Who ever said 70+ people can do this are lying unless they are super super fit. Expect to climb a lot of stairs. It was a great experience over all. You can definitely see how far your limit is with this hike. Would recommend.

I recommend Feeling Madeira highly. It was easy to book a hike, and the instructions and communication regarding pickup and dropoff were great. Gabriel, our guide, was great. He was good with hikers with vertigo and/or claustrophobia (some of the tunnels are long!), and had a good mix of conversation and hiking.
You don't *need* a guide to walk, the hikes, but having one was great to get the local flavor, some nice conversation, and that extra layer of safety. We did see several people who got lost on the trails...
Finally, having the bus from Funchal to the trailheads is very much worth it. Parking is a pain at the trailhead.
We enoyed it so much we did two hikes with them (Pico Ruivo and 25 Fontes).

As part of the tour of the East organized by Feeling Madeira Tours & Walks, our mini-bus made a long stop at Pico do Arieiro which is the third highest peak on the island.

On the contrary, its 2 neighbors: Pico das Torres and Pico Ruivo are wild places that require trekking experience.

In the heart of the eastern part of Madeira, this exceptional place is very popular.
On the winding road, you may come across a few cows in complete freedom.
The parking lots can accommodate many vehicles.
Crowds are in full swing for sunrises and sunsets.
For this reason, tour operator mini buses avoid these magical moments.

A vast slate gray building in two parts with a solarium balcony welcomes tourists. You can eat there, drink, buy souvenirs and island products.

The views are exceptional, with a sea of clouds hovering above the fantastic rock formations.
When the sky is clear, it is possible to see the southern coast of Madeira, the village of Curral das Freiras and even the island of Porto Santo.

On the way to Pico do Arieiro, you can contemplate a covered stone well (8 meters deep), resembling an igloo, known as “Poço da Neve”.
In fact an icehouse which was built in 1813 by an English family to store and preserve mountain ice, at a time when Madeira did not yet have electricity.
In 2011, a white radome air defense radar was installed atop the peak.
From Pico do Arieiro (1818 m, 3rd summit) which is one of the most visited places on the island thanks to its easy motorized access, trails that lead to Pico das Torres (1851 m, 2nd summit at 12 km return walk, for very experienced hikers) and Pico Ruivo (1862 m, 1st summit, 16 km return walk, also for very experienced hikers) await the sporty and intrepid.

There is no doubt, you will enjoy the excursion to Pico do Arieiro which will then take you back down to Funchal with lovely panoramas at the bend of the road.

Spectacular tour, with a significant deficit on the part of the company organizing the excursion. They offered a guide in Spanish and did not utter a word in that language throughout the entire tour. Disappointing.

Amazing and unforgettable experience. We were complete beginners but with Pedro and Lucas explaining everything and being with us the whole way we felt really comfortable. Highly recommend!

Great guide, very good English, very informative, amazing views. Well worth the money. Very lucky with the weather. Couldn't go to Pico Ariero for safety reasons but it was fine. Instead we went to Porto da Cruz.

Randonnée sublime,
Très dure, beaucoup de dénivelé 1600 mètres positif.
Nous l'avons fait avec 1 enfant de 13 ans
Attention si vous avez des douleurs aux genoux , beaucoup d'escalier à monter et descendre .
Partir tôt le matin piur se garer facilement au parking du pic arieiro.

I would rate this a zero if possible. I booked this tour with my niece and we were never picked up! We called the company after waiting for 30 minutes and they claimed to have sent a cancellation email but couldn’t find it on their end. I got the email the following day. We had to hire a taxi at triple the cost to be able to do the hike since it was going to be raining the following day. I don’t recommend choosing this tour operator.

Randonnée incontournable à Madère.
Départ à 9h et revenu à 15h30.
Nous avons fait la randonnée en 6h30 en faisant des pauses quand on en avait besoin et en mangeant un bout tout en haut + pause pipi au refuge (toilettes payantes 0.50 ctm et pas très propre d’ailleurs et boissons un peu chères !). Possibilité de remplir sa gourde au robinet.
Important pour la randonnée : crème solaire, casquette, eau !
On a trouvé que la randonnée était en « 3 tiers» :
1/3 : ça descend beaucoup (donc il faudra tout remonter après …)
2/3 : plus tranquille on longe les montagnes et on passe dans des tunnels. On n’avait pas de frontales pour info avec le téléphone ça allait.
3/3 : ça monte beaucoup et en plein soleil.
Pour le parking, on s’est garé sur celui en contrebas à 800m car c’était marqué Pico Ruivo alors que celui d’en haut était marqué durée limitée à 1h. Mais on a vu tout le monde se garer un peu n’importe où même sur les lignes jaunes donc on a pas trop compris le principe …

Findet die Tour am Freitag statt? Bzw ist der Berg begehbar?
Geht man vom Ruivo zurück auf den Arieiro oder weiter zum texeira und von dort aus zu den Ausgangspunkten zurück?
Wir möchten unbedingt hoch auf den Berg aber wegen der Wetterlage ist uns das alleine etwas zu heikel.

Hello I’m from England and completed this yesterday with a friend it’s best to negotiate a price with a taxi driver to take you to Pico do Arieiro then finish at Achada do Teixeira and your taxi driver will pick you up about 4-5 hours later from the car park there. Or easier you can book it with a tour guide with a group of other people. If going alone it’s all one way and easily marked out with arrows where to go and is impossible to get lost so no planning needed as we completed it with no worries. If going with a taxi will cost you €100-€120 euros and that’s for taking you there to Pico do Arieiro and to pick you up from Achada do Teixeira. Hope this helps
