Very expensive for what we experienced. Most of the buildings do not allow entry and one could have simply driven in a car and seen the places. Victoria Memorial was disappointing, not because of the tour, but there is nothing from the British Empire left. It has been converted to a memorial to Netaji Subash Chandra Bose. The rest was just walking

We took an exceptional walking/driving tour with Kaushik C. His normal tour is nearly 4 hours. Recognizing that some of our team members may not be able to walk for that long, he modified it for us.
He is exceptionally knowledgeable not just about the city but the broader context of the city’s role in Indian and British history.
He is a great story teller which made the tour a lot of fun.
Highly recommended.

The Raj heritage walk gets you up close and personal with Calcutta like nothing else I have ever experienced before. The 300+ year old city comes alive during this beautifully paced 3 hours walk (we actually took nearly 4 hours but enjoyed every bit of it!) through the intriguing narrative shared by Kaushik Chatterjee. His incredible knowledge about history, architecture and cultural heritage makes the walk engaging for all. Just to give you a perspective - My 14 Yr daughter and my 75 year old father both had joined me and my husband for the walk - and everyone thoroughly enjoyed it. Just to give you a perspective - the instagram obsessed teen forgot about taking selfies and listened intentfully throughout the walk. I would not just highly recommend this - but encourage you to try this once with friends/family. Just a word of advise - wear good walking shoes and carry a bottle of water!

Headline: Go to Kolkata and have a tour with Kaushik!
What an amazing city, and what a great introduction to it through this walking tour. I have family links to Kolkata, but didn't really know a lot about it until now. Going on this tour was a perfect way to start to learn about this fascinating place, and left me hungry for more. It's a very early start, but that way you get to wander round the city at a (relatively) tranquil time and see it starting to wake up. Kaushik is an engaging guide. He has an encyclopedic knowledge of the city and it is good to have the chance hear and understand the Indian / Bengali take on the Raj and the British in India, rather than what we might get at home. You learn a lot more wandering round the streets with him for a few hours than you could ever do from a guide book. I hope to go back again at some point and, if I do, I would not hesitate to get back in touch for another tour.

This is one of the best city tours I have been on anywhere in the world. Kaushik is incredibly knowledgeable about Kolkata and its history, and this tour is the perfect introduction to one of the most picturesque and interesting parts of Kolkata. In three hours we covered an enormous amount, yet thanks to Kaushik’s style of storytelling the time flew by. He also gave us plenty of ideas for what to visit later on our trip; recommendations that all proved to be perfect. I really recommend this tour - Kolkata is an incredibly complex and sometimes difficult to appreciate city; this tour gives you a very insightful and meaningful understanding of it.
If possible, I would schedule this tour for early in your trip to Kolkata, as you will leave with plenty of recommendations of places to visit later. If possible, you should also ask Kaushik about his other tours - I did a private tour with him later in my stay in Kolkata and that was brilliant too.

Thanks to Kaushik we ended up spending an outstanding morning in the streets of Kolkata. His knowledge about every nook and corner of this city is surreal, his style of narrating is unique and his ability to connect the dots between history, geography and sociology simply stands out.
We saw the city with his eyes and saw it like I have never seen it before. Same streets that I have bustled through during my youth visiting one office from another suddenly seemed to come alive as he explained the genesis and showed us evidences of his theory.
Given his tight schedule and multiple preoccupation I am not sure how many of you can avail this walk but if you can manage to book this in advance please do not miss the opportunity.
KOLKATA will stand out in your eyes

My husband and I did a private tour with Kaushik around Kolkata for the Raj Heritage walk - and it was amazing! He was very well-read on the history of Kolkata and managed to weave it into a memorable story. He walked us through Dalhousie Square, Tank Square, covered all the British-themed buildings and allowed us to modify the tour to add the Flower Market,Howrah Bridge, Kumartuli as well. As a first generation Indian American, Kaushik explained more about the nuances of Kolkata than even my parents managed to explain to me as a kid growing up. He also was friendly to the locals as we went about the tour and explained alot about his non-profit work as well. It was great to get a sense of not just the history of Kolkata but how it functions today as well!

Raj tours was very informative and gave a great overview of the development of Kolkata. I enjoyed walking around the city looking at the British architecture and watching the city slowly wake up, shop venders getting ready for a busy a day, men washing in the streets - there a lot to look at.

KC was amazing. The best 4 hours in Kolkata.
His depth of knowledge of the buildings in old Kolkata was incredible. His eye for detail and the stories he told brought alive what was a rich and colourful past.
He is a caring and attentive guide and a great ambassador for his city, its past and present.
I can't recommend a walking tour with Kolkata Story Tours highly enough.
Absolutely brilliant.
