As you can see from our previous reviews, we pride ourselves on our customer service and the experiences that our teams provide our customers. We would love if you could provide some more information in regard to your tour experience so that we can ensure the team member who took the tour is given any extra training and feedback they need to provide the experience we expect our customers to receive. We do have a few new staff that are in the midst of training, which with an artisan distillery can take many months. If you could please let us know what date you attended the tour and who took it by emailing erin@oldkemptondistillery.com.au that would be greatly appreciated. We highly respect that visual aids, in terms of tours, are very helpful and we would love to hear what visual part of the tour was missing from your experience. As per the experience offered on our booking site, your tour includes a brief history of the beautiful Dysart House, a visit to the bond store and explanation of whisky storage/maturation (due to safety reasons its not always accessible to go inside but everything can be seen from the main entrance), you are then taken down to the distillery. The distiller's run the stills Monday to Friday from 6.30am - 4.30pm so there is always something going on. We have 3 stills - a wash still, gin still and whisky still. They may not always be operating at the same time but at least one is on a run during tour times as a matter of course. Although we do not currently brew onsite, which many Tasmanian distilleries don't/nor do we make any secret of that fact, we do explain the process and have many diagrams available for that process. As the new distillery building only started operating in November we are in the process of getting brewing equipment installed (which sadly is being held off due to COVID illness with tradies!). Our wash is made to our exact specifications by a Tasmanian brewery and delivered weekly to be turned into whisky and Lavender malt liqueur. We also make Apple liqueur from a local cider maker here as well! As part of the $35 cost you also get a tasting of 4 x Old Kempton products - 15ml of each. You can pick between whiskies, gins and liqueurs so there is something for everyone. This is actually what most of the $35 tour & tasting fee covers, as well as the time taken by a team member for the tour and the tasting - which is guided and each product explained, while also leaving room for questions in case anything was missed. We have noticed your review includes no mention of the guided tastings included in the $35 so we are glad that part of your experience was up to standard. I am glad to hear the staff were very friendly, we are very proud of our team, hence why we would love to improve on this review.
