We did the 3 night/4 day stay at Tremisana Lodge. This worked out perfectly for our plans, picked up at our hotel in Johannesburg and drove to the Lodge with some other passengers in a spacious van. Plenty of bathroom stops and a stop for lunch on the way. Arrive to what we can only describe as what one would expect in a safari lodge, not trendy and out of place, but just as you would like it to look. We wore our "insect shield" clothing and had no real issues with mosquitos. The staff is helpful and they do try to accommodate all food restrictions, the soups were OUTSTANDING and delicious! Food is plentiful, but bring your own snack items, although they do have a bar.
We saw so many animals, almost all of the Big Five except for the leopard. The bush walk is very interesting, you learn a lot of tidbits. I would highly recommend using Viva Safaris for your safari, they are flexible and affordable. We made a lot of friends among the other guests, and had lovely conversations with them during our stay.

My 3rd visit with Viva Safari and as ALWAYS, it was a charm! What a joy to see familiar faces and new friends! Ri, we appreciate all that you did for us! Victor, Yuri and Smiley…every drive was fun and informative! Mama, and the whole kitchen/housekeeping staff - amazing! Felt like we stayed at a family house. We patiently waited through the pandemic and booked as soon as we were able. May continued blessings cover you!

Wir haben vier tage in der tremisana Lodge verbracht. Unser zimmer war mit einem ventilator, air condition und einem moskitonetz ausgestattet und wurde täglich gereinigt. Das essen war abwechungsreich und es wurde dreimal täglich für uns gekocht. Die Guides mit denen wir die game drives gemacht haben waren sehr lustig und erfahren und wir haben sogar alle big 5 gesehen! Für uns waren das wirklich spannende Tage die wir dort verbracht haben und wir machen das sicher nochmal!!!

Had the time of my life ! Saw all the big 5 with a Bonus of 2 cheetahs hunting down some wildebeest. Staff are super cool and helpful, and I would like to thank Raymond, Fortune and Victor for taking me on game drives, bush walks and giving me this amazing experience ! I would definitely recommend going with viva safaris

Brian and I always wanted to go to Kruger and like everyone- “See the big five!” Thanks to miles and flight availability we were able to get to JNB but faced with the dilemma of finding a good tour operator. Prices are daunting when you search the web, and hard to middle through all the options. Viva had a fairly straight forward website, some nice reviews, and met our price point.
We wanted- a trip to Kruger- decent lodging with AC and limited mosquitos- some opportunity to see the Big 5. 9 of us took the mini bus from hotels near JNB (we didn’t go in to the city and no one gave it worthwhile reviews as a must see). The mini van picked us up at 0930 and we stopped once before lunch at 1200. After lunch, vans swapped and we had our final group of 9 who we would remain with most of the trip. On arrival, each of us were shown our rooms and prepped for our sunset safari. Rooms were nice, AC, clean and mosquito netting (not needed). FYI- after the first night groups are divided the next day in to those remaining in the Tremesana Lodge or going to the tented site or treetop site. Our new friends at the camp said it was hot- bathroom down the path and animals are all around (small and the site is not fenced as is the lodge). The treetop group thought that was cool with a small balcony overlooking the reserve.
Ok, so after the sunset safari back to a welcome dinner outside under the stars- very cool. Food was fine and really who cares- a pack of hyenas was eying is up, bottles of great South African wine for $9 and our new friends talking about our day. Our host Pretty kept us informed and our guide Fortune ensured we saw lions- and only because of his determination. The next day say a sunrise walk which was cool- not a lot is sightings on foot but cool to see the hippos along the river and learn some things. Back for a break then at 3p another 4 hour safari with a break for snacks in the bush (more wine). Dinner was great as we were exhausted and needed to get up for Kruger the next day. Full days in Kruger(about an hour away) and it was fantastic to see- long day. Final day sunrise ride, breakfast and ride back to the airport.
Here’s what we liked- defiantly enjoyed the accommodations with AC and bathroom- it can rain a lot- and mosquitos can be a problem- just be aware when you book your choice. Food was good- ok not 5star restaurant but more than enough. I am sure they will try to meet any special needs, but you are on a reserve, not home, so give them some slack. Staff was above average- better than many hotels or cruise ships- they go out of their way to ensure you are happy! It’s well organized and the logistics are well oiled to get you to and from each scheduled event. The ONLY downsides had was tipping. As the guides are dependent on tipping, you need to keep about $7US or more pp for each outing or driver. I do wish it could be added to the bill like cruise ships and you could adjust, as we didn’t bring enough cash. Bar bill is in cash as well- so be prepared. Final thoughts- I thought the 4 Day Classic was perfect- think 3 Day would be too short. Loved the options Viva provided on lodging- choices were great. EVERY staff member at Viva was great- from pre-booking questions on email, booking ease, information of pickup, drivers, vans, lodging, food and booze, organization all exceeded my expectations. The cost was reasonable and covers everything from our pick up at the airport to our return 4 days later. Thank Viva

