      Fantastisk opplevelsestur!
My i h`mong stammen kom å hentet oss i Sapa by.

I highly recommend this tour operator for a hiking excursion in Sapa. The experience of trekking through the stunning rice terraces was extraordinary. The guides were knowledgeable and friendly, making the journey both enjoyable and informative. The breathtaking landscapes and the rich cultural encounters made this trip unforgettable. Don't miss this adventure!

We had the batik experience with my 13 year old son; what a pleasure to land and create in the good smells of beeswax.
Then we made a 2-day trek in a family of 3; our Guide was listening and adapted the trek to our shape. We were received in really charming families. We feasted, played and slept well.
Ethos seems to be a very good choice to help and discover this ethnic minority.

Wow! This experience was exactly as I had hoped. My family and I felt welcome from the moment we arrived at Ethos. The informal but informative chat before we left on our tour was great and our guide May Linh was happy, helpful and informative all along the walk. The homestay for lunch was such a great experience and we left feeling very full. The opportunity for a herbal bath was relaxing and finished our tour perfectly. It was a big day but one I highly recommend. Thankyou.

Overall this is a must do in Sa Pa.

Ethos is devoted to supporting local women of various ethnic miniorities in the area via this Homestay experience. As a customer, I really felt their support of the the various communities that live in the area.

We did an overnight trek. On the first day you will do an intro prior to beginning your trek with Paul and Hoa. This is useful because it gives you context for who the ethnic groups are and what the historical and current experience is like in Vietnam. This gives you a better appreciation for the Homestay experience and the family you are going to be staying with.

Before you start the trek, Ethos provides you with 1.5 L of water. Make sure you wear good hiking shoes as the trek can be muddy. Having said that, it’s a lot of fun. The guide will take you through the forest and along the rice fields. Prepare to get dirty but it’s a lot of fun and the guide is extremely helpful during the trek to help you through some tougher patches. In addition, the guide gave us the choice between a more paved rough and less paved one so I would think even if you are less capable of the a strenuous trek they can accommodate various levels. However, I would confirm this with the hosts before you book.

The first day we trekked for ~10 K which took us to about 2 pm. During the trek we foraged some small eggplant and peaches. The peaches we ate and eggplant we collected for dinner.

We then stopped for lunch and the guide’s brothers home. This was a nice experience because many of tue guide’s extended family was present including her mother, children, brother and nephews. It was nice to see all the generations in one household. The meal was great and consisted of rice, veggies, tofu, pork. There’s more than enough food and rice!

We then went to the guide’s home where we spent the rest of the afternoon/evening playing with her children. They also took us trekking near the home. After this we ate dinner, which included the foraged eggplant. Again, it was another fanatstic meal eaten family style. It was particularly a nice experience because you saw how the entire family worked to prepare dinner and then enjoy.

The last activity of the evening was an herbal bath and this was by far a highlight. It’s so restorative and smells amazing.

We had a private room to sleep in after this. We found the bathroom quite comfortable and there’s was lots of privacy.

The following day we are breakfast (which consisted of fried rice and eggs) and then went on our second trek. This one was closer to 14 K. It’s strenuous but doable and again the guide gave us the option of taking a more paved route versus going into the rice fields. We chose the latter and would recommend this for people who are more physically capable. The path was muddy at times and the few slips, however, there is a lot of fun and he really got up and close with the rice patties. We also got tons of great photos.

Once finished we went bath to Ethos for a derbief. There’s was coffee/tea and a hot shower and towels for us. This was extremely helpful as our next stop was an overnight bus and we would not have had another opportunity to get cleaned up.

I cannot say enough about how gracious and accommodating everyone was. This was a great experience and for anyone worried about food, I would argue it’s some of the best we have had in Vietnam so far.

    Cannot recommend this experience enough!

Truly one of the most astonishing travel experiences ever! This small company has established a deserved reputation for creating tour (and class) activities that can be contoured for all ages, physical abilities and most interests. I’ve done a couple of trips and adventures with them plus classes in fabric art (embroidery and batik). Each one was fun, informative and affordable.

Most telling perhaps is that fact that, if you sit in the community center after your own tour/class, you get to see all the other visitors returning: wide smiles, bubbling excitement. Such a rare opportunity to not only trek thru wondrous landscapes but to visit, and sample, local food and culture in an intimate, immersive, non-group experience.

And it all costs less than a middling lunch in my own home country!

Wow, what an awesome experience. On of the best tours we have done!
Worth the entry ticket alone just for the intro talk with Phil & Cha. A history of the local tribes , their exploitation by the French, siding with the Americans during the war & their treatment by the Vietnamese since then.
Certainly Cha’s PE experience is vastly different to our’s back in Australia.
And then we set off on an extraordinary trek through the local rice paddies, corn fields, etc. Our guide My was fantastic in explaining how the locals live & survive, the foods they grow, how they make & use the indigo - staining my daughter’s hands much to her delight.
Lunch was in a local village. A feast of home made deliciousness, all simply cooked over an open fire. Just home grown ingredients & simply herbs to flavour. My explained each dish, as we watched & were enchanted by her stories of her life, her family, her mother!
This is an incredible experience & we cannot recommend it enough.
We will be back, next time doing an overnight home stay.
Thank you Phil & Hoa & My.

**Review for Ethos: 5 out of 5 stars**

We participated in a batik course and a two-day hike with an overnight stay. It was wonderful! First, we received an excellent introduction to the life and people in Sapa.

Our batik course was so enjoyable, and our teacher, Me, explained everything beautifully.

The two-day hike was also fantastic. We explored the depths of Sapa and stayed and dined with extraordinarily kind people. Me was also our guide for this part of the trip.

Overall, it was an unforgettable experience.

Oh amazing amazing Sa Pa brought to life by Ethos and their amazing Hmong people. My tour guide Tra and I collaborated to create truly a trip I will never ever forget. It will stay with me forever. My words and my pictures will never truly describe this experience. At times arduous and confronting at other times serene, awe inspiring and inspirational. If you want to see the real Sa Pa and bit the sanitised touristic Sa Pa you need Ethos and people like Tra to guide you. I made a commitment to myself to never travel without learning about the cultures and communities I enter alongside another commitment to give more than I get and Ethos is activating community projects alongside their treks and tours. Please trust Ethos to guide you safely and respectfully through Sa Pa and beyond. Hoa their fearless leader will also support you with logistics, suggestions, additional support and if you are nice a coffee before and after your trek! Truly life-changing experience I will carry with me for life.

We loved our Ethos cultural trek with Ker as our guide. We learnt so much while seeing unbelievable scenery. Ker was a patient, considerate and informative guide. She explained everything carefully and gave us options all the way. We are so glad we chose Ethos. They are empowering the local H’Mong people and they are different to so many other tour groups we saw in the valley. We saw no other tourists on our first day! Just spectacular mountains, local homes who welcomed us with great food and friendly Hmong people going about their day. Highly recommend.

Our family of five (children age 10-19) wanted to track in Sa Pa. We saw the recommendation for Ethos in Lonely Planet and sent an e-mail to get recommendations for a two-day trek. The response was quick and it was very easy to get Information and plan the trek. We were looking for a more challenging two-day track with homestay trying to get away from the more commercial ones.

Ended up trekking the Buffalo Valley. We had quite a lot of rain on our trek, but that did not put a damper to our experience. The guide, scenery, villages, local food, animals made it an experience for life! Ethos sold the perfect trip where we felt that we were really off the beaten track the two days.

We had also special dietary requirements (gluten), and that was no problem.

The welcoming family and guide made this a personal and friendly experience.
