. What a wonderful experience. Marie was a treasure and the food was terrific. We tasted things we hadn't had during the rest of our trip and learned about Osaka's version of things like sushi, which was wonderful. We especially enjoyed our meal in an izakaya. Great food and sake and we learned about the izakaya tradition. Five stars to Arigato and Marie.

Hicimos un tour gastronómico en Osaka con Marcos, nuestro guía de habla hispana. Nos llevó a degustar platillos típicos y a una “taberna” típica japonesa. Fue una experiencia genial e inolvidable, que hizo de nuestro viaje algo más especial.

Marie was the best hostess ever.
She took us to great bars and eateries around Dotonbori and was so knowledgeable in history of the area.
Could not recommend this tour enough

We were lucky enough to be guided by Russ on a brilliant 3ish hour tour of Dotonburi’s vibrant food scene, taking in 4 different establishments where we sampled ramen, octopus dumplings and kushikatsu (breaded shrimp, egg, asparagus, pork etc.)
Russ is a great guide, full of information about Osakan food, culture and history plus has lots to say about Japan in general which we found very interesting!
We all felt that the tour opened our eyes to Osaka which was a city we came to really like.

As part of our tour of Japan, we spent a fantastic 3 hours in Osaka one evening in July on a food tour with Rafael, our congenial host from Arigato Food Tours Japan, which turned out to be one of the highlights of our trip.
Rafael took us on a personal tour of the culinary and cultural delights of Osaka, sharing a cross-section of the city’s multiple cuisines at some of his favourite haunts, many of historical distinction. This included a legendary takoyaki diner (serving the city’s famous octopus balls); a renowned kushikatsu restaurant, where we enjoyed a selection of meat, fish and vegetable skewers; and a traditional izakaya, serving a wide selection of delicious grilled cuisine, okonomiyaki, and croquettes; we completed our evening with chocolate and red bean filled fish-shaped waffles, which were really good. The tour also included a free beverage of your choice.
Along the way, Rafael point out many local sights and insights into life in Osaka, such as the famous Glico Man, various shrines and alleyways that make the city such an interesting and vibrant destination. The evening was great fun, energised by Rafael’s local knowledge and engaging personality. We were completely full by the end of it - highly recommended!

Had a great time with Micky on our whirlwind night food tour through Osaka's Dotonbori district. All the takoyaki, katsu, tamagoyaki, taiyaki, dumplings, beff, pork, chicken, sweet potato, onions, seafood, sake, beer, sodas, sweets, sights, sounds, smells... Exactly what we were looking for to introduce us to Osaka and its people, food, and culture!

Sae Kajita showed us the best of Osaka food in charming little isakayas and stalls, sharing fun and interesting details as she went. We had our two twenty something year old sons with us who loved every minute. Great job!

This is a good first night/day experience to orient yourself around the Dotonbori area. Miki is a great and veteran guide: she explained to us the history of the area as well as details around all the food we tried out. She was both professional and personable. She is a 5-star guide for sure. A huge asset to the tour company and for you if you book the tour.
However, the price is steep, not just compared to other tours in Osaka but around the world. (for the same price range, i did a 6-hour food tour in Tokyo that was very comprehensive.) I think I got my money's worth since it was just the 3 of us and it felt like a private tour. I would feel less value if this had been the full 10-person tour.
Other: I found it a little odd that we did not stop for okonomiyaki. Moreover, it's not clear if the "dessert" stop is one of the 4 included stops described on both TripAdvisor's page and the Arigato Japan's website. They should make it crystal clear what you're getting. (I counted 3 stops + 1 dessert.)
Tip: book direct through Arigato Japan Tours's website

Thank you for the kind comments and ALSO the helpful feedback. We always want to improve and are glad when guests take the time to let us know all the things they loved and the things we can do better at. We are always reviewing the website descriptions sorry if it was not so clear. AND we are always looking at the food choices to make things even more delicious. Our thinking on Okonomiyaki was that many guests in the past had already tried it when they arrived in Osaka or were planning on it - so we tried to highlight great takoyaki, kushikatsu, and other Osaka specialties but a hidden-gem Okonomiyaki place is something we are considering adding to our other evening osaka tour in Shinsekai. Thanks for your helpful comments. About the cost: Japan is an expensive destination and we try to pay our guides well and constantly invest in their training and support as well as choosing good food spots that often have expensive table charges etc. We know we are a bit more expensive than others but we try our best to be worth it. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