Firstly- going on safari with vivasafaris is all about going into nature to see wildlife in their natural habitat. To do that, there are a certain amount of other things within a budget lifestyle that you may choose to cope with. But if you are wanting a high standard of food and accommodation, perhaps look elsewhere or book their 4*. Here are things that you do need to know about getting to the park and about the accommodation with vibasafaris.
1. If you are being collected from JNB, the journey to Trimisana takes all day and is an extremely bumpy and tiering but there are frequent rest stops. If you are lucky, the bus is not full. It’s a long drive to be squashed next to someone you may not know. Remember that this is South African driving and the standard of driving may vary to where you come from. For us, we are still recovering from the one driver constantly playing on the accelerator and another who actually drove quite dangerously and we all commented on it to each other. These drivers were not the game drivers who were all very good.
2. Given that you are seeing animals in their natural habitat and you are in the middle of a game reserve where the accommodation is very basic but adequate for a couple of days. We stayed 3 nights at Trimisana Lodge. We had an email acknowledging that we would have a twin room but this was still not available on arrival which was frustrating but was resolved eventually. Trimisana is an older lodge and has seen a bit of wear and tear. If you compare it to a 3*, it really doesn’t hit the mark and I don’t know that I could have stayed longer than 3 nights. However, all the staff were very friendly and added to the safari experience.
3. Food- interesting for a European palate and was quite challenging and more so if you had certain dietary needs.
4. The shop is not even worth looking at but there is a pool with loungers.
5. There is no where to go outside Trimisana, it’s their food or go hungry.
6. The jeep safari tours from viva were very well done. All the guides we had were very knowledgable and wanted to share that knowledge. Some were more personable than others. Eva and Nico were 2 of the best.
7. Getting into the jeep would be very difficult for anyone with a physical challenge- they are high up although Trimisana has some steps to help. But there is the option of sitting in the cab but this may limit view in some of the jeeps where the cab was closed in.
8. You are not guaranteed the big 5 and you may have one of game drives where you see very little. The animals don’t rock up to the roadside to pose. You do have to look very hard for them but that is part of the experience and makes sightings more worthwhile.
9. If you are a really good and even professional photographer- go do a private game drive!!! We had one guy who had at least an 800mm lens on a DSLR and another DSLR on a tripod gimble stick for video. There is no room in the jeep for that equipment and he kept sticking it in other passengers faces and hit me on the head with it twice. There are only 9 seats in the jeep and when full, it’s a tight fit. You can obviously take all the photos you want and the drivers will take time to stop to let you do that but - ITS NOT FOR PAPARAZZI!! and is scares the animals off. Having great memories in photos is important but there are other passengers sitting next to you. So if photos are your thing- seriously consider a private safari.
10. If you do the optional morning game drive on your last day, it means about a 12 hour day before you get back to JNB on a very bumpy road.
11. If you do have physical challenges, the whole safari is very bumpy even in Kruger itself as most is off road driving.
For us it was the animals who were the stars. Vivasafaris are good at what they do, it’s not luxury and perhaps is a different standard to what may be accepted elsewhere.

Viva Safaris was the first stop on our trip through south africa and it was a very good start!
The transport from Joburg to Tremisana Lodge worked out perfectly, the driver george was on time and such a nice guy!
When we arrived, the staff welcomed us very nicely and we felt at home right away! On our first evening trip we saw some elephants right in front of our lodge which was awesome and the evening dinner outside was lovely!
Next day we went on a bushwalk with halala and shannon. They taught us a lot about wild life and we saw some hippos and crocodiles. The sundowner with halala was equally exciting as we saw a lion and an Elephant family! Also Halala told us some interesting stories from his experiences in the wildlife!
The trip to Kruger was alright, sadly the weather was not too great and there were some hickups with transportation. But all in all we enjoyed that day trip as well.
On the last day we had a morning drive, which I was looking forward to very much, but it felt a bit too rushed for me. We had too little time to look for animals and I was a little disappointed by that experience. However the stop at Blyde River Canyon was breathtaking and the transportation back to Joburg went very smoothly.
All in all I want to highlight the very friendly staff, they were really helpful and the food was just delicious! I would recommend this organization to anyone who wants to experience the wildlife in South Africa!
If I could give one advice that would improve the safari even more, I would have liked to have a little more communication about the itiniery and how to prepare fir the trips. Some of that was given on really short notice, which made it a little hard to plan ahead.
The transport from Joburg to Tremisana Lodge worked out perfectly, the driver george was on time and such a nice guy!
When we arrived, the staff welcomed us very nicely and we felt at home right away! On our first evening trip we saw some elephants right in front of our lodge which was awesome and the evening dinner outside was lovely!
Next day we went on a bushwalk with halala and shannon. They taught us a lot about wild life and we saw some hippos and crocodiles.
