The first and the second time I went to Malaysia (9 and 6 years ago), I chose Chen because of the great reviews on Tripadvisor. We all adored it and I was stunned by the way Chen handeled our group of 50 students, parents and teachers - in a real and proper jungle trek. Definitely not something anyone can do. I certainly consider him one of the best guides in the world. I had done quite some trekkings around the world but I could do this one again and again. If you're travelling to Malaysia (and if you like adventures like swimming beneath a waterfall), do take time to do one of the trips with him.
Firstly, he always makes 150% sure (not only 100) that you will stay safe - which is not that easy when you have children with you.
Secondly, he has a brilliant sense of humour and last but not least, staying at Sarang by the Brook is such a unique and wonderful experience that this year, when we had our trip and stayed there with my family, our children said they wished they could just stay there forever. I also cannot go past the food that we ate as Chen was always taking us to places and spoiling us with delicious dishes (and the best cookies ever). I am not sure when we’ll have the chance to return but whenever we will, we’ll surely return.

Chen is a LEGEND! This tour simply had everything, tasting local food (breakfast,lunch,dinner), beautiful jungle, seeing natives, waterfalls, swimming, hiking, having loads of fun, beautiful photos (he's a professional) and generally SUPER EASY-GOING guy, who made my experience so pleasant and chilled.
Chen also knows so many interesting & fun facts about his country/area, so it was very educative as well, but in a such a fun way.
He also made sure I'm feeling ok during the whole day, very accommodating and mindful!
This was the day after I arrived to KL and I needed to escape the RUSH of the city and I got much more than that, if I had more time in KL, I would also stay in his legendary bed'n'breakfast place right next to the jungle with singing apes haha.
If you're going to KL and you're also nature lover, this is your spot, no long driving like other hiking tours, overall we spent in the car max 2hrs from the whole day.
Thank you again Chen, you've set the bar very high for my travelling experiences right on the beginning of it. 💛

This was a lot of fun! I did this trek with two of my colleagues. Chen took a lot of care to pick us up at our hotels and stayed in contact with us leading up to the trip. He answered my silly questions with grace (mosquito repellent is okay, but not really necessary ☺️). We felt well prepared for the trek before we even boarded our respective flights thanks to Chen’s communication. The trek itself was amazing. It’s muddy, so please make sure to bring shoes and attire you don’t mind getting dirty. I wanted to take my time to enjoy the natural scenery and the sounds without pushing myself. I was a bit slower than the others, but I never felt rushed or like an inconvenience when I caught up to them. The waterfalls were lovely, and wading in the water was a great way to cool off in the middle of the trek. Going down was quite a bit easier than going up. There are a few steep and slippery places. Don’t be embarrassed to use a hiking stick! You will absolutely need it for a few spots. Chen will supply hiking sticks for you, and you don’t have to prepare those in advance. We ate three meals together, each one focusing on one of the three main cultural groups in Malaysia. Everything was absolutely wonderful, and I highly recommend the tour!

What a trip!! Amazing !! , we did what we thought was similar in Thailand but it was quite touristy .
When it says this is a jungle trek that's what it is . My husband and I are quite fit and it was ok for us . Amazing to be at one with nature . We barely saw any other people . Such a wonderful jungle experience the waterfall at the top making the 2 hr hike worth while. Chen was great, so knowledgable ..breakfast , lunch and diner were all great and very authentic . Can't recommend enough

Excellent trip with a brilliant & helpful guide, Chen who made contact via WhatsApp before & leading up to the trip giving lots of info including what we'd need to bring. On the day, prompt collection from our city centre hotel, before travelling to a little town for an authentic Indian breakfast. Chen describes everything so well, including fascinating recent Malaysian history and info about the local cultures. Lovely traditional Malaysian picnic lunch provided & also a local Chinese noodle dinner afterwards. The trek is physically quite tough if you are unfit. My husband was carrying an injury and did struggle a bit, but Chen kept the pace reasonable to account for this & helped him on the way down. There were regular water breaks too. However, the exertions were well worth while. The sounds & sights of the jungle were amazing to experience. The two swims in ponds by the waterfalls were my highlights and we had plenty of time to rest and enjoy the experience at both stops. I would highly recommend this trip & thanks to Chen-including for the photos and videos he sent afterwards too.

The jungle tour with Chen was one of my highlights during my visit in Malaysia. Chen is a really nice tour guide, knows the jungle well and told us many interesting stories. Everything was well organized and we got a taste of different cuisines through our meals during the day. I would highly recommend this tour to everyone who loves to see the jungle!

An amazing and rewarding experience. Our tour guide Chen ( along with the hunting dogs from the local native village) made us feel at ease and safe within the Malaysian jungle. Chen and his wife gave us an In-depth glimpse into Indigenous culture, Malaysian history and spiritual beliefs, as well as shared expert knowledge on local jungle animals, flora and fauna. The waterfall ( the cleanest water we have been in and the perfect temperature) at the top was well worth the 4.5 hour hike there and back. This experience is also not limited to the hike itself, with Chen and his wife also going above and beyond by providing pick up and drop off, allowing us to rehydrate and shower at their Airbnb, as well as introducing us to a whole day of drinks, traditional Malaysian breakfast, lunch and dinner foods.
Would highly recommend and wish this company the best on its future venture.

My sister and I had a wonderful experience visiting the beautiful scenery and waterfalls to be found on this trek. Chen is an excellent guide, we enjoyed yummy, authentic food and had lots of interesting chats with Chen and his partner Jules. We felt very at ease with them and learned lots about Malaysia whilst having a very exciting time in nature! Our highlight was getting to swim in the power of the waterfall, followed by a delicious nasi lemak eaten on the rocks. Highly recommended for anyone looking to get a flavour of authentic Malay cuisine, learn about the history and culture and connect with its jungles!

We have been all over the World over the years and done many things so when we say this is just about the best trip we have ever done hopefully explains how brilliant it was. If you are ever in Kuala Lumper, you really should meet Governor Chen.
Not only was the trip into the Malayan jungle an amazing experience but the stories and information you get from Chen are another level of interesting. Ask Chen about the Pontianak he caught on camera and the famous story of the girl who disappeared - you will never forget it!
Then there is the waterfall, worth all the effort to get to it. In the 8 hours of so we were in the Jungle, we passed two other people on the way back down, that's how remote it is.

It was just unbelievable and amazing experience for me and my wife. We hiked through the rainforest, enjoyed by the nature and scenic views. The waterfall was spectacular as well. The only thing I would suggest - be ready for raining. Just because it’s Malaysia, and it’s a RAINforest. I recommend this tour, and Chen personally, - all was just fabulous and 11 of 10 (despite we were completely wet on the way back).

It looks like it might be rainy when I am in KL. Will the tour be cancelled, or not worth it, in that type of weather? Thanks.

it was rain until starting the trip and it was great the trip and if it will rain it will be grat to just to have some adecvat equipement.

I am with a boy at age 6. He likes to trek, no physical problem for full day trek. can he join?
Also, am i expected to have hiking boots, or sandals like KEEN should be fine?

The boy should be fine; Chen sets the pace according to the group. But sandals - depending on the recent weather - could be an awful choice. When I went there a week or two ago the path was occasionally very slippery due to recent rain showers. Just make sure your footwear has good grip.
The sandals are a great choice for when you reach the waterfall though, as the pool is very rocky, which - along with the current - makes it hard to keep your balance while wading into the water.
