We were fortunate to run into Captain Dave, Madison and Big D while we were dining at Ketchikan Crab and Go (delicious). We were mesmerized by the Alaska images/scenery playing on the TV and we were easily persuaded to join the Bering Sea Crab tour! The stories and presentation from the captain and crew were moving and amazing! We bought the book, which expanded on the stories and found the book to be the same - moving and amazing. This was our best Alaska excursion and wish there was a rating higher than 5 stars!

Such a fun adventure. Would recommend for any age! The crew is so personable and fun! Loved the touch tank! You don't have to be a deadliest catch fan or have even seen the show to have a great time!

Unforgettable Alaskan Experience with Bearing Sea Adventure!
Our experience with Bearing Sea Adventure out of Ketchikan was nothing short of extraordinary! From the moment we boarded, Captain Big D and Dave captivated us with their infectious enthusiasm and entertaining sea stories. They were not only knowledgeable but also incredibly warm and welcoming, making the entire adventure feel like a personal journey into the heart of Alaskan culture.
We were fortunate to witness the breathtaking sight of eagles soaring overhead, whales gracefully breaching the surface, and seals playfully swimming around us. The highlight, however, was the chance to purchase and savor the freshest king crab we've ever tasted—an absolute culinary delight!
Despite the chilly weather, the ceiling heaters and cozy jackets provided by the crew ensured that we stayed warm and comfortable throughout the trip. The commercial fishing demonstrations were fascinating, and the way Captain Big D and Dave wove poignant sea stories into the experience added a depth of authenticity that made the tour truly memorable.
I highly recommend this tour to anyone seeking a genuine Alaskan adventure. It's an experience you'll treasure forever!

My family and I loved this experience. I would recommend this to anyone heading to Ketchikan. The gentleman on the boat shared their experiences and made sure we got to see and get pictures of all the amazing marine life. We saw a lot of bald eagles as well. To top it off. The weather was absolutely amazing. Go see them!

This is one of the best tours we had on our Alaska adventure. The stories were heartfelt and entertaining. The crabbing (and octopus) was awesome as were the eagles. It was cool and raining but they gave us rain gear. There were covered areas for those less adventuresome. A great tour

It was everything as described and more! We got to learn all about fishing for king crabs and the stories of many different fishermen.
Seeing all of the different crabs and fish and being able to hold them was so cool. The bald eagle part may have been my favorite. My son loved the experience.

Loved it! Super interesting to hear their life stories and listen to them talk. More than 3 hour tour that felt like 1h as time flew by! Definitely worth doing if going to Ketchikan. Would do it again today if I could!

You don't need to be a Deadliest catch fan to appreciate how hard working on a crab boat is. Just listening to their stories and being up front and close to the action watching what it takes to pull crab pots makes you understand. The whole crew was amazing - it really is an interactive experience. You are able to explore the boat and touch and hold different sea life. Highly recommend this tour!

Good Day,
Under the tour description it says "Bering Sea king crab, as well as rockfish, eel, octopus, and prawns."
However, I keep reading in the reviews the Sea King Crab is made out of plastic and not a real catch. Please clarify. Thanks

This tour is a microcosm of what actually takes place on a real crab boat in the Bearing Sea. It would be impossible for a boat to go out once a day, set and then retrieve a crab pot with live crabs in a 3 hour window. What they actually do is that they have 2 of the large pots already set in place. They go through the procedure of bringing both on board and then resetting them in the same place for the next day. One pot has live crabs of a species that can survive being captured and kept in that environment. King Crabs cannot. The second pot does have plastic replicas of King Crab along with live octopus, rockfish etc. that also can survive captivity.
The boat has a long shallow aquarium that holds quite a few live King Crab along with everything else mentioned. The crew will remove the King Crab and let you hold it for as long as you want. A picture holding one of these things is a blast. The whole tour was a blast.

Do you offer a military discount? My husband and I are retired military. Do you pick up at the cruise ship port?
Thanks, Judy
Skrevet 3. september 2019
I do not know if they offer a discount for military. The Bearing Sea boat will be docked at the pier.

Do you also see whales on this Bering Sea Crab Fisherman's Tour?
Skrevet 11. april 2019
We may have seen a whale on the tour but the focus was eagles and the crab process. Saw lots of whales further North. The Sea Crabbing tour was a great excursion with Captain and Crew that do a great job. I highly recommend this excursion.

What do they do with all the things they catch? Are they released or used for food?
Skrevet 9. desember 2018
Did anyone book direct with tour versus through the cruise line? If so, were there any issues?
Skrevet 14. juni 2018
I booked through Holland America and had no issues at all.
Skrevet 17. juni 2018
How far a walk is it from the cruise ship dock to where the Bering Sea Crab Fisherman's tour is? And one of our traveling companions gets sea sick fairly easily. Wondering if anyone has thoughts on this?
Skrevet 29. april 2018
PS they don’t go fast and they stay in the bay (calm waters). It’s a great boat with an impressive history. It is a very sweet tour, great group of people!
