Katie was great, very informative and patient. She is very good at intertidal biology, and made the whole kayaking trip fun and educational.

Awesome adventure with once-in-a-lifetime experiences! Our guides, Ali and Kenan, were very welcoming and enthusiastic as well as knowledgeable. We took this adventure as part of our cruise through Holland America.
During the safety briefing I kept hearing this weird squeaking noise. I found it difficult to listen. Even Ali stopped the briefing and looked around. Next thing we know the squeaking started moving under the dock beneath our feet. Soon, an otter head poked out! He ducked back under the dock and squeaked back and forth, poking his head out every now and then. Finally, he swam off.
Then, we all got in our kayaks and headed out. I have never kayaked before, but Ali and Kenan were such good instructors that it just seemed easy. I never got sore or tired (well, my knees ached toward the end).
So we looked for sea stars (or starfish). We saw a ton! They were purple! We saw some orange ones too.
Then we spotted some eagles watching us. Just as we were admiring the eagles, some sea lions appeared in front of us. They didn't wait for me to take a picture. Bummer.
So then we headed toward the island. Soon, we noticed blow from a whale. That immediately followed 4 more blows. 5 whales! Awesome. We all paddled faster to get closer. Next thing we know, the 5 whales all jumped out of the water with their mouths open. It turns out this was a bubble feeding. Which is a rare sighting. Ali and Kenan explained what a bubble feeding was. Their enthusiasm was really peaking at this point. But then so was mine.
We learned to watch the sea gulls. They could tell when a bubble feed was about to happen and they circled the area. We were able to watch four more feedings! Amazing.
About this time, my knees were aching from using the rudders so I stretched my legs out. I lost the rudders and couldn't get them back. Ali (or Kenan, I get them confused) stayed with us as we zig zagged our way back to the dock. Its a lot harder to steer a 2 person kayak than you would think. Next time, I'll just wait till the excursion is over to stretch my legs.
Anyway, I highly recommend this excursion! And ask for Ali and Kenan - they will treat you right!

Great experience. Beautiful day and scenery. Small group allowed lots of interaction with Keenan, our guide. She was very knowledgeable and provided lots of good info on the things we saw and other local info.

The weather was nice and there were plenty of wildlife. Bald Eagles were a little loud. Jacob & Keenan did a good job explaining the waterlife creatures

Our ship pulled up to port with gloriously blue skies. The Eagle Island Sea Kayak group was easy to find on the dock and the 30 minute bus trip to the Southeast Exposure Outdoor Adventure Center was comfortable and efficient. Our driver Angie shared some fun facts about Ketchikan along the way. When we arrived at the adventure center, our guides Ali and Jacob were easy going, knowledgeable and experienced. They went out of there way to make sure everyone had a comfortable and enjoyable experience. So far the trip has been great… here’s where it gets outstanding, perhaps once in a lifetime. Before we even get in the kayaks, we can see humpback whales in the cove just off shore. It quickly became apparent to our guides that they were bubble feeding. If you are unfamiliar with this phenomenon, Google it now. It was majestic to witness! In brief, a group of whales work in cooperation circling about in the water creating a bubble net. This traps fish and drives them to the surface. It all culminates with the whales bursting forth on the surface with their giant mouths gaping open to feed on the marine feast. Our guides polled the group and we all agreed to abandon the prescribed kayak route and we spent the entire time following the whales around the cove as this awesome event occurred over and over. The sea was like glass, the whales were epic, the weather was ideal and our guides were amazing. I am confident that no matter the time of year, wildlife, weather or conditions your experience will be unique and wonderful with this crew.

Keenan gave us the choice of the regular tour or to follow the whale pod which was bubble feeding. We spent hours kayaking near 4 whales! ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!!!! Oh, and the two sea lion mascots that play near their dock was another unexpected treat!

Keenan, was an awesome guide with great local knowledge. She kept us informed and entertained while pointing out sites of interest and wildlife as we kayaked.

Unbelievable experience. We enjoyed a fun 20 boat ride to a cove. The staff was informative about the area we were happening on. We were fitted in kayaks and allowed to get comfortable. Then we enjoyed a 3 hour trip around the coast seeing jelly fish, mussels, and numerous bald eagles. What an adventure! Max was our main guy and his passion for nature and specifically Alaska was impressive. He was quite the treat. Carly was also on the trip and was fun and engaging. Her love of the water and Alaska was evident. Our last encounter was with Betsy. What a ride back to the starting point. Betsy was quite fun and full of local info. This was a don’t missed

Our shop docks at 7:00 am will be able to make the 7:30 am excursion?

Pick up was right in front of cruise ship and travel time was about twenty minutes. They were well coordinated with the docking times.

I'm not sure because we were not on a cruise when we went. I would call Southeast and ask them. I know they were very concerned about getting ship guests back in time for departure. Have fun!

can you please tell me if the 3.5 hours includes travel time from the cruise ship dock to the launch point? Our ship, Norwegian Pearl, is leaving at 1:15 pm. Ideal time for us would be 8:30 to noon with drop off at Creek Street where we can then walk around for a little while after kayacking, is this doable or is 7:30 start required? Any discount for 3 adults? Thank you.
