Lovely place, so peaceful and quiet. I try and visit the lakes every Sunday with my dog and make it a weekly visit.

Beautiful place absolute huge dip halfway round but thankfully my carer managed to sort that blip out ( could not of done it on my own ) but other than that was enjoyable will go back again ( with packed lunch next time ) . Plenty of bench’s to stop and rest too

Not great for social distancing. Way too many people now many of whom insist on walking five a breast or so and won’t give space to others. The joggers are the worst - panting and talking to each other as they run along together and will not move aside for anyone ! Selfish idiots. Don’t they know there’s a pandemic on?? Would avoid at present if you value your health.

Went here yesterday in my ever long quest to find new places to walk my dogs. Let’s just say it is ok if you have a dog that tires easily but if your dog is used to being able to run free don’t bother coming here. They are NOT allowed off lead at all in any area. I can understand why really as one lake is used for fishing and the other is teeming with wildfowl of all sorts. There are lots of gulls ducks and moorhens (coots) and also quite a number of swans, herons, egrets and cormorants. Great for wildlife photographers and also suitable for wheelchair users or pushchairs as there is a nice level gravel path all the way around the lakes. It’s such a shame that the large car park which is open to paid members (mainly fishermen) only doesn’t even concede to offer a couple of free spaces for disabled users. Not very inclusive.
The large modern building seems at the moment (lockdown due to covid) only to serve for the use of ‘rangers’ who are presumably there to make sure nobody is having too much fun. I have no idea of the plans for this structure but selling coffees etc might mean that they can be less stingy with the car park - maybe keeping some spaces for fishermen and allowing a few disabled and paid spaces?
It is a very jobsworth type of place and there are signs every hundred yards or so reminding you of the rules. Strangely though no warning sign that the large puddle/lake forming over at the back seems to be rife with blue/green algae. I’m no expert but I wouldn’t want anyone going in that water.
As for parking - as I said unless you want to pay for an annual pass you are not allowed to use the large car park. I would guess at the moment as the Kings Arms is shut you could use their car park and just walk a few houses along to the nearest path or the same would probably apply to Haskins. During their opening times maybe you could go for a coffee or a beer and leave the car for a while if the car park isn’t busy. I found that just after the turning into the car park there is a small pull in on the side of the main road but that is only big enough for three cars so you’d have to be lucky. I expect also the fun police will put something there as soon as they realise that it’s helpful for visitors.
Overall I would say it’s worth a visit but don’t bother taking dogs and be prepared to walk there from your car. I don’t expect it will ever become a truly inclusive community area but is excellent for fishermen and bird spotters and good level walk. I suppose if you were local and really loved the place it would be worth becoming a ‘member’ in order to use the parking but I wouldn’t imagine most people would want to visit often as it’s rather sterile and rules based.

Amazing place short walk from out flat and so peaceful
I often walk down here and watch the swans and Canadian geese.
Also watch the fishermen catching their fish 🐟
Gravel track all the way Round so perfect to walk on or for wheel chairs/ prawns etc (but there is a style to get over) unless you’re coming from the fishing car park ❤️

It was a very blustery day when we took our dog for a walk around the lakes, but still a lovely walk. The only down side that day, was that there seemed to be an issue with the water. From what I understand it was something to do with Algae. Apparently this has now been sorted, but at the time, my dog was itching to get in for a swim. Obviously we couldn't let her. Maybe next time.

We are elderly couple who cannot walk very far or over styles. Would this be a suitable stroll for us & where is the easiest & nearest place to park please?
